Sony and Factor 5's 2007 PlayStation 3 exclusive Lair was met by more than just a few whines when it debuted, most of which stemmed from the game's control scheme. Fortunately, the devs have come to grips with the criticisms and decided to give the fans what they want.

Spotted in Japan's official PlayStation site is the announcement of an update that will expand Lair's controls to exciting new lengths. The PSN patch will give the game analog control support plus rumble compatibility for use with the DualShock 3 as announced earlier in GDC 2008.

Other additional downloads will also be made available, including one that will enable players to use the Wind Dragon and the Poison Dragon throughout the game. The goodies will hit Japan's PSN on the 17th, and perhaps the rest of the world shortly after.

I think I'm one of the only people in the entire universe (aside from Julian Eggebrecht) who actually enjoyed LAIR, and enjoyed the motion controls. Truth be told, the only issue I ever had with the motion controls was getting the dragon to flip 180 (and even that was rare), but aside from that they are tight.

I think they should have stuck to their guns and kept the game with the motion sensor only. To me, this is an admission of failure.

I'll tell you what LAIR needs. It needs a damn Radar map and better locking system. These are the two things that made the game most frustrating to me. Here you are, in the air, with hundreds of dragons flying around, you lock on to the dragon you're after....then he flies to you left and he's gone from your field of vision...good luck trying to find them again...fixing motion controls aren't going to fix the overall feel of the game if you ask me.

# man, it was about thisplaton 2008-04-10 07:55
They should have done this from the start. This way, the game would have been rated way up and this would have increased the sales.

Anyway, I finished Lair with motion control and it wasn't really hard. Still, having the option to change the control is really usefull for people who are not good with the motion or if you don't like the feeling, and it's great for the everyday players to that loved motion sensing but don't wanna use it nonstop. I mean, I had some fun in motorstorm using the motion, but after 2-3 tracks, I played with the analog. For Lair, I would have used analogs for harder missions.

And the dragon bonuses is really cool. I always wanted to try those! :D. I really hope they are cool and fun to play with. I'll play this game again if the update pops here in america around the same date! :D.

ps: I wonder if people will buy the game now that it's on analog. I mean, the biggest flaw people argued about was the motion controls.

# So what about the PSP functionality???redbrick 2008-04-10 10:58
Can you now play the whole game on the PSP? Or is this feature still a happy accident?

(Sounds like I'd have to update my P$3 to use the patch.... boo.)

It was worth the buy before. Besides the somewhat lame acting, this game is very good with the sixaxis control. It is a challenge though because of all of the interaction. Great fun and experience using the sixaxis controls with this unique badass game.

This game is great! People are quick to judge about what others say about a game that they have played for 15 minutes or so. Anyone who plays this game, I would advise to go through the tutorial mode. The tutorial mode helped me a lot. This game is awesome!
