Konami stock shares suffer after MGS 4 delay announcement |

We know some of you are disappointed right now after Konami announced yesterday that it is pushing back the release date of PlayStation 3 game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The title was originally scheduled to hit retail shelves this winter but the company decided to release it sometime in Q2 2008.Well, as much as you guys are disappointed, know that Konami is not at all feeling comfy and secure at this point as well. According to the latest report from Bloomberg, the Tokyo-based video game developer and publisher suffered shares decline just right after the announcement.
Konami's shares dropped by 6.8% to 3,160 Yen (US$ 27.31) while the benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 0.8%. This is the largest shares drop the company has suffered since 2003. Quite interestingly, some analysts are speculating that the delay was intended to boost the sales for the next fiscal year.
Mitsubishi UFJ analyst Hirotoshi Murakami had this to say, "Investors were active sellers today because of disappointment over the delay. It may be the company's strategy to boost earnings next fiscal year with the game software."

personally, I don't feel the difference between a Q1 and Q2 release date. It's pretty much going to be in May instead of March? Both of those dates are far enough away for it to be a while. And how will this boost sales, exactly? More PS3 owners 2 or 3 months later? That's stupid. Everybody knows that Metal Gear Solid 4 is going to boost sales, probably much more so than a 2 or 3 month period of sales how they are now.
I read the article that stated that MGS in the UK was going to be released on easter 08 bundled with the dualshock 3 controller. http://ps3.qj.net/MGS4-DualShock-3-bundle-planned-for-Easter-release-in-Europe/pg/49/aid/104761 tell me if i'm wrong but dont all of the MGS4 trailers state that it will be a simultaneous worldwide release. I figured that was just the date.
