Konami not impressed with US$100 PS3 price cut, MGS4 for Xbox 360 a possibility? |

While a US$100 price cut for the sleek PlayStation 3 may have practically set the videogame industry (and community) on fire, it seems that some are not convinced that the abrupt move on Sony's part may still not be enough to turn things around. One of those aforementioned parties being Konami, with the opinion coming from an executive of the game publishing company famous for ground-breaking hits such as Metal Gear Solid.
If you haven't heard, Sony recently slashed a hundred greenbacks off the PlayStation 3's price tag to get the market moving, so to speak. Kazumi Kitaue, the unimpressed executive from Konami, is doubtful that the price cut could change things this far into the console war. He mentioned that with US$500, one can already buy a personal computer.
And it's not just doubt. Kazumi Kitaue brings more disconcerting news - specifically, Konami having to look to other consoles to release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on to recoup the development costs spent on the PS3 version of the game. "Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps." Note that he didn't say anything at all about a definite Xbox 360 version, but with the game marketed to be as graphic-intensive as it is, it could very well be.
Certainly a bit of rain in the PlayStation 3's otherwise fair weather day. Nevertheless, things are not set in stone just yet, so let's hold off on jumping to conclusions for now. Updates as we get them.

exactly sony will do well but i disagree with a mgs4 for 360 atkleast anytime soon. Maybe a MGS4 subsistance type version will be multi plat but theres most likely no plans as of yet considering their saying they want to make more money and theres not enough sony consoles etc. A game like this will make so many ps3 sold that they would recoup on their developement cost that their would be no reason to go multi plat.

Who cares if it's on both. Good for them they are making money and can put more money back into MGS5. Exclusives by 3rd parties are about as lame as fanboys themselves. I have an xbox and I don't give a crap about ps3 getting the same games as me and I only bought the system because it's cheaper and has xbox live. wouldn't it take a year or two for them to make this game come out for the Xbox 360? by then MGS4 would have already been out on the PS3 for a while, which is going to boost PS3 sales and make an Xbox 360 release pointless.

A prominent Konami executive is obviously frustrated with the commitment they made with the PS3 and how few consoles are on the market. He seems to think the PS3 isn't a very good value even at $500.
This is going to be a very expensive game to develop, and unless PS3 sales go up by a large margin, Konami will have no choice but to bring it to other consoles. This game definately can't be done on the Wii, so that means it's coming to the 360 like I've been saying all along!
They better not make it for the 360 aswell, this will just drag down the overall quality of the final release because the 360 cannot handle the same capabilities as the PS3 (obviously), as you can see in all the PS3 exclusives, they have turned out great, Ninja Gaiden Sigma for one, so i hope they do not intend to sink low and go to the 360 aswell.

But, fact is, it's expensive to produce games this time around, and if a company doesn't think it can make a profit on one system, it has to go multi-platform.
Really, the only way games are exclusive is if the publisher (Ie. MS or Sony) Pays for a vast amount of the development and distribution of the games....which, with Sony loseing even more money per console now, they will not do....

And no one makes a mention of the fact that a PC for 500 bucks will only play games found on pogo and popcap. Try running wow and coh, two games note for their low system requirements, on one of those 450$ dell computers! Sure it would be great to have MGS4 on all consoles for everyone, but as it is now Kojima is asking for Sony to start pressing single layer 50GB discs for MGS4. I don't care how much you compress software (for one, compression always = loss), switching discs last gen and good riddens! You can only store so many games onto a 120GB HDD, and thats all that MS allows. With a simple adapter, you can hook up ANY 3.5" drive to the PS3!

As people have stated wtf is the problem with it going multiplatform. You REALLY think Ninja Gaiden Sigma looks THAT good? Its been stated that all it is is a port of the xbox version touched up like crazy. Considering the xbox version still looks pretty damn nice I believe it. There are no ps3 exclusives that are out yet that actually put the 360 to shame, or show where the ps3 shines. Its all the fanboys that are making ALL sides look bad. But they will continue. Just about every game thats been out on both systems has also been a bit better on the 360. Ps3 is losing exclusive after exclusive its making it look ridiculous. Why bother buying one? For 3 games? We all know that MGS4 is the largest PS3 games. It is the one most hyped up and the one that everyone wants. Just about every single PS3 owner will buy MGS4! If it came out right now that is about 2-3 million copies sold. With the PS3's great lineup coming this holiday season a whole lot of PS3s will be sold, quite possibly making the console total sales closer to 9-10 million. If Konami does not announce MGS4 to the 360, MGS4 will be the leader of the pack as the greatest game on the PS3 and sale the most copies. It will also be the one that brings about 10 million PS3. So many people either want to get a PS3 for MGS4 or already bought a PS3 for MGS4. Point is, Konami, sticking by the PS3 will make all their money back.
Announcing MGS4 for the 360 would be the stupidest move they could ever do. MGS4 will sale copies and consoles. If it will come to the 360, they should announce it a couple of months after the PS3's version release date. This way, Konami won't be stabbing Sony in the back with a death blow, MGS4 will sale consoles and save the PS3 (how great would it to be that your game saved the PS3), and a whole lot of MGS4 copies will be sold. Then they announce afterwards that MGS4 is coming to the 360 and make even more profit there.

I say, who cares? History showed us, that all these titles were original back then, when they drove system sales. Hardly any sequel. This applies for the original MGS, Tombraider, even Halo or GTA or Mario (Mario could sell the GC). I find this strange, that the press and analysts insist on an existing title to sell a system. Well, understandable, because how do you predict what doesn't exist yet. Convenient, too. But a guarantee ? No.

I highly doubt the release of MGS4 on the 360. MG is my favorite game series of all time and I research it quite a bit. Currently no 360 release is in production. Kojima has stated many times that he has no plans to release it on any other platform. Not to mention this one huge point. This is going to be one of the biggest games for the PS3. It is going to be huge (space-wise) as stated by Kojima. Which means a release on the 360 would have to be on like 4 DVD's. This is one of the main reasons I don't see this happening. So Blu-Ray does mean something. It means that games developed for the PS3 give the developer more space to provide more content for the fans.

They were original in the sense they demoed the HW capabilities. And in that respect they were new games (MG wasn't "solid" before that time). ... and maybe lets extend that... before that time, they were hardly system sellers (however, all the mentioned games have been in the past).
To make it short, I believe to generate a new system seller, something new has to come.

Guess what I was looking forward to playing Alan Wake on my PS3 but now I'll never get that chance because Microsoft is publishing that game. I also wanted to play Tenchu on my PS3 but now I'll never get that chance because Microsoft also published that game. I also want to play Dead Rising and Lost Planet on my PS3. Those are basically the only 4 games that interest me in the 360 but there is no chance in Hell I'll ever buy a 360. So Microsoft buys all these exclusives to keep the little kids happy but when they can't buy a certain game kids like you throw a fit. Here is the main reason I think the PS3 is on the rise. This is what is anticipated for all three consoles:
PS3: Home, MGS4, Lair, Little Big Planet, Warhawk, Killzone 3, God of War 3. Just to name a few.
360: Halo 3, ? , ? , ?
Wii: ?, ?, ?
on 2 accounts. First of all, the original Metal Gears were 'born' on the MSX. Secondly, yes, the Metal Gear *Solid* series was born on the Playstation. Notice how the series started over at 1, and then there was MG2, then 3, and now 4? Although the story may be tied to the original series, the gameplay has seperated it into a class of it's own.
It was confirmed months ago that in order to make MG4 for the 360 the game was going to be scaled down. Besides, Sony is pumping money for this one.

MGS will be coming to the 360. Its been talked about so much that the buzz had to have reached someone high up in MS gaming dept. Its not about brand loyalty, Devil May Cry prooved that. And money talks, Grand Theft Auto prooved that. Mark my words, within a few months from MGS hitting shelves there will be an announcement stating that it is also coming to 360, if not sooner than that. Good point XxICUxX, it wont look as good. The PS3 version will of course have its framerate issues and washed out colors its famous for. Everyone knows that all the multiplat games look better on 360, so you bring up a really great point!

Unfortunately that game didnt have the greatest lip syncing... and that was half of the DVD lol 2 gigs of voice acting which was horribly synced. The rest was the textures and meshes and game code. another 2.5 gigs. It doesnt even require a dual-layer DVD lmao.
I think this is the only game I truly envy on the ps3 that i ain't got on my 360.... I don't even care bout FF cause i think there are a lot more rpgs to be played. please please please please i want mgs4 on 360!!!

Each device outputs different and must be calibrated individually by a profressional with pro gear or else you're probably never going to see what the source material really looks like. Thats the problem with consumers. They assume because they bought it, it looks the way it should and that only better products will create a more realistic image. Not entirely true, ISF calibrated displays will always look more true to the source than a non calibrated TV.
It could also be the difference from Open GL to DirectX which the developers are not acustomed too which may also explain the choppy frame rates. Basically bad coding equals bad games. Look at Battlefield 2142, that game didnt look much better than Battlefield 2YET! it required MUCH better hardware to run. Instead of a 6800 GT you needed a 7900GT etc. Most PC games are in this state, such as the latest splinter cell which was released in a rather buggy state along with the latest Rainbow Six game. Amazing how no one thinks of possible reasons for these things and automatically assumes the worst in hopes of winning the never ending debate of which consoleis better.
Truth be told, 360 has more games, but only a select few AAA titles. go look at www.gamespot.com they only listed 5-6 360 games as being 9+. 360 also has hardware issues including the red ring of death, fan noise and other hardware issues. XBL is a great feature which is well worth the price as long as you dont use wireless which always lags regardless of the console, the service (XBL or Sony) and your internet connection. USE WIRED INTERNET FOR GAMING! PS3 has even fewer AAA titles (again check gamespot because some have claimed them as being biased towards 360 when only 5 or 6 360 games have been rated 9+ in a year which is simply pethetic for all the raving fanboys going on and on about all of those "amazing games" which PS3 doesnt have.) PS3 supports BD which can be a plus or a neagative depending on your take on spending $30 canadian a movie for all of that extra HD goodness, which most people dont care about nor can they experience because of a lack of a decent surround sound system(bose included as being crap!) and an HDTV. Hardware failure rates for PS3 are much lower infact its quite rare for a PS3 to fail other wise we'd have forums full of PS3 owners complaining of failing PS3's like we have in the 360 forums.

Yes it shows that Wii is DESTROYING both PS3 and 360 in sales, and that PS3 is selling at the exact same rate as 360. Once this data becomes updated with the data from the increased sales from the price drop then the PS3 sales are sure to pull ahead of 360. There is no doubt that Sony has something big up their sleve for E3 to announce the price drop BEFORE E3. MS might even drop their prices just to keep one step ahead of the PS3 which would increase the 360's sales as well. All in all, I make no assumptions as to which consoles will win, nor do i truly care because look what happened to Xbox, it sold 15 million consoles and had a couple of great games making the console worth the money. PS2 went on to sell over 100 million consoles... which is amazing, but will PS3 keep up with that we dont know. Will 360 get much more support from the rest of the gamers who have not voiced their opinions here? or on any gaming site for that matter? who knows! I prefer the controller of the PS3 because of the battery pack being internal, the 360 wireless controller battery pack is in the way of my fingers which after an hour of playing really starts to cramp. The "Leaf" dashboard is very clunky looking and childish in a sense. The XMB of PS3 is just a little odd for a console and no choice in background colour is quite annoying. This is just my little yet big PS3/360 rant. As you can see i favour ps3 if you've even still reading :P. 360 has a few little things that annoy me to the point that i just went to the other side lol. I wanted a 360 from the start but its HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE etc etc etc etc hardware failure rate disgusts me. Its not that i believe that 33%. Its that I've seen too many 360's fail yet never heard of multiple PS3's fail so why not? 3. Console exclusive PS3 games come out with another price drop from Sony.
4. People begin to buy more PS3's seeing it as an easy way to get a Blu ray disk player for that new HD TV just like they bought PS2 for that DVD drive.
5. PS3's sell like crazy.

Why does everyone have to nitpick? PS3 & 360 have pretty much the same specs, just different disc formats. I don't see MGS4 getting a PC version, due to the massive amount of content the game disc has to hold. The install would be somewhere at 20GB at the least, and when/if 360 gets it, they'll put it onto a HD-DVD, which would be needed to store the content. And, people moaning about exclusives? Why do you think they're called exclusives? 360 gets some, PS3 gets some, all to try and draw people in, so they'll buy that particular console. Kind of like a venus fly trap, just on an industrial scale. Ok? Good. I'm done..

If sony won't pay for any exclusive games, there isn't enough sold systems to make exclusive games very profitable, and their in house studios keep turning out unfinished crap like motorstorm, the PS3 will never have the good games to make it a sucess.
If sony had the money, they would be paying for exclusive games and content too, but they are losing money on PS3s and the games aren't selling like they hoped either.
It really shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
You still can't buy a single graphics card even today that rivals the 360's, but you can buy two 8800s and that should at least match it, probably even outperform it. You'd probably need two of the 640mb version at least, and that comes to $700-$800

I agree, who cares if its on both. Honestly I think exclusives suck. I see a game that looks good, but its not available on the console I have. Sure, I have the money for the other console too, but I don't feel I should have 3 frickin consoles, a DVD-R, stereo, TV and whatever else in my frickin living room. What about those who cannot afford more than one console? So what happens when there's a platform exclusive - I'm sure I'm not the only one who passes up because they don't have the console required. So the company loses in the end. The only logic in exclusives I can see is for SMALL developers who cannot afford the time to learn and develop for more than one set of APIs. This is unfortunate, but understandable. Konami however does not fit into this category.
Jack Tretton came out saying "I won't bribe companies for exclusives". He was posturing. His intention was to save on costs.
So Konami come out and say "maybe we'll go multi-platform". They were posturing. They want more money.
Unfortunately for Konami this backfires since (despite the 2,800% spike on Amazon) the PS3 starts to sell twice as many units in retailers across the US. Of course, this strategy does not affect the rest of the world.
Then at E3 MGS4 is announced as an exclusive (which we always knew was really the case) and Konami haven't gained anything from the posturing as of yet.

If you really look at E3 this year WE are the clear winners regardless of whether we own one, two or three of the current top consoles. exclusivity is so important to us PS3 fantards (fantards? really? couldn't that go both ways? xbox 360 fantard? good job coming up with something ps3 related) because if you dont own either console, and a good game that you might want to play comes out for both you would obviously buy a 360, since it costs less, which is a big factor for potential console buyers. the more PS3 that sell the more games devs will make for ps3, since there will be a decent consumer base.
