Konami carefully picking studio to do MGS movie; director Paul Thomas Anderson interested - Image 1

In a recent press conference surrounding the summer release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Konami Digital expressed its desire to keep the Metal Gear Solid movie as close to what the gaming fans originally adored about MGS. And to that end, they are carefully considering which movie studio will get to produce the motion picture adaptation.

It's really no wonder why. After a slew of blatant...err...misrepresentations of iconic game franchises, Konami wasn't about to just hand the fruits of its labor to the whims of Hollywood. Aki Saito of Konami who's playing a significant role in the feature film project, said:

Often Hollywood adaptations have the original game creator involved at the beginning, but somewhere along the line they fall out of view. This is why itÂ’s very important for us to carefully pick the studio for this project.

Saito confirmed that Hideo Kojima will not be on the director's chair for the MGS movie. Pressed for input, Saito only managed to say that director Paul Thomas Anderson of "There Will Be Blood" fame was interested. More updates as we get them.

» I think a MGS movie would be awesome.

If it was a CG movie. If it's a live action movie then it will probably end up sucking.

» Hugh Jackman

Would be perfect for the lead role. I wonder who they got in mind. I hope it's not some prissy little bastard like Leonardo DiCaprio or some bull_sh1t like that. Hugh Jackman I think would be great for this role, no one else comes to mind. What do you guys think?

» also heard christian bale was interested

I think mgs has a chance to really break this bad game-based movie thing. it is one of the few games that people buy not just for the game play but the story line. it sounds like konomi is taking it serious and not just trying to make a quick buck.

» He's probably too old, but...

I'd nominate Kurt Russell. I mean, his character 'Snake Pliskin' in Escape from New York is who Solid Snake is based off of.

Too bad Lee Van Cleef (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; the villain in EfNY) is dead, or he'd make a bada55 Revolver Ocelot.

I agree that they'd better not get a 'pretty boy' to play Snake or There Will Be Blood.

» My opinion

In my opinion, one of these three sounds good: Christian Bale, Daniel Day-Lewis or Kurt Russell (I wouldn't peg him as too old - I mean, look at Ford - he's doing Indy 4 at 68).

» I'm voting for Pierce Brosnan

After playing wolverine, Hugh Jackman would be cool in snake!

But I'm voting for Pierce Brosnan, he's a better actor and he looks like a contained beast, not a big muscled guy. Also, Pierce Brosnan's face looks like snake's face. I found that he's looking a lot like snake playing james bond, after he got tortured in the movie with the diamonds that explore the face of a guy (don't remember the name). What do you think?

» Josh Holloway

from Lost... I think he could make a great Snake... he has the looks and the right voice...

» Would Be Good

Yes! A few of my mates have said Josh Holloway from Lost, he has the right look, the sardonic wit... I think he'd be great. Also, PT Anderson as director, man, that guy is a filmmaking genius, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, ALL ace films, if they get him then FINALLY there will be a worthy videogame to movie adaptation. Sign him up. NOW!
