Kojima talks about a "Snake for a new era"

We know that Hideo Kojima and his posse promised us that we've seen the last chapter of Solid Snake's story with the fabulous Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. However, they never said that other Snakes would have their stories terminated with him, making it naive to not expect a new Metal Gear game in the future.

MGS4 producer Ryan Payton was quoted as saying that a new MGS game starring Big Boss is always an option, but in a new interview with Variety, series creator Kojima hinted that a new prequel may not necessarily be their next stealthy project.

After talking about stuff that he read briefly in the interview, Kojima described the process of how they came up with the concept for Old Snake. "I made him this way because of the unique characteristics of the game medium ... he represents the players themselves because of the interactive nature of games," he told Variety.

He then added that new Snake is always an option and he has an idea of how he'll be. He said "if there ever were to be a new Snake (might have a different name), he will be a Snake for a new era."

Kojima did not further explain what he meant, but he could be talking along these lines of thought: the generation that played the original MGS way back in 1998 as teenagers and young adults are all grown up now and are represented by Old Snake. By "new era", Kojima could be hinting at something designed more specifically for today's generation of gamers. In any case, that's just a guess and mine is as good as yours. A game with infinite ammo M16's, no autolocking because it's cheap, no stun grenades because they're unfair, no camera angles that aren't behind you because they're also unfair, and of course no stun knife because it's unfair.

List of Unfair things according to today's gamers:

-AL

-Stunning items

-Machine guns

-blades

-difficulty

-no easy mode

-no infinite ammo

-dying in the game

Lol the new snake might be just be some guy who obsess over Guitar Hero and wastes time trying to get 100% extreme on "Through the Fire and the flames"

.... the next game can have Jack Jr and Sunny, where Sunny would replace Otacon, and Jack Jr would be a mix of a Snake and Raiden character. Meryll could be the next colonel, and maybe her child could play a part in the game.

As for the next character being name something Snake, I would say no.

That's not a bad idea Adamantius. So far I like the character Sunny, plus jack jr. could bring in a new audience for the series. And of course Hideo would have to throw in those little moments that make the classic fans nostalgic too.

your part of Today's Generation I wouldn't make assumptions about what they would like. If you think about it, people in the "older generations" probably thought that OUR generation wouldn't be able to see straight with what we wanted also. I'm positive that if they were to make a new snake (or whatever it'll be called) the character will be pretty damn good. Kojima and the team are smart enough not to make a guitar hero loving Snake lol..

Sorry Adamantius Snake i dont like your idea and im sure your fine with that. Metal Gear is simply a western style game as you could tell. I absolutely love MGS4 but the one thing that really bothered me was Raiden. He looks like a final fantasy animie RPG type of person and i hate that. It also bothered me that he fought with a sword witch is also a big no no in games for me. Your idea would work only if Jack Jr. never grows out his hair and dyes it brown and picks up a socom instead of a ninja sword.

Well the series was produced by a Japanese guy and developed by Japanese people..... so theres gonna be alot of Japanese type stuff.

A ninja is not a ninja if he uses a gun instead of a sword. As I stated Jack Jr could be a mix of Raiden and Snake. Whats wrong with a character who uses a gun for mid to long range combat and a sword for close combat? He could be a Dante rip off. I'm not saying that Jack is gonna swing his sword up knocking enemies up in the air and keeping them there with shots from his gun, that just wouldn't be realistic. Plus, just cuz he's Raiden's kid doesn't necessarily mean he has to grow his hair the same length. Plus I can't see a soldier coloring his hair, his hair color would be the last thing on his mind.

I suggested something similar on gamespot forums. The children in mgs4 would be the main characters in the next game but grown up. I went a bit further though, to say sunny could have been affected by her sheltered childhood without a mother, for better or worse, and jack jr obviously idolises his dad if you remember the cutscene, so its likely he'll become a soldier and learn to use a sword.

The old snake representing the way we interact with games, to me, means we are like old people because we only have limited mobility/dexterity with our cumbersome control pads; you can't do everything you yourself can do in reality. wheras a new era might suggest revolutionary controls, such as virtual reality.

We knew it would not end there for Kojima. A new character - some of you talking about mix of Snake and Raiden which yields Raiden anyways. Since it would be designed for the next generation gamers ( old or new ) you have to add new abilities to the character - OK Ninja is out of the question.

They can add some new gadgets that we can interact with the game like Jack mentioned above or maybe control the character with your mind :) ya never know. There will be something interesting for sure.

I really don't care much for these new characters. Most of these characters should be scrapped so that if you did have a new generation you would have to have an encyclopedia to explain a characters backstory. It would be better to start over fresh with new people who have little to nothing to do with any of the previous characters. The only person I can imagine being in a new Metal Gear game that would have an intresting story is Frank Jaeger a.k.a. Grey Fox. He is probably one of the only other chracters who can play like Snake without having to work the plot around it by having him use virtual reality or drugs or cybernetic armor. Would be nice to see more of this character and know how he earned his codename.

a hiatus with no metal gear for a couple of years (till jack jr is a teen) or kojima will jump into the future (highly doubt this).

remember the game is rooted in reality
