Kojima Productions to lower MGS 4, MGO pricing - Image 1

When Metal Gear Online was first released on the PlayStation 2, the online component came with the retail copy of MGS 3: Subsistence. Fans are really excited about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots especially when it was announced that a MGO starter pack will be bundled with it.

According to Kojima Productions Assistant Producer Ryan Payton, the original plan was to actually release MGO before MGS 4 and that the idea behind the online game was developed around two years ago. Payton added that they originally wanted a unique storyline for MGO that is dependent of the whole Metal Gear franchise.

"The problem was that if we have a new Metal Gear, like Metal Gear Solid, it's going to come out every three years, and we can't have an online going in between that timespan. So it was going to have its own franchise, say, Metal Gear Online 2 coming out in a year-and-a-half or two years from now or something", further explained Payton.

The assistant producer mentioned that there's a real danger consumers will think they are "double-dipping" if they release two separate games for US$ 60. To compensate, it was revealed that Kojima Productions is thinking to change the pricing a bit to make the two games more affordable for players:

We're running into an issue where we feel like Metal Gear can stand alone as two separate products, and honestly, you're not going to pay U$ 120 to get both, we know that for sure. We have to tweak the pricing. That's why we couldn't announce a release date at TGS.

It was also said that the original plan was to release the full copy of Metal Gear Online this Christmas and Metal Gear Solid 4 early next year.

QJ a little slow on the uptake?

I'm confused by QJ why do you guys keep saying its bundled, even though there more than enough info and the fact that you go on to explain in the post why its separate? Its not bundled with MGS its a demo/intro with probably two maps and half the stuff.

Umm

wrong. i guess you never played MGS: Subsistence...the online mode in that version was an open beta with plenty of maps. MGO is really a game on its own, but i hope it doesn't cost anything. :D $60 USD ftw
