Kojima: MGS 4 Trophy and 3D support is great, if only someone does it for him

Ó

mgs4box_2Fans have been all up in Hideo Kojima's face requesting -- nay, demanding -- that he come up with something for the integration of Trophy Support and 3D for Metal Gear Solid 4. Thing is, Kojima would want the same thing as well, just as long as he doesn't have to be the one to do it.

Said Kojima, finally addressing the rabid demands, "I wanted to make a 'Complete Version' with trophy support and 3D, but if I did that I wouldn't be able to work on a new game. I wonder if someone else would make it for me."

I don't see any hands going up right now. In other words, you better give the man space, or else you won't get anything out of him.

I'd go with a new game over trophies any day.

He's already involved with the new Castlevania, but a new IP from him would be great!

perhaps I'm out of touch lately but I haven't seen anyone requesting that. Now trophy support, hell yeah, I've been seeing requests for it since last year.

But adding 3D support would take way too much time to justify for a game that's been out for so long. A trophy patch however, should be quite easy and do able.

I would be afraid of what Kojima would require for trophies in mgs4. Considering he can be silly at times some would foolish stuff like
"make snake barf" or "grab raidens crotch 3 times.". Don't get me wrong I'd still do it though.

God I'm getting sick of Kojima. I'm sorry but the man has no credibility these days. "This one will DEFINITELY be my last MGS" - that one's been going around since MGS2. "A PSP Big Boss game is more accessible than a PS3 version" - I'm paraphrasing but that was basically his answer as to why Peacewalker was on the PSP and not the PS3. Accessible... like as in you can put it in your pocket and take it with you? Cause it sure as hell isn't because there's more PSP owners than PS3 owners.

We've been waiting for trophies for MGS4 since trophy support first came in way back in mid 2008. To say that adding it to MGS4 would be too difficult or time consuming is utter BS. Naughty Dog did it for Uncharted in what, 3 or 4 weeks? Now granted MGS4 is a much bigger game, but still how hard can it possibly be? Plus MGS4 is so far the ONLY MGS game to not get an updated rerelease a few years later. Yes the first one did - Twin Snakes anyone? Hell even MG1 and 2 got rereleases with MGS3! And what's to say he even NEEDS to be involved with adding trophies? All he'd have to do is look over the proposed list of trophies and say "Yeah. Do that."

*Sigh* Anyway, rant over.

I doubt that it is hard. It is just tedious boring work.

He would rather spend 4 weeks (many more for move support) working on his current games or thinking of ideas for new ones...not implementing trophies and a new control scheme into a game that is fine as is.

Naughty dog did the trophy support patch based off the already in game achievements.
Of course it wouldn't take that long. Naughty Dog is also first party.

Well at least we know he's open to it, so maybe down the line he might implement trophy support when he's less busy.

You could make a complete version with a ZOE5 demo.

Just to even things out.

well if nobody wants to, i would gladly like kojima to hire me for just that pourpose. i'm not a game dev but i know my coding and by the way, coding thophies isn't really game coding (like 3D and stuff)so i think i would manage. futhermore it seems that nobody is in a hurry.

so well Ideo, i'm your man!

haha...exactlly.

Maybe since we have jailbreak now, he could release MGS4 as open source and people could have all sorts of fun with it :P

Well, now that we have a open ps3 sdk in the horizon, release the game code as open source and I'm sure there'll be plenty of people able to code trophy support for you. Or else stop making excuses :P

Speaking a bit more realistically, I don't think much people really care about 3d support (hell, for what I tried it gives me headaches), but it's lame not to have trophy support.

As a dev myself I can't imagine adding trophies to be THAT complicated, although I'm not in the game business and obviously I'm not specialized in the PS3 platform coding. But I've seen enough on my 15 years of professional experience on diverse alike matters so no one will convince me otherwise. I believe the trophy API should be simple enough to insert a few lines of code here and there (including adding this or that counter) for implementing each trophy. Takes time, but even if the original code is REALLY messed up, as someone said above, shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 weeks as it took Naughty Dog to relase Uncharted trophy patch. 3D support would obviously be a whole different beast, but as I said, I don't really care about it.

Yeah I know the real motive is that it wouldn't give them any profit (specially) now to do it, so I gave up hoping for it a long time ago. But please don't make excuses Mr. Kojima, we appreciate your work well enough for you to do that.

You might not want to use homebrew trophies Sony could use that as an excuse to ban your psn account and/or whole console.

Everyone wanting 3D support must not realize that wanting 3D drops the resolution from 1080p to 720p. I thought that was one of the most amazing parts of the game. First time I saw Snake smoking in 1080p, I looked at my Shiny black box and new it was worth the $599 I spent on it.

Exactly, I bought the MGS 4 bundle also & so glad that I did, very "worth it".As far as trophies go, here's my 2 cents;"If he(Hideo Kojima) does them, great. If he doesn't, Ohh well, we still have one of "The best games" on the PS3 & the entire planet.

I'm still waiting for a patch update that allows a Full Install of the game. As for trophies, the emblems suffice just fine, for me. Don't care much for 3D.
