Killzone 2: the multiplayer classes |
Ó
There are seven known classes that will appear in the beta: Scout, Rifleman, Engineer, Medic, Assault Trooper, Tactician and Saboteur. You aren't limited only to the skills of your class though. You can take the primary ability of a certain class and match it up with the secondary ability of another class. Both ISA and Helghast factions will have the same class types and abilities.
The greatest asset of the Scout class is probably the camo suit. While it's on, they'll be really hard to spot as only fragments of them are visible, and can be easily mistaken as visual glitches. The camouflage effect can lessen depending on how fast you move, but it's still pretty effective nevertheless. Here's a pic of the suit in action:

Cool, yes? Anyway, the Scout also has the ability to tag all on-screen enemies with a hidden marker, so they can tip off their coordinates to the rest of the team.
On to the other classes. The Rifleman is the default troop type in the game, and starts out with a variety of primary and secondary weapons. Bigger and better weapons can be unlocked as you progress through the ranks.
The Engineer's primary skill is the ability to set up an automated turret, with the secondary skill being the ability to repair damaged ammunition dumps, mounted guns, and turrets. The Medic can revive downed teammates if they're quick enough, and they can also throw health packs so other players can pick 'em up.
The Assault Trooper is the tank, heavy on the armor, and that counts as the first ability (just as the camo suit is the Scout's). His secondary ability is to have a temporary speed boost. He probably has steroids on him or something.
The Tactician can drop coloured smoke grenades, which serves as spawn points for his team. He can also call in air support where a sentry bot flies in and attacks the enemy team. The Saboteur, the final known class, can disguise himself as a random enemy player and is equipped with proximity-activated C4 charges.
