Killzone 2 producer: PlayStation Home part of our multiplayer strategy

The Official Playstation Magazine was so damn lucky to be one of the first to play Killzone 2. Aside from the BBC who were also there in the demo room of the Guerrilla Games labs, OPM was more than ecstatic to be able to tell the world of how their playthrough of the third level went. Sparc from the PS3Forums was able to scan (ok, fine, photograph) some pages from OPM's magazine. Click the thumbs to enlarge the pics. Here's part of the OPM author's impressions:

One of the best things about Killzone 2 is death. Thanks to a mix of ragdoll physics and traditional animation, you really feel like the Helghast are giving it 100% when they die. [...] much of the scenery is destructible. Pull the trigger and the world around you crumbles, shatters and splinters. [...] I follow my AI-controlled comrades into a nearby building complex. Once inside it's the audio that impresses. Guerrilla uses a technique called ambient occlusion. [...] behind concrete walls the noise of battle from outside becomes thick and muffled, while your own shots echo through the corridors.

While the preview of it is all good, an interview with producer Steven Ter Heide and managing director Hermen Hulstwas included towards the end. They talk about a lot of things but what caught our interest was some hint of future plans on multiplayer features. The best part comes at the last page when Heide said "...there's a lot of interesting things we're going to be able to do. But we can't talk about it yet. Home is also very interesting. There's a lot of opportunity there, and it's all part of our multiplayer strategy."

chill out lol, its not that serious (just like you just said you disagree with them) well they disagree with you. And there comparing the games just like a lot of people do when choosing games. so.. iff you dont like it, dont read it bud.. ANYWAYS

Ppl are dumbas5s.. It seems like there trying to hide the fact that the game looks beautiful (visually), there talking about audio (which I guess is really good by how there explaining it) But they dont even touch the visuals at all. But its lookn nice and I cant wait till the demo.

I just would like gamers to focus MORE on the games and consoles themselves more rather than game/console wars.

This topic sums up it up perfectly. If XBots had arrived here earlier and said ***** about KZ2, gamers like yourself would be all over them, saying how they always come here try to spoil positive news about the PS3 and it's games.

And yet, here's a positive topic about a PS3 game and are PS3 gamers discussing the areas discussed in the interview such as death animations, destructible scenary, AI, audio (occlusion), physics, multi-format vs format exclusive development etc. NO, instead gamers here have decided to talk about Halo 3 instead!

Can't you see the problem I have with this happening ALL the time? Few here seem to want a good discussion about games and consoles, they just want to fight all the time, and show this by adding fuel to start a game/console arguement.

Thanks for understanding where I'm coming from na2rul. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't express your opinion, I'm just saying we should express it where it's appropriate.

They never mention the visuals on this game, which are amazing. They talk about everything but the visuals, no one wants to admit that Sony hit the mark with the graphics and that this game will look just as good if not better than the 2005 E3 trailer. The animations are amazing and the lighting too and according to this article the sound will also be on point. now the only thing missing is the hype. Sony needs to promote the hell out of this game, on the internet on TV, and they need to do a major event with MTV or someone, and get the world interested on this game. It has everything it needs to succeed except for the hype. I mean yeah everyone in the Playstation community knows about it but we need people to buy the console just to be able to play this game. Can't wait to get my hands on it. And I just finished Halo 3 and it was great but it wasn't anything special, Gears of War was much better in almost every aspect. It was graphically superior, the NPC's where better, and the gameplay was better. I don't know which has a better multiplayer because my 360's ethernet port is no good, I just shipped it off to MS for repairs (was just waiting to finish H3 before sending it off lol) I think the ambient also pulled you in a lot more in Gears which it seems like Killzone 2 will do as well. Anyhoot that's my 2 cents.

I'm sure before release Sony will advertise this game with high enthusiasm and tout the technology with this game as another proof.

(Never thought I'd say that after your posts from a few weeks back, anyway...).

You're 100% right.

I think the reason is that so many gamers here just can't participate in a straight forward discussion, they only know how to fight, and they like it! So they try to make everything a battle, even when there's no need. Hence turning every topic into game vs game, console vs console, company vs company, developer vs developer etc.

Sad but true. :(

consoles.. Just like i said earlyer, there comparing the two games. I understand about the fanboy 5hit tho. (i hate it too) But no matter how hard you try, you not gonna stop some dumbas5's out there.

To me the game looks way better during gameplay then when your seeing the CGs. Im still surprised everytime I look at the trailer how good its looking.

No-one said you were a fanboy 'Eclipze_', but I do believe 'Knowledge' has a point that gamers should try talking about the facts more instead of looking for fights all the time (and please don't pretend that comparisons between games on different consoles are not fodder for fanboys, because it is, even if those expressing such views are not fanboys themselves).

Anyway, I don't believe 'knowledge' is trying to stop it, but he does have every right to point it out.

Perhaps you should take your own advice Eclipze_, which is "... iff you dont like it, dont read it bud..".

Like I said, no-one 'placed' YOU with the fanboys (although they do say, "If the cap fits..."), so if you don't like it, don't read it. :)

Feel free to respond again, but as mentioned by Knowledge, this is still a distraction from Killzone 2 itself. This topic would have been very different if gamers spoke about the article on KZ2 instead of H3 vs KZ2.

As it is, no-one is talking about the article, and that's what Knowledge is complaining about, and I think he has a valid complaint.

He said gamers like yourself. I repeat, GAMERS like yourself. Not fanboys like yourself. Since when are gamers automatically fanboys? Seems to me you're seeing what you what to see. At most, he's referring to you as a PS3 fan (you are aren't you), not as a fanboy, and therefore you would be all over XBots for saying **** about KZ2 here. Or are you going to tell me that it's fine by you, XBots can say what they like and you wouldn't respond?
