Kevin Butler loves his buttons, throws more jabs at Kinect |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: kevin butler, playstation 3 updates, playstation move
Sony has come up with a lot of quality ads with Kevin Butler, but this has to rank pretty darn high on that list. They've just launched yaybuttons.com, which is basically a site that promotes the PlayStation Move. As you can probably tell from the name, it gives Microsoft's button-less Kinect multiple swift kicks to its imaginary nuts. The VP of Hating Kinect is there too, but only in audio form.

All you gotta do when you get there is click on buttons to bring out some humorous banter on the importance of buttons and why not having them sucks. You can also click on Kevin Butler on the upper right corner to make the VP of Auditory Opinions share some wisdom.
I'm not gonna spoil anything here, so head over there and see for yourself. There are also similar pages on "Is Move Right For My Family?" and "Sensitive Fireman", so check them out via the "Knowledge Buffet" on the upper right corner.

Here comes another flame war.
Butler, did you notice the similarity between Move and Nintendo's controller? Not a rip-off? An upgrade?
They should've improved the design, at least remove the glowing ball.

As I understand it a lot of the 1:1 comes from the sensors inside by comparing both what the camera sees (the ball) against what it feels (your motion).
Granted it does give you some advantage, you can rotate the controller and it can still see the ball most of the time. But I have also read complaints about Sonys method requiring constant recalibration if you move slightly from the position you were in when you started, which sucks as standing stationary aint very "move" now is it?
In many ways the Wii actually has a better system, as IR is not as easily confused by you changing position or changing lighting conditions. Of course until I actually try it for myself, who knows for sure.
I suspect though the big reason Sony chose the camera over IR is because Nintendo have a patent on the sensor bar plus Sony wanted to claim support for long-time camera owners - I mean there isnt much other use for it. I doubt they would deliberately choose to have a silly coloured table tennis ball stuck to the end without a financial reason, as it looks kinda silly.

there's an attachment that you can get that has an analog stick...but youre probably going to say "nunchuck rip off" cause you losers are so predictable.

I think the wiimote is really well designed as a main controller with the ability to be used vertically like a remote control or horizontal like classic game controller.
But PlayStation Move doesn't need to have D-pad as it doesn't need to be used as a classic controller...
Simply because :-
1- If a game require classic/normal controller there is always the DualShock3/Sixaxis to be used. which does have minor motion sensing.
2- The D-pad already incorporated into the "Navigation" controller - a Nunchuck style controller- along with analog stick.
3- The Navigation controller is optional to have since you can use the normal DualShock3/Sixaxis instead in your other hand. Yes it's optional but for me, it's like buying your comfort with the Navi controller.

I like some of what Kinect does but jumping about, only being able to play games face on, almost all games having to be played standing up and it costng almost as much as the Xbox itself leaves me a bit bermused. I can see how move will be used in all types of games from kids to my dad etc just looks so easy to use and tha main thing...it works.
