Ken Kutaragi's PS3 Keynote: 200 Consoles at Venue |
Ó

Here are some of the interesting bits that came straight from Sony Computer Entertainment's president and CEO.
First up, there are over 200 PS3 consoles in the venue, so if you weren't wishing you were at the TGS, you probably are now. According to Ken, this is the largest pre-launch line-up they've ever shown off in public.
Ken then rolls up some trailers. We see Ridge Racer 7 first. Then Virtua Fighter 5, from Sega AM2. Then a preview of Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight.
Ken concluded his "look at these trailers" bit with one of the FF XIII titles. The pre-rendered footage was pretty and all that, as expected from Square-Enix, but what really gets you though is the real time gameplay footage which amazingly doesn't look far removed from the pre-rendered stuff.
Ken then goes on to talk about technical stuff regarding the development of the PS and how the specs have grown astronomically over time. He discusses the difficulties and the nuances of controller hardware and how more is demanded of it. Then he goes on to explain how he believes that the "computer entertainment" industry used to be composed of very separate elements, computers, and entertainment. Now he says we have reached a "combination point."
After that, Ken goes on to discuss networks and connectivity and other vague technical stuff that he wants to integrate into the consoles. Nothing we don't already do in the internet.
During the oddly amicable Q&A portion after his Keynote Speech, Ken actually apologises to software creators who have had to put up with PS3 delays. He says that Sony Computer Entertainment engineers have been working hard to try new things but now they're focusing on making sure that there will be no more delays for the console.
He didn't really say anything specific, but at least he finally apologized, right?
