Kaz "No Worries" Hirai: PS3 Is Right On Time |

After admitting that the PS3 is not in yet in the production stage, Kaz Hirai appears to be still sleeping soundly at night, just two months before the console's launch. In an interview with Dean Takahashi, Hirai says Sony is confident it will have the 2 million units available by November and will ship 2 million more by March 31 of 2007.While industry experts are shaking their heads at Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, he simply said “I’ve been through this three times now. We are tracking to meet our targets. At the end of the day we’ll meet our commitments.”
Hirai also brushed aside any comparisons with the Xbox 360 launching glitches where only 1.5 million units were available by the end of 2005. Unlike MS, Sony outsources less parts than MS, thereby giving Sony “tighter control on manufacturing.” Whether this is false bravado or a giant pair of moxies dangling between Kaz's legs, all will be revealed come the PS3 D-Day. Meanwhile, if Kaz ain't worried, we're not worried.

its a fact you moron, all companies can't look "worried" so why believe a word that comes out of their mouth.

"just two months before the console's launch."

As in most things many of the people making the comments are much more informed that the actual writers. I guess is because they do research and work hard to come out with the truth. responsibility is something bloggers have no sense of.

so I think the wii will sell TOO MUCH ( even more if the rumors who say the wii will cost 170$ are true ) and the ps3 will sell also A LOT because even after a year, most people waited so they can choose. I mean, they sold 200 000 000 PS2 and only 3 000 000 x360 until now, 3m*6 is only 18m, compared to 200m in 6 years... it's lame, anyway, I suppose when the ps3 will come out a lot of people will think fast, and buy the cheaper ( parents wanting to give a gift to their kids will buy the cheaper OR the one will a BD-player, depend on the tv they have lol ) and a LOT of people will have the ps3 ( almost everybody in japan I suppose... ( in japan there is a law so they cannot release a "legendary" game or a new console in the week, because too much people skipped work or school lol ) and the wii will sell without any competition, I mean, it's not really the same. I mean the wii is for distraction and fast fun, and the other two are for hardcore gamers.
So I don't care about the launch number of units, I only hope they do well because I want one lol.

Each one host 20 production lines. 20 * 5 = 100 production lines. Let's also say production line can pop out a PS3 every second or so (production lines allow for multiple people to work on putting separate pieces together at the same time). The initial ones will be slower but once production gets up to speed is about 1 every 5 seconds (much of it is done by machines that put things together extremely fast).
lets say your ultimate usage of factory is 20 hours (many of them work full time with 3 shifts) and each prod line makes about 5 a minute . (5(min) * 60 (hour) * 20 (day)) = 6000 a day per production line. 6000 * 100 prod lines = 600,000 a day. But lets say there are only 50 prod lines operating at 5 a minute on average. 6000 * 50 = 300,000. You would need six days to get 2 million PS3.Well perhaps that's just too optimistic. Lets cut the production line to 10 prod lines. 6000 * 10 = 60,000 a day means you need 33 days for 2 million. Throw in time to QA 1 in every 100 machines (you never test all machines) and you got you self enough time.
Is all about having multiple production lines popping out products. MS relies on other manufacturing companies and it is not a manufacturing company. The only thing that could set the PS3 back is Cell production or other pieces. However, from what we have already heard it seems most of the parts are being delivered as we speak.
Most manufacturing companies wait to the last minute to assemble the the actual product, reason being expense. The earlier you build your product and use factory resources the more money you spend and also if you the more it cost you if you find defects. Sony, being an expert in manufacturing, most definitely knows what they are doing.

"I can't trust any public announcement because they're SUPPOSED to look confident"

P.S. some of you have to learn how companys produce product before commenting on things you know nothing about!

Actually, that was not the problem, there were a number of issues but the main one appears to be the memory chips from Infineon;

Wow...just wow...."
If any company sat there and said, "OH GOD I DON"T KNOW WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO"
stocks would go down.
They have to remain calm and sound confident that they would succeed(same goes for MS and Ninty) they all say they will win and everything will go smooth.
Obviosuly if you have half a brain you would no they everything will NOT go smooth especially with so little being shipped.
Mature? ***** off.
