The instance this writer saw the image above, she couldn't help but go "Weeeeeee!!!" (which "sounds" so ironic). Yep, Kaz Hirai has revealed what the PS3's retail packaging will look like, and jeez, it's so hard to calm down, contain excitement, and write this freaking article! But, writing duties first, so here we are, bringing you these images taken from Gamers' Day.

According to the guys at Kotaku who were there at the event, PS3 units were just all over the place. There were at least six units on display up on the stage, with tons more on the floor set up for journalists and the press. Looking at the images below, you'll see that the PS3 doesn't photograph that well; you can see the finger and hand prints and all that, and some people have issues with the unit's glossy design. What we'd like to get your opinion on though, is the retail packaging for the PS3. Whaddya guys think?

i can't wait to getz this. The package never matters, it's the awesome item on the inside you should care about.

» ugly..

With a capital UG.

from a commercial artists aspect.. it seems like they slapped that thing together in 5 minutes.

but then again sony hasnt quite been very "original"

by BULL3TPR00F - 2006-10-21 10:45
» damn

the ps3 is one sexy device, no matter how many times i see a pic of it. cant wait to get mine.

lol and by the looks of it, it looks liek were gonna be needing some cleaning cloths and Hori protectors to keep our ps3's shiny and debris free lol.

» get rid of....

the white margin on the bottom. It's very ugly. They should've made it all black, and maybe attached a label with the blu-ray drive logo they whine so much about.

But the picture of the ps3 looks hella cool. ;)

» SAD :(

Who cares what the box looks like its what's inside that counts. You guys make it sound as if you where buying the box by itself that some of you guys are saying the box it ugly. The playstation 3 is a beautiful machine and the box is going to be basically rip open and thrown in the garabe once you take out the playstation 3 console out of it.

by AuDioFreaK39 - 2006-10-21 12:19
» Absolutely, beautiful.

Just put it this way...

"Don't judge something by its box."

by DJ Natas - 2006-10-21 12:44
» LOL

They could put it in a garbage bag and I'd still get one, lol.

KILL IT WITH FIRE!

by vega480 - 2006-10-21 13:51
» blu-ray

there is a blu-ray lable on the box, its in the white strip at the bottom, the flash of the camera kinda washed it out, but its there.

by BULL3TPR00F - 2006-10-21 14:05
» @ DJ Natas

» TGS 2006

There were pictures of the pakaging all over the internet before 9-22/24-2006. Kaz has not shown us anything new.

by your stupid T-T - 2006-10-21 17:19
» blu-ray ad there for a reason

its there so parents that aren't tech savvy know that their kids werent lieing about the blu-ray player and so you know it can play blu-ray movies anyway

by senjutsu - 2006-10-21 17:37
» where's the second ?

I mean, this one is great and all, but we know there is two package, what's the differance between them ? nothing? so I can play 499$ and will will give me a 599$ because they can't discern them? ( that would be too cool lol, but impossible :( )

by W. Jones - 2006-10-21 18:03
» Could be better

In my opinion, I think the retail packaging could look a little bit better. And, if the price wasn't so high, I'd definitely buy one.

by bigshynepo - 2006-10-21 18:28
» the box is alright,

Any haterz on the design regarding the glossiness would be hating on it if it wasn't glossy. Haterz are just haterz. Kudos to Sony for building a console that will fit in with home entertainment systems 5 years from now. God x-box is ugly....both of em.

I think half the reason people impulse bought the sony PSP was due to its beautiful design and "apparent" usefulness. The PS3 has the same nice slick and glossy styling cues going for it as well.

I think the people grumbling at the conference about the glossiness were just photographers who couldn't get a good picture of it if they wanted to..... Tons of PS3s on the floor and this was the best picture they could come up with to publish..Hilarious!

» haha!

I'm still not tired of that joke! It always brings a smile to my face. RR + PS rawks, woo!

by hush404 - 2006-10-22 09:14
» elegant

It looks like there's a professional, high end piece of equipment in that box. Very nice design! Exactly what the PS3 needed.

by AHAH - 2006-10-24 10:35
» AHAHHA

Cheap packaging for a garbage console.
