Karakker's final thoughts on leaving Sony |
Ó
After a good year of working as Sony Computer Entertainment America's PR head, Dave Karakker decided to leave his post to join SKYY Spirits as the beverage maker's man. Before anyone frowns at Sony for losing people, Karakker stressed out that his decision has nothing to do the with company.Earlier, he stated that "a global opportunity" near his home was the main reason of leaving. That isn't to say working for Sony is a lesser alternative, because he told Kotaku that the gaming giant "is in an excellent position right now in terms of upward momentum." Karakker went on to talk about his stint at Sony:
I've never worked at a company that has had such a strong line up of games for just one platform and that includes Sega. In terms of rounding the curve or coming over the top of the hill, Sony is right there and it's only going to get better for PlayStation fans. That light is right there at the end of the tunnel and you can almost touch it at this point.
Some four prospects are "super-capable" in taking the PR spot, he said. Karakker admitted that it was a "hugely important role" for Sony, so he had suggestions on what the next person in line should do. First off, he gave importance to open communication with the media, especially the blogs.
As he sees it, there are more methods to reach consumers now than ten years ago. He continued, saying unlike his days with Sega a few years ago, blogs are now important in breaking down the walls between consumers and publishers. Journalists are still important though, he added. "You always have to have some form of editorial or people won't believe you."
For those who are curious, Karakker will be enjoying a few days of relaxation before going back to work on October 1 with God of War II and Heavenly Sword in his hands. Expect to find him fragging you in Warhawk, or in XBL games as he'll be playing on the Elite Aaron Greenberg sent him.

The butthole is finally leaving, good riddance. He needed to step it up or else the ps3 was doomed. At least we might have a better person now. (I hope).
i don't know this guy but leaving sony for some beverage company shows how "clever" is he.
no idea what this is about andhavnt read the article, but while i waws scrolling down i saw the pic and it made me lol
"I've never worked at a company that has had such a strong line up of games for just one platform and that includes Sega. I wish Sega was still in the console business because they cared about delivering games more than a stupid unwanted media format. The PS3's game linup is a joke. If the PS1 lauched with this pathetic game selection, the Saturn would have kicked it's arse, and Playstation would have failed back then. I don't see that changing any time soon. Why the hell did I get a PS3?
Unwanted format is selling 2:1 and owning HD-DVD everywhere but U.S, the 2:1 is for the U.S. Yeah they cared so much about gamers they wouldn't have gotten bankrupt and now longer able to make systems. PS3 is coming back strong you will see. The 360 didn't have a great line-up either.
He's not a butthole, He is a great man, he did some good. Not as much as Peter Moore who was important and a huge loss to MS.
Yes, i realize that the ps3 is coming back stronger, but with him on the chair, i doubt the ps3 would stand. I dont expect anything to skyrocket, but a nice little boost would help, right?
As if you know what would happen if he stayed, then let me say this Peter Moore if stayed would actually make the 360 selling stronger now, but guess what he's gone and 360 will start to decline. He has done some good for sony, maybe not as great and important as Peter but it seems MS has gotten the worse of it. I do expect some sky-rocket sales.
