Karakker: "all PS3 units in stores sold out"

Uh-oh.Remember Brian Crecente's now-infamous photo of a stack of unsold PS3s at a store? Well it seems that the mainstream media has picked up on it and has even been featured on ABC News. Now, it was featured, not because it's a photo of a stack of unsold PS3s, but because it runs contrary to Dave Karraker's fresh statement where he claims that "Everything that we put on store shelves sold out."

*Looks at photo* Right.

In any case, ABC isn't about to go and bash Sony's new baby. They do however, bring to light the question of the console's actual numbers and availability, and if perhaps announcements of the PS3's limited numbers may actually be nothing more than a tactic to stir up a frenzy. They are quick to point out though that "Rumors and speculation surround every console launch", as quoted from Michael Gartenberg of Jupiter Research.

ABC notes, though, that the battle between consoles isn't over yet and that the real test will be during the Holiday season of 2007, as by then, companies would have already produced more of their hardware and released more promising software.

walmart had 2

my local walmart had a 60 and 20gig version on the shelf yesterday. i should of snapped a shot with my phone... ps3s on ebay are going for so close to retail it's not worth it for scalpers anymore, and only a fraction of consumers can afford it. smaller market = more units on shelves. i know i could see myself trying to get a $600 system for my kid to make it an excellent xmas, but after that i wouldn't shell out that much for anything short of a birthday.

Yeah...

Because Sony never lies until they are busted and then promptly apologize....never... hehe

They are multiplying

I saw a 60gb in a local wal-mart earlier this week. Well, today I was back in the store and the lone 60gb has found a mate and they have had a kid. Yes, there is now 3 PS3's in the store. The PS3 kiosk was turned off and nobody (except me) even stopped to look at the PS3. I also noticed that there was about 10 360s in the store earlier this week. Today there was 3. Kids were still however sobbing in front of the Wii display hoping that one would appear.

You mean..

You mean the kids are sobbing they got a Wii instead of a PS3

Same here

I was in Circuit City this past week buying a HD DVD movie for my Xbox 360 HD DVD player, and the CC associate said they had plenty of PS3s for sale in the back. Of course, I just laughed and said aint no way in hell I'm forking over 600 bucks for a PeeS3 with its Boo-ray player!!!

.

sears at greenbrier mall in chesapeake virginia has 1 ps3 in stock as of 1/6/06 i work in stock, ive seen it all day noone thinks we have em, but he have 1

No real surprises here

Most people i know who bought a PS2 early on bought them at the first price drop, so for a console that costs even more not to be selling that much isnt surprising. Personally I believe there will be a MUCH bigger demand for PS3 once titles such as MGS 4 FF13 etc become availible and then demand will go up again. hopefully:P

Another one....

You should change "*Looks at photo* Right." into "*Looks at photo of just shipped PS3s* Right." Seriously, online sellouts are enough proof that the whole fad is pure BS. Futureshop sold 1000 online in les than 3 hours, Bestbuy sold everything in a matter of minutes. SONY is constantly shipping new units to stores, the product is available, I don't understand how that's a bad thing. Oh yeah, it is bad when you're a flaming fanboy or ps3qjnet or other BS website. I can post pic of piles of X360s or Wiis, it's not hard to take a picture of newly provided systems.

ignore them

just ignore them, who the f*ck cares about these "news", these articles are just to keep entertained those fanboys (and those writers), what i care its just to wait for the ps3 to officialy be releasaed here in mexico to buy it , so i will enjoy those good games.
by - 2007-01-07 02:25:41
wow

Was in best buy today and no ps3's or Wii's. There was a crowd of people around motorstorm for a few minutes. No one ever watches the Wii demo. Probably because its a lame demo but whatever.

PS3s on shelf

I was in target the other day and they had four and then I at walmart yesterday and they had two. The guy at Target said they just came in and no one had looked yet, so that's kinda understandable, but the Walmart guy said they had been there since the day before and they the PS3 ,"Just aren't selling."
by - 2007-01-07 07:04:42
the screen on the right

says Play Station 2 above it,... wierd
by - 2007-01-07 08:57:38
er

was at 2 walmarts last night. each had over 5 of each version. dont think it's to hard to get one anymore.
by - 2007-01-07 09:25:37
yeah, sure.

Yes, I'm sure you went out of your way to go to 2 walmarts to check and see how many PS3's they had, and everyone else just had the super bright idea to go check their local store's inventory. People, get a life. How do you know they didn't come in the same day? Honestly, and QJ, stop being so damn biased against the PS3, I swear...
by - 2007-01-07 10:57:50
Probably

QJ is running out of bloggers, and are pushing 360 bloggers here!
by ContrAss - 2007-01-07 11:22:44
well

I was at Walmart and they didn't have any here. However i was surprised as hell when I found out they sold out of DS's. Funny story though, i went to EB and was about to head out when a kid jumped in the store and told his grandma to check out the Wii. hahaha, classic. I can't wait till nintendo becomes the winner and there will be nothing but granny games and teeny bop puzzlers. hahahaha...oh wait...it's already like that...
by - 2007-01-07 13:28:25
Those boxes aren't empty boxes....

probably empties for display.
by - 2007-01-07 16:58:57
yeah

i saw at a target near me a 60gig in the glass case ready to be bought.it was funny cause next to it had a sign that said they were sold out.
by - 2007-01-08 02:16:18
yes, it does

They're playing a 360 and a PS2 instead of getting one of those supposedly "massivley popular" PS3's behind them. Oh, the irony.
by - 2007-01-08 13:12:06
understandable

I picked up a 60 gig this weekend at Toyrus. They had 2 in stock. Target had 6 60s yesterday. However, this has nothing to do with demand. Who the hell has $600 laying around the week after the holidays (besides me)?
by - 2007-01-08 18:51:52
they are multiplying...

there are now 6 at my local walmart...
by - 2007-01-08 19:32:03
um

quite a few people actually... i could purchase one, but i feel the value isn't there yet.
by - 2007-01-08 22:28:50
multiplying at my walmart as well

there were three in the case at my local wal-mart, and a buddy of mine there told me there were 10 more in the back. He said that they just weren't selling. Course it could be 'cause I live in a town of 10,000. But nobody wants to pay that much for a system around here. Nobody's buying the hype here.
