It has been almost a month since we saw the leaked pictures of the PS3 Slim and the gaming scene has been waiting for an announcement (or an announcement for another announcement) from Sony to finally quash
confirm the rumor.What we have today isn't an official "Yes, it's all true" confirmation, but in John Koller's interview with Ars Technica, the rumors are as good as confirmed.
When you're the hardware marketing manager for Sony, having your hushed-up projects spread into the internet months before you plan on revealing its existence is such a big blow to your entire strategy. For one, the E3 unveiling of the season's worst-kept secret, the PSP Go, came more as a confirmation than an unveiling of new hardware.
"If [the coverage] focuses more on leaks or what may or may not happen then yes, there is a certain amount of frustration," he admits. "I'd love to live in a world with fewer leaks and more meat," he added, talking about the Sony's long-term goals.
Notice the choice of words: leaks not rumors. So this is about as close as we can get prior to an actual confirmation. And using his words, with the accuracy of the PSP Go rumors, the leaks might as well be meat. Or Tofu.
As soon as the PS3 Slim was brought up, the interview went from friendly and casual to awkward. as Ben Kuchera of Ars Technica wrote:
It was fascinating to watch his body language when I brought up the PS3 Slim, we were having a friendly conversation, and when we started talking about that piece of hardware his face closed, he leaned away from me... it became almost adversarial until we got onto a subject that's not as loaded.
Not surprising, but the new info does add weight to the rumor, which John Koller apparently shoulders with frustration.

Seems real now. I don't know and hope the final design changes, but if a guy with that much authority calls it a leak, it has to be real in some form.
No kidding. I take this as a confirmation essentially. I would love to see BC make a comeback(that would get a lot of people to upgrade), but I doubt that would happen. Also, it would depreciate the value of my 60GB. :)
I sure hope thats not a real picture of the slim PS3 because that thing is FUGLY! I love the way my PS3 looks right now. Like a lean mean grilling machine!!!!

This one looks subtile, like a little black ninja that can sit under the tv running games. hardly noticable.
I mean really, how often does any spend looking at their consoles? something that doesnt stand out is good.

That pic just shows the top part of the supposed slim unit, and even then the look can possibly change. Your opinion doesn't affect my hope that it changes at all. I wouldn't buy one anyone unless my current system broke down.

Those pictures were the real thing and by the way Naroon, I love how you follow me. If you researched more about the 45nm cells and RSX chip set, you would have realized everything is going according to my plans.

Actually that PS3 price cut is to take 100 dollars off fat PS3s, and then after Game com in August 2009, every place will be stocked with PS3 Slims and at Games Com or whatever that game E3 clone in Leizpig Germany in August, Sony will announce the PS3 Slim there at the German show in August.
Around the same time the price cut comes, you will see the PS3 Slim. Oh by the way that Analyst isnt joking about taking 100 dollars off, its happening in august, then the PS3 Slim will come out for either 350-400 and original PS3's will be 300.

Of course there will be a PS3 Slim, and of course the PS3 will get a price cut eventually, the question is when.

as for the slim ps3, i dunno if i like or dislike it. id like the price cut, then more of my friends would be willing to get one.
how far into the ps1 and ps2 lifecycles did they get the slims? if this ps3 slim comes out in august, it seems a bit soon for me. but maybe they are pushing it sooner due to low sales? i dunno

That's weird. Sony not denying something? Sony not lieing? I'm confused... So confused that I now wonder if this means it's fake... I mean, when Sony's playbook says deny it, pretend it doesn't exist, call the people claiming it liars... It makes you wonder if for once, they might be telling the truth?

Also, you got some people in your company that you can't trust that leaked out those photos of the slim and PSP go.
i hate the design. slim PS1 and PS2 had overheating issues, i wish this one doesn't add to the list.

Do people still think its fake? Seriously, look at the pattern for Sony consoles, if thats not enough take a look at all the coverage of the info pertaining to the supposed leaked pictures (and Endgadget getting that Cease and Desist order). All this does is bolster the rumors. Sony is very discreet, almost as much as Nintendo, when they want to keep things a secret they have all their PR guys understand that it could mean their jobs if they even so much as hint at anything currently top secret. Thats why he got so rigid.
Even if you think its ugly, the fact is, everyone wants a PS3 since everyone already has a PS2, the only thing stopping those people is price. No mater the look, a slim PS3 would sell very well. And just remember, Playstation -> PSOne, PS -> PS2 Slim, PSP -> PSPGo, PS3 -> Obviously
