Jeff Morris talks UT3 |
Ó
UT fans all around the world are clamoring: "When is it coming out?" It's probably gotten loud enough to get Epic tone-deaf. So now Jeff Morris, Epic Games' lead producer, bravely takes center-stage to answer a few questions from Billy Berghammer from Game Informer. As said before in Midway's Gamer's Day in sin city Vegas, the name change of Unreal Tournament 3 was based solely because the game will represent the third generation technology of the Unreal 3 engine. Although some speculation revolved around the name-change were mainly focused on the release date, the game is still expected to come out by 2007, although that's just a hope.
The PC and Xbox 360 versions are probably first to ship, although the PS3 may also see a release date close enough to the first releases. UT3 may also sport Xbox 360, PS3 and PC interconnectivity for online play, but they will wait and see how other games doing this will turn out first.
The game, thankfully, will not be a Vista exclusive. Though Vista support will be included, the game will not leave XP users behind. There is no confirmation for open DX10 support, nor exclusive DX10 support. Like the first Unreal Tournament, the bot personalities will return (can you say Tamerlane?) although UT3 will integrate the personalities with a very emotion-driven, engaging story line of actual Unreal Tournament competition for the single player campaign.
Maps will also evolve over time in the campaign, once the Necris open their big box of surprises. New gameplay modes will also be featured, the biggest one being Warfare. This combination of Assault and Conquest modes will spell the rolling in of huge, epic maps and lots of new vehicles.
Speaking of new vehicles, there are not only different types of vehicles, but there are also two varieties of each type: one for each side. The Axons will have their own assortment of vehicles, while the Necris will have their own, too. Each one has their advantages and disadvantages, but mostly their based on providing variety in gameplay. The hoverboard is also a new addition to the game, allowing massive maps to be traversed from end to end in a jiffy. It also allows players to tag along vehicles that are being rushed to battle without tiring out from chasing them on foot.
Epic Games is just a couple of months away from releasing a final release version. They are at the stages of polishing everything out. They will release a demo for the PC just to get pre-release feedback. When everything is good to go, the release will just be around the corner.

I heard that the console versions will actually support user mods beleive it or not. And MS is working with Epic to make it happen on the 360.
Supposedly in development first for the PS3, yet it will be released first on the 360.....guess it really is easier to develop for the 360 afterall...
What the hell Ps3 gets shafted again.. Seriously
I think this game would be great if it was indeed able to multiplatform its multiplayer capability. I think that being able to play with pc,ps3, and xbox 360 users combined would be trully a great experience but I do believe that if they do go down this road there should be ways to tell which system each user is playing it on just incase some how pc users have advantage over say ps3 users with mods or cheating. So when creating a game someone can select Ps3 Users only, Xbox360 users and Ps3 users only, etc.
Hehehe.
So I guess it's the PS3 and not the 360 version causing them problems afterall Vietone? :D. So much for all your fanboy talk about this game before it was announced for the 360.
And so much those saying XBox Live will make it impossible for cross platform gaming. That's another arguement thrown back in fanboy's faces.
this is a ps3 game, the pc version is going to be ported to the 360, mark rein said they want to show off their power on ps3,their not having trouble with the ps3, only reason its coming to 360 is because midway!!! this game is going to be the ps3's gear's of war!!! its a port to 360.
this is a PC game all the way, the one thats is the port is the Ps3 version, UT was never intended for OpenGl, so the Ps3 Version basically uses an inferior ported OpenGl codepath, while the Pc and the 360 version will stay true to the superior DirectX codepath, how hard epic might try, this game will look inferior on the ps3, simply cause OpenGl can not match Directx.
Actually it's a PC game first and foremost .
They want to sell Unreal Engine 3 to PS3 publishers that's why they said "they want to show off their power on ps3". They have already shown it's power on the 360 with Gears of War. They are trying to market Unreal Engine 3 as the most powerful cross platform engine, so I'm expecting all versions will be high quality. It's coming to the 360 because the 360 is a good platform, end of story.
It's no secret the PS3 is currently harder to develop for, so a delay is possible if any complications compromise the launch date. It's the worst case scenario. As stated in the article their main goal is to ensure all versions are released for the holiday $ea$on.
known that PS3 is harder to develop for, thats no news. I dont even mind if PS3 UT3 ships after PC and x360 versions simply because if they want to use the PS3 power a proper coding is needed and no a barely port from PC codebase. Surely EPIC have a good amount of experience with PS3 gear because they already are shipping Unreal III engine to others developers, so I expect to see, at least, the same graphic quality that in PC version.
You don't know what you're talking about, friend. OpenGL is no less capable than DirectX, it's just different. Whatever real disadvantages the PS3 might have versus the XBox 360 (or vice-versa) are not due to the API set.
I would love to pwn PC users....and as long as you can set your server to allow 360, ps3, pc, or all users, then it's cool.
People say that PC users will have the advantage, but I disagree.....I've played FPS's on PC for over a Decade, and on consoles since goldeneye...I think both have their advantages and would make for good conflicts.....
Obviously PC users would have the advantage with accuracy and tracking targets, but console users would have the advantage of mobility and movement....and in UT, with how much you can jump around and jump of walls and *****, I think I could out perform a PC user, as long as there was a VERY high sensitivy on the Console...
Not really...Unreal III engine is like a huge toolbox...and what developers do with those tools is up to them. Epic has not developed a game on PS3 before this, so it is actually their first time with the system, whereas they already have a game under their belt on 360 with GoW....so they will take what they learned there, apply it, then develop on it further, hopefully.....
