Java Homebrew launched from XMB; PS3 homebrew coming soon? |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Exploit, XMB

Say what?!? Yes, it's an honest to goodness breakthrough, and we can just imagine all the wonderful possible exploit that could come out of this hack. But first, before we drown in our own drool, details on this hack.
silenoz apparently used the game with BD-J functionality. If in case you're as much of a noob as I am on this, BD-J basically allows bonus content on your Blur-ray disc titles. In other words, it gives that little extra to your copy to totally pawn the standard DVD by allowing you network access, picture-in-picture and access to local storage.
Okay, so here's the tutorial for you to launch the game, homebrew style:
- Un-Zip file
- Copy it to the root of a USB/Flash drive
- Go to the device in the video menu and launch "AVCHD"
- Go to BONUS and click GAME to launch Blaster Bunny.

Oh, and the Java game itself comes straight from Sun's HDCookBook website...

Do you ever talk about anything but ads?
BTW, the files come from here:

While it's good that someone figured this out, sooner or later, I think Sony will be using signatures for the BDJ contents.
Even though that's a possibility, the worse case is if Sony decided to flick around PlayStation 3's JVM. So unless there's actually a way to get an unsigned code to run on the actual PlayStation 3 OS, we're quite far from getting the homebrew. Yes, this is small milestone in getting there but let's just hope and see.
This exploit would be somehow similar to the UT3 "Hello, World!" done a few months back. It does run user created code through a virtual machine but not directly on the native machine -Just to clarify things out.

There may some exploits that can be found when executing Java code so it's still possible to lead on to something big. But the countermeasures are foreseeable so, surely, sooner or later, Sony will (like always) attempt to stop this if it gets to something we want that they don't.

Because every damn time it comes out, it's something LAME from PS3HAX.
Team ICE was a bunch of fakers who released apps from the Sony SDK as their own work.
PS3Hax is saying someone from their site helped make this, even though it's a sample from the official Sun Blu-Ray Java devkit.
Why don't you go make some more YouTube videos where you b*tch and moan about QJ's ads? F*cking mongoloid.

Also what it the bonus1 thing in there, it askes for a code you type in a few then it tells you the code is BLURAY you type that in and get some flasing image which just goes off. Is it just basically saying the thing was made possible by blu-ray which we knew already?

if their was no real risk of an exploit, sony may have actually allowed us to use it, as theyre always bragging about considering homebrew, yet do nothing
anyway something like xbox homebrew, should be set up,
having to subscribe etc, i guess its something......
anyway, WHY DO PEOPLE CONSTANTLY RELEASE THIS NEWS, IF THERES A POSSIBILITY OF AN EXPLOIT KEEP IT SECRET, GET A GOOD WIDE TEAM UP, WHO COULD GET ENOUGH PROGRAMMING DONE, TO PREVENT SONY PATCHING THE PS3 AGAIN, OR BANNING YA FROM PSN
just keep low, and work on it, this way it might remain a secret until something substantial can form

the VM obviously wont have access to flash as it wouldnt need too
its just like what extra2000 said, it allows for an exploit
theres a big difference between an exploit and homebrew/loader/flasher
the exploit will let ya run some C code, which will have better functionality, it just needs to bypass checks and using java this may be possible
an exploit allows for code to be injected, think of the twilight hack it crashes zelda and then zelda loads the code from the memstick
the game is crashed by a savedgame, with a edited horsename, do you think the data contained withing the savedgame is able to execute code, no it just allows the opportunity for unsigned code to be run
the twilight hack is similar to the gta hack

Every time Freeplay complains he's right. Don't try argue with him, seriously -_-"
dont start licking the guys whole
this aint a stab at freeplay, im just saying its good to argu, otherwise things may never get done. people can be wrong, you just dont bow to them everytime
2.im behind freeplay, Justingraziano STFU
2.Justingraziano, im actually confused as to whom you are, by reading freeplays post i think you were responsible for a hack ???
but then i read this retarded statement
"it's not supposed to be launchable by the PS3 thus it is a hack or exploit of some sort. If people would stop hating on every single hack or exploit that the PS3 gets there would probably have already been custom firmware on the PS3!"
and i simply think to my self, are retarded you truely are...
"it's not supposed to be launchable by the PS3"
funny enough it is
your trying to get through the fact that its a potential exploit not a program, reword correctly
and thanks for thi
".........custom firmware on the PS3!"
it made me laugh

This is just a Blu-ray menu playing through.
Like your DVD menu on any DVD you've ever bought.
It's just a piece of Java, nothing native and nothing remotely interesting!!
Also YouTube makes me fuckin laugh

@F.I.G: Believe me he isn't gay. Gay people have common sence, something this moron doesn't know the meaning to. In fact the only thing he knows how to do is complain about people at least ATTEMPTING to hack the PS3. Everytime someone makes progress this friggin (most likely employed by Sony) idiot complains that there hack or find is useless. He did the same exact thing with Team ICE which is most likely why they left. Sure, there stuff was simple BUT it allowed unsigned code to run on a PS3, something FreePlay could NOT figure out how to do and never did.
