Japenese retailer Tsutaya has one pre-order offer that you'd want your local Gamestop to have. While some publishers roll out demos for their games so you could take them for a test-drive before making the actual purchase, this Japanese retailer takes a similar concept and takes it a notch up. Read on and find out how.

Starting today, September 30th, Tsutaya will be taking pre-orders for Final Fantasy XIII at ¥7,980 (about US$ 89). If you take them up on that offer, you will be entitled to a ¥7,500 money-back stub.

Now, Final Fantasy XIII arrives in Japan on December 17th for the PlayStation 3, while the money-back stub is valid until the 24th. Those who pre-order will get to own the game for a good full week, then if they decide not to keep it, they can get most of their money back, losing only ¥ 480, which is just about US$ 5. In effect, you'd renting the game for a week for five bucks.

Even if the copies will go to the used games shelf, they would likely still be in very good shape. Players wanting to beat the game in seven days wouldn't be messing around with other games in that time, so the disc would stay safely nestled in the drive.

» Interesting, yet ultimately...

not something most stores would do. Now, if all stores did that, I would actually pre-order every once in a while instead of always waiting for price drops and LOTS of reviews.

I've gotten burned by hyped games a few too many times. Especially when there isn't a demo. I always wait now for the price to come down.

well that couldn't happen in the western world, seeing as its coming out on the 360, would be too risky with its disk scratching abilities haha.

this is stupid.. of course everyone wants to own this awesome game.. youre dumb if you think you can beat it in just 7 days and youre the most stupid person if you wont add this to your games collection..

» Not really renting

You still need to pay for the full price of the game up front. People do this all the time with used game, except they return it for full price. It's cool that they're doing it with a sealed game though.

don't say that too loud. I'm sure there are freaks who can beat the game on 7 days.
