resistanceWith the Japanese launch of the PS3 nearing ground zero, Sony has announced the price for the much-awaited launch titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Genji: Days of the Blade. According to Sony, both games will be on sale for ¥ 5980 (US$ 50). They've also confirmed that Motorstorm, set for release on December 7, will also be sold at the same price. This announcement puts an end to speculations that Sony just might give in to the temptation of tagging the games almost at US$ 60.

Meanwhile, Sega also revealed that Sega Golf Club, a launch title, will be available for ¥ 7140 (US$ 60), as well as Sonic the Hedgehog, which is set to be out on December 21.

Well, it certainly looks as if there's no stopping the PS3 from finally going out of its box and into gamers' hands. So rack up those piggy banks and start shelling out cash for these awesome games.

LOL Sega

That price tag for a game that is really really fugly? Look at Sega Golf Club, that one is absolutely 100% PS2 in HD resolution, and not even the best PS2 could do.

Nice for Sony peeps

Well that's good news for Sony fans. A good idea, too; love or hate Sony, the response to the price of the console wasn't great. I'm interested to see how other 3rd parties price their games, particularly Square-Enix and Konami.

it's not like this is anything new

Sony was the first (and only) of the 3 companies to price it's first party PS2 games at $39.99. and considering the quality of those titles (God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, etc), that's nothing to balk at. basically, $60 is the new price point for games this generation(i love how people forgot that the 360 started pricing titles that way, but an over $50 price point has been around since Chrono Trigger sold on the SNES for $64.99. though some people either are too young to remember, or dismiss this because Nintendo can do no wrong), but Sony is doing the same thing they did for the PS2; releasing their first party titles (Resistance, Motorstorm, Genji), for the "discount" price of $50. Microsoft followed in Sony's shoes by saying they're releasing their first party titles for $50, and acting as if no one ever thought to do this for the consumer, even though Sony's been doing it for about 5 years now(a year after the PS2 launched was when they implemented the $40 pricing structure).

@4: what?

Err...Nintendo didn't make Chrono Trigger; that was Square. I'm not even sure the SNES is relevant - prices for Wii and Xbox 360 games are relevant. I didn't know Chrono Trigger sold for that much; that makes me even more interested to see what their prices will be (again, I don't think SNES prices are relevant; it's just curiosity).

no *****

i know Nintendo didn't make Chrono Trigger. being as it's my favorite game of all time, i'd know which company made it. the point is that $60 game prices are not new, and didn't originate from Sony, which is what a lot of people across the net seem to want to imply. Nintendo made games like Ocarina of Time were sold for more than $60 back in the N64's day, but that seems to be wholy ignored across the internet. the only reason the higher prices of those SNES and N64 games is relevent, is because posters across the net seem to want to throw blame at Microsoft or Sony for raising game prices, but they weren't the first, and only ones to do so. 3rd party or not. also, Chrono Trigger wasn't the only game back then that sold for $64.99. i just can't remember anymore. i actually think another Square title (FFIII i think), sold for the same price.
