Japan getting PS3 DVR kit |

Sony is readying a new PS3 accessory that will let owners turn the console into a digital video recorder. The kit, called "Torne", is set to become available in Japan this March.
Torne comes with a digital tuner that plugs into the PS3 via USB and the software required for viewing, browsing and recording programs. The latter comes on a Blu-ray disc and can be installed onto the PS3's hard drive.
Users can choose to record programs onto the PS3's hard drive or to an external hard drive attached via USB. Recordings can be done even when the console is in standby mode or when you're using the XMB's other features. Yes, you can record while you play a game too.
A PSP (or a PSP Go) can be used to control the PS3 via Remote Play, but you'll have to plug it into the PS3's USB port if you want to transfer any of the stuff you recorded. Copying videos will automatically convert them to the PSP's native resolution.
Sony has priced the Torne kit at JP¥ 9,980 (US$ 110). Apart from the standalone kit, they'll also be bundling it with a 250 gigabyte PS3. This "Chi-Digi Recorder Pack" will sell for ¥ 42,800 (US$ 469).

But if you are referring to the input from analogue devices, I guess yeah that is NTSC.

sure, but the software will probably be all in some form of Japanese.
And people mocked me when I put a 320GB HDD in my PS3 the day I bought it. 1TB here I come.

The answer to your question is no. 640GB is the largest capacity 2.5" SATA HDD that will currently fit in a PS3.

A regular DVR will record everthing your cable box/antenna/satellite receiver spits out.
I think there are some Tivos that get around this, though.

There are some Tivos that work with subscription services that will ;let you just use your cable line, I believe. But most you have to plug the box into the DVR and then that to the TV.
