Jack Thompson preparing next move against Grand Theft Auto IV |
In case you missed it, Rockstar North and publisher Take-Two Interactive has finally confirmed the new release date for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of much-awaited game Grand Theft Auto IV last week. However, as much as this is a good development for the fans in general, the announcement didn't escape the sharp eyes of the controversial lawyer Jack Thompson. Here's a part of what seems to be JT's own predictions on the matter (though speaking in the third person perspective) from Game Politics' account:
Take-Two shares have jumped approximately 12% today on this news. What the market is not factoring in, however, is the downside risk coming Take-Two’s way with the sale of this “Mature” game to kids, which is a murder simulator for violence against women, cops, and innocent bystanders.
Thompson will, in the days and weeks ahead, be contacting state and federal officials to stop the improper sales of Grand Theft Auto IV to anyone under seventeen years of age, as any such sales violate state and federal fraudulent and deceptive trade practices statutes.
Indeed, Thompson has today contacted Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, who has supported ThompsonÂ’s efforts in the past.
Both Rockstar and Take-Two, on the other hand, have yet to comment on this development. But if nothing big happens similar to the whole Manhunt 2 fiasco, fans can truly expect to get their copies come April 29.

The only thing that would make me happier then seeing GTA IV released today is seeing Jack Thompson murdered in the most gruesome way imaginable.
the last thing we (gamers and the gaming industry)need is someone validating this maniac point that video games are murder simulators . I wish for him the best way to die non gaming related drowned on his own stupidity
Just how much more free advertisement and publicity is this moron is gonna give GTA before he wises up and realizes that people are gonna do whatever the hell they want they want with their money.
It would be funny if they made a character in this game, such as a street pedestrian that looked and sounded like Jack Thompson that would say clever things like, "Video games are the devils work!" and "Let me save you from the fires of Hell!" all while your beating him against the pavement into a bloody sack of waste. Man I would so be looking forward to doing that on every time I played GTAIV.
if you have played the Simpsons game, you see they have a character "Tom Jackson" on a billboard on the Grand Theft Scratchy level. He was running for office and speaking out against video games. Very funny.
get me to BUY this game if they put a Thack Jompson in GTA4...
I still really need to check out that Simpson's game.
I'm so much with you with this idea. XD
He's not really attacking the game, but rather the retail stores. At least he isn't asking for an AO rating on it, nor is he calling the game an evil work of the devil...Yet. Oh, and they do have a Jack Thompson character, but it's for GTA: SA on the PC.
you're absolutely right. I think i'm going to buy the game not because its another GTA, not because reviewers are going to give it high scores, not because everyone else is buying it, but because of how awesome this bobble head makes the game sound.
stop saying things like that, we need to show the idiots that Gamers are not inherently violent people and that games don't make people violent in real life. when you say dumb 5hit like that you're giving them ammunition.
