It's official: Sony's big sequel is SOCOM 4

Apparently Sony's big sequel isn't for the Killzone, MotorStorm, or inFamous games. It's SOCOM 4 and it's coming to PS3 this fall.

Developer Zipper Interactive is back, and in fact they were the ones who made the announcement. That begs the question of what'll happen to MAG, but according to Zipper they're still fully committed to supporting it.

Unlike Slant Six's SOCOM: Confrontation, SOCOM 4 will have a dedicated 14-mission single-player campaign in addition to a 32-person multiplayer mode. More at the source.

Was I the only one hoping for a Colony Wars sequel or HD remake? Probably. Either that or a ClockTower remake using the Heavy Rain engine. I know these aren't first party Sony titles but I can dream can't I?

Socom's left a bad taste in my mouth the last few iterations and I still feel they owe me for confrontation. Can't believe I paid retail for a game that's still a beta a year and a half after launch!

Hopefullt they'll make it first person, because third person is sooo annoying, try to play third person in MW2 it sucks or try confrontation it sucks too.. so make it FPS

3rd person is more conducive to a sneaking/stealth type game play.

Going Fist person on socom would totally change/ruin it.

3rd person allows you to check around corners, scan around/behind your guy without moving, etc, and is needed for games with any stealth aspect.

What a joke. Sony needs to please more than just the TPS and FPS fans. This is one of the reason why the 360 outsold them for some time. MS at least tried to attract the RPG and other genre fans. Although, most of those games were pretty crappy.

About the only thing that MS did right was getting Metal Gear Solid Rising, which will probably sell more PS3s because people will get curious about MGS4.

If you want TPS and FPS, get an 360. Besideds, PS3 has lots of TPS FPS games anyway. Before this generation, PS2 didn't have much FPS games. It was all about RPG for the PS2. And Xbox had Halo and the likes. Too bad this generation isn't like the last.

Oh well. Socom's not as bad some others. Gotta keep the franchises rollin' I suppose. And I can't bash it that much, since I love Socom on PSP, but I would've preferred Motorstorm 4 or something not fps lol.

Pacific Rift doesn't even have a number in the title, and AE is still the fucking third game.

If they want to make another one and call it MotorStorm 3, then that's fine. But it's still not wrong to call AE 3, and wait for a 4; and you still fail, because you used a prequel game with a story as an example, and an already numbered series as another.

I'm a massive fan of the SOCOM series and I'm pretty glad that Zipper Interactive are back to developing socom :)

Slant six did a sort of sloppy job (although it picked up later on) but zipper knows what they're doing...hopefully they'll bring the original soundtrack back too.
