Rumor no more. Sony Computer America has officially dropped the price of the already successful Sony PS2 console from the original price of $149 down to $129. This rollback is effective immediately. This price drop is consistent with the rumored figures given by analysts. The Sony people expect the price cut to fuel consumer demand amidst the inevitable launch of the Sony PS3. The console sold almost 275,000 units in North
America in March, ahead of all other game hardware, including Xbox
360, which was continuing to suffer setbacks after setbacks during those times.The company plans to disseminate this news via marketing activities that will include print and online advertising. Expect print advertising to be seen starting on April 27, 2006.

So if everyone is buying a PS2 who's going buy a PS3 or at least have enough money to one i think this will back fire soon because all those people who bought a PS2 will then try to sell them just to buy a PS3

What does Sony care if people sell PS2s used in hopes of a PS3? They sold the console to them in the first place... It's not like they lose money off that.

I'm looking to buy another PS2 for use in my car. I was going to buy a second hand slimline one but if there is a price drop on new ones soon then I'll hold out.
