It's official: Capcom confirms Devil May Cry 4 on PS3, 360, and PC |

Looks like Capcom gave us a bit of a run-around. January 27: PSM says DMC4 goes 360. January 31: Capcom says DMC4 stays PS3. Today: Capcom says DEVIL MAY CRY® 4 EXPLODING ONTO MULTIPLE PLATFORMS (as replicated from the press release). The title of Capcom's official statement hit us hard and sent us flying into the air like demon-marionettes. HUWHAT?!
In the official press release, Capcom's announced that Devil May Cry 4 (already under PS3 development) is already also being developed for both the Xbox 360 and and PC. Specifics haven't been revealed, however, it states that each version will maximize the power of the specific platform it will be released in. Capcom Executive VP adds:
Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal. This announcement means that PS3, Xbox 360, and PC owners worldwide will be able to experience the latest installment of one of Capcom's pillar franchises.
This has just been an announcement about development on the 360 and PC platforms. As for exclusive features and specific release dates for each version, we've yet to receive word. Since we're pretty much burning up here in anticipation, be sure you stick for more updates. We'll pass 'em on as they come along.

I think that with these new consoles out, development cost must be bad. so in the end, I think that all 3rd-party games will be on all systems. but I dont really care about alot of these 3rd-party games. what will make the system stand out is how a game is played,looks and most importantly the 1st-party games. and from what I see, it seems like nintendo has a strong first-party,ms has good third-party, but sony has both a strong first-party and third party. they may not keep exclusives but they still get the game.

I look forward to renting it and can care less that it goes to the 360. We will get games that went to them too. Some of the games that are multiplatform will show to be better on PS3 anyhow as well as some on the 360 will be better. It all depends on the developer. We will see a lot more of this. lol, just when you thought Capcom couldn't make any more stupid decisions. Resident Evil with lackluster sales on the crappy gamecube instead of going straight ps2, then subpar sales of lost planet and dead rising on the 360, now DMC4.
They continue to make mistakes...Talk about pissing off the PS3 owners by making us wait for it due to a port. I could guarantee the suddenly spike in release delays were because of the 360/PC port suddenly happening. Nice job capcom, way to repay the console/fans that made the game a success to begin with. I'm curious how much money microsoft threw at them to get DMC4.

Well if it's like any of Capcom's past PC ports it will be delayed for almost a year and they will ruin the graphics/gameplay in some major way.

I love MS strategy.
Step 1: Make a console (Xbox) and canabalize yourself to gain a brand image, name and a piece of the market.
Step 2: When you realize that you cant beat the competitor, forsake the current console and pump all your resources into making a next gen console and get it out before your rivals.
Step 3: Now that your the first to market and your still canabalizing your console sales convince developers to make exclusive titles and convince exclusive titles for your competitors to switch to multi-platform.
Step 4: If you see any competitor come close to your sales (aka wii) announce development of your next console...
Step 5: If your not winning by year 2-3 bring out the new console in year 4 and rinse repeat until you finally win, using your companies other business units as capital funding for your console division

What I'm upset about is that basically what they are saying is that every game they make for the PS3 is heading to the 360. But every game they make for the 360 is staying exclusive. i'm worried (and angry) because i think that capcom its not gonna desing the game especially for the specifications of the ps3 (even if they have said that they will for each console)but i dont think they will use the space of the blu-ray because they need to fit the game in a DVD for example so i think its gonna be just another port.

Honestly, if developers want to design games to be cross platform, that's cool. But if they get the *****ing idea that they don't have to work harder to produce a top quality game, because they can't focus on just keeping it under 50gb in the final product, then we are going to get some ***** games. Actually, I have been saying the exact opposite for a few years now. I will not be purchasing a devil may cry, final fantasy or god of war game, BECAUSE they are only on the tired old PS2 system. Now I finally get to try out the DMC franchise, without having to dig up a decrepid old peice of hardware.
I bought both systems, although unlike word, I perfer MS over Sony.
In my opinion the only game that needed to come to 360, metal gear is a shooter xbox has enough of that, lost odyssey is better than final fantasy 13, and dead or alive is better than tekken, xbox rox yea.

Dead rising Top 10 in the charts, Lost Planet Number 1 in the charts shortly after their releases. Resident Evil will proberly sell 3 million plus on the 360 after people have seen the quality of Dead Rising they now know what to expect next.

The console war ended before this piece of news. The PS3 is staring at its grave. This is just another nail in the coffin. PS3 exclusives: MGS4 (for now). 360 exclusives: Bioshock, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Forza, HALO 3, Gears of War, the list goes on and on and on....
Don't forget, every multiplatform game so far looks best on the 360. Coupled with Xbox live and a smaller price tag, there's just no reason for devs to stay with PS3.
No game will ever be 50 gb in this generation more like 5gb and the rest will just be pointless fmv etc. It would take Years upon years to write a game of any large size and that is why the Blu Ray is becoming mainly a movie player first and a game loader last...

Dead Rising and lost Planet, I have just looked at my box covers and both say ONLY ON XBOX 360 which usually means they are published under MS I believe, so I wouldnt count on them coming to the PS3, not that it would bother me or anyone I know who has them if they did. Dead Rising is special and Lost Planet has proberly the Largest and Smoothest displayed bosses ever seen in any game and its great online.
Personally, I think its a great news...........VF5...then...DMC4....then....the list goes on....right???

Most XBOX 360 exclusives STAY XBOX 360 exclusives. I think Oblivion is the only one to go to the PS3 so far.
Mercenaries 2, Resident evil 5, Virtua Fighter 5, Asassin's Creed, were all suposed to be PS3 exclusive at one time. (probably more)

The 360 has more realistic lighting effects. In some cases that makes the game darker. Nothing is being hidden.
Oh well, the name of the console does not give any performance to the machine, you knew that ?! So now you can take off all the stickers and brand name you did put on your car thinking it would make it more faster cause in fact, it's not. The whole multi platform thing is cool and all because 360 owners will get to experience the awesomeness that is devil may cry.
The only problem i have with it as when they go multi it means the final product is sort of a dumbed down version of what the game could've been.
They have to spend time developing each version to be more or less equal so the fan boys don't complain, time that could have been spent optimising the game on a specific console, and winding up with a really great game instead of an average - ok game.
I really hope capcom really do as they say and put some effort into developing the different versions to each platforms strengths

It may be released on the PS3 first, but the later version of all console games is usually the better version. Bethesda managed to make the PS3 version of Oblivion slightly better, although a 360 patch will add the same improvments.

their has been a rumour that capcom was going to make Dead rising 2 but instead of an xbox360 exclusive it would also appear on the PS3, the same thing for the rumour of Lost planet 2, now rumour they may be, by Capcom's act with DMC4 it'll be a given that they will do exactly what's been rumoured and make both dead rising/lost planer sequels on the PS3 and xbox360.
So I guess 1 loss = 2 wins for the PS3 owner, if it does indeed come true.
I never liked the DMC series but i feel cheated.We, the customers, are being lied to far too much by all companies. to get pissed at this is stupid seeing as many company's are doing the exact same.
While this is very sad news for PS fans, another exclusive lost for now, it is an expected move because CAPCOM and MS are very very close these days, even there are rumours about a possible CAPCOM adquisition by MS. Beyond that, Harrison even acknowledged that PS3 is having a hard time keeping exclusives because it smaller user base, that probably will change by next year. Be prepared for another big lost, MS is pushing hard trying to steal PS titles and probably DMC will not be the last, that is the real reason why Harrison says that in-house development is the right strategy.

I have to say that as an owner of a PS2 I loved all the DMC games and was disapointed that it would never get to the360. Buts thats were it ended. Today I am very happy to see this game cross platform as with any good game! and no I wouldnt care if GoW/H3 went cross platform.

When Dead Rising came out for the 360 they had about the same install base as the PS3 will have when Devil May Cry hits the market, or maybe even less since now the PS3 will be launching in Europe. Dead rising came out before the PS3. At the time it had the biggest install base so what you said is irrelevant. If sony wasn't so concerned with its new blu ray format, PS3 would have come out shortly after the 360 and the PS3 could have a chance at more exclusives.

Yes they could dump GBs of the game onto the PS3 to help load times (do you really want that from all games?), but they can also use the 360's HDD _IF_ they want too (core 360 owners will not benefit of course). However, with the speed of the DVD drive in the 360, there's probably no need.

Just like when CD drives were first being sold for computers. A single speed external drive was over $500. Before that the average game came with a few 1.44mb floppy disks. A good computer at that time had 4mb ram, a 25 mhz processor with no real graphics card, and under 100mb of hard drive space! Developers had no idea what to do with 650 mb of space and made a lot of stupid games with lots of full motion video and speech. If anything it made the developers lazy and the games worse! The extra space provided by Blu ray or HD-DVD is not needed this generation for gaming.

With this announcement I now face the truth that Sony simply will not be able to have exclusive titles anymore. If Sony really wants to succeed this generation then it will have to make an online experience that is on par with that of the 360s. Maybe Home will do that for Sony right now I just don't know. The only exclusive title that I can think of for the PS3 is Little Big Planet (which looks amazing by the way). Even after Home is releaed I still think Sony needs to work out the kinks with its online service including more PSone network titles.

Jack with Sony named 9 ps3 exclusives that he said would sell the console...interestingly, he did not mention DMC4 because he must have known well before the public, that it was going to be mulit-platform. Hopefully he is confident of the titles he did name.

Killzone. Well the first was average and all we've seen of the sequel is that pre-rendered trailer at E3 (but we'll see it soon since it was shown behind closed doors at GDC).
The Eight Days trailer is just a pre-rendered 'target' for the game. So again, not worth putting on that list.
Lair has potential, but given Factor 5's past record of games, I'm yet to be convinced it's anything more than just graphics over gameplay.
Eye of Judgement look interesting, but we'll have to wait and see.
So other than R+C and GoW3, your list is rather pointless.

In a interview with Kojima. He said he does not plan on going on multi-platform, and that he will stay loyal on the system brand that he has been successful on. I would beleive he would keep it on PS3.
Blu-ray does not mean bigger levels! If Gears or War needed more space, then it could be spread over multiple DVDs!!! Blue Dragon is 40-50 hours gameplay spread over 3 DVDs!.
Smarter AI also has nothing to do with space. AI depends on CPU power (BOTH general and arithmetic), RAM and code. Whilst the PS3 is capable of twice the floating-point power of the 360, the 360 is capable of up to 3 times the power of the PS3 for general code. Both consoles also have the same amount of RAM (512MB), so expect AI to be about the same on BOTH (it balances out).
More voice overs? Yes it's possible if the game is on ONE disk only (and it's easier to manage), but if the game is spread over multiple disks, then again, this will not be the case.
So to address your original post. Multi-platform games are NOT getting down sized and it's foolish to assume this. If a game is so big that it can't fit on one DVD, then the 360 will require multiple disks whereas the PS3 version needs just one. THAT'S ALL.
Also, downloadable content is becoming more important as this gen progresses, which means more and more of our game content will be stored on the HDD (take GTA4 for example, with it's exclusive episodic content).
So stop making excuses. Last gen, multi-platform games were not down sized because of the PS2 and GC, instead, in most cases, the XBox had the best version thanks to space and power. The PS2 version had the space but suffered due to less power and less memory, and the GC had the power but often suffered due to less space and less memory.
If the PS3 has all the advantages you claim, then it should have the best version of multi-platform games. However, given what we know about both consoles, expect to see little (if any) difference since both are similar in terms of power and memory, with disk space issues resolved through multiple disks.

from my experienc in playing games and reading developer interviews lots of developers including hideo kojima and the developers of resident evil 4 wanted to add extra content to thier games but they couldnt because of disk space example resident evil 4 had fake widescreen on camecube to compress the textures in the game and make it look smoother on two 1.5gig mini disk while the ps2 version had full widescreen and bonus missions and weapons which has nothing to do with the systems power ..
if you read all the hideo kojima interviews he states that he would have added more content to his games if he had more disk space
people always complain about load times so imagine if the people that complain about load times have to swap two or three disk to play games that fit on one blueray or hd dvd little thing like that bother .so where im getting at is that u can get 1080p textures uncompressed 7.1 surround sound uncompressed bigger maps more cut scenes which games like devil may cry and metal gear take advantage of so when developers start to need more space thats when theyll take advantage of blue ray so until then no more unfinished games like oblivion on 360 which u need to download textures that didnt fit on the disk just so it can look as good as the ps3 version and im not making this up developers need memory so if u want a 3 disk blue dragon go ahead .i want a one disk final fantasy with non compressed 1080p texturs for a real full hd experience..soon all developers will go 25 gig then 50 gigs in about 2 to three years cause sony is still launching thier system in time developers will come back..

jb is right. But Sony fanboys expect the developers to make games at a loss to keep them on the Playstation brand. They blame the developer and not Sony. The fact is the 360 is a strong platform and is going to be leading the PS3 in install base for many years to come. Get use to losing exclusives, that's the price you pay to have a Blu-ray player in your console.

i modded my first xbox so when i ripp games to my 300 gig hard drive i can see how big the games are the average game ran from 2 to 3 gig but high end games like splinter cell ran about 6.5 gigs and now were in the high def era where the average game runs about 7 to 9 gigs lair for ps3 will use up 4 gigs just for two levels if the game has 8 to 12 levels you do the math and its only the ps3's first year!!!

Now in all your replies here, not once have you shown where this has happened in the past. Where had the XBox version of a multi-platform game been 'down sized' because of the PS2 and GC? As I mentioned, the XBox version was usually the best version, with better textures, effects, more polygons etc, so if your claims about the PS3 is true, then IT SHOULD ALSO BE THE BEST VERSION, including textures and effects, not a version down sized because of the 360.
So your whole arguement that for today's multi-platform games the PS3 version will be down sized because of the 360 is completely FALSE. Take the Darkness for example, because of the extra space on Blu-ray, the devs will include complete TV shows which gamers can watch on TVs within the game itself. So how is the PS3 version down sized in this case? And other devs have there own ideas of how to use the extra space on Blu-ray. Which leads neatly onto the other point.

I never said it was better, more space equals more CONTENT, not better content, but much of that can be achieved on multiple disks on the 360. Hence I said it wasn't the problem YOU make it out to be. For example, take your arguement that gamers will complain about multiple disks, you say this in one post, and then in your next post you list a number of popular games from previous gens which were on multiple disks!!! So like I said, it's NOT a problem for gamers, especially if the game is great!
Also, the idea that Blu-ray means uncompressed textures at 1080p is nonsense. Compressed textures are used not just because they save disk space, but MOSTLY because they save space in video RAM and reduce bandwidth (i.e. quicker to load). The PS3 has just 256MB of video RAM, therefore if you compress your textures to 1/4 the original size, not only do they take 1/4 of the time to load, but you can squeeze 4 TIMES AS MANY TEXTURES in video RAM and still maintain the same quality overall. All modern GPUs have hardware support for decompression, hence they can deal with compressed textures without losing any performance.
That's why despite all the space available on Blu-ray, a minority of PS3 games support 1080p natively, since RAM and processing power are the biggest limitations to it's use!
For streamed content, such as voice overs for realtime cut scenes, then yes, devs can use uncompressed PCM audio if they want to during cut scenes. This doesn't necessarily improve the quality over over formats, but it does reduce processing power requirements, and therefore can be helpful (but it's not for ingame sound effects because these have to be stored in RAM ready for IMMEDIATE use).
Finally, I couldn't help but notice your Resident Evil 4 comments where you ignore the fact that the PS2 version was released long after the GC original and therefore benefitted from the extra time. yes u quoted me so u understand that in my first comment i said games gotta get downsized not down graded so all im saying is that developers will put the same amount of content in a ps3 game thats in a xbox360 just cause its multi platform it never happend in the last gen games because ps2 and xbox both used dual layer dvds most of your replies are true i agree with most of your replies but even if uncompressed textures on ps3 will not mean longer load times since u can download the entire cach data to the hard drive like virtual fighter no load time in that game. all im saying is that 4 a true hd gaming experience un need a full hd dvd with hdmi out thats why there pumping out a 120gig hdmi xbox 360 all they need is another update to use your hddvd player for games until that time comes ill buy my multi platform games on the ps3..thank 4 your replies i have a life too lol but im on vacation so i can go at it all day and night lol...xbl gamertag "saaboner"

THE PS3 WILL BE JUST FINE IN A COUPLE OF YEARS. ITS NO BIG DEAL TO HAVE GAMES GO MULTIPLATFORM. ITS JUST MORE MONEY FOR THEM TO MAKE. I WOULD DO THE SAME IF I OWNED A GAME PUBLISHER.
