It's not the "PS3 Nunchuk", it's the "Navigation Controller"

Okay, you guys can stop calling it the PlayStation Move's "Nunchuk" now. Sony's secondary controller for its motion technology apparatus now has an official name: Navigation Controller.

ps_navcon

So says the information sheet up on the US PlayStation Blog, "The supplementary controller adds diretional buttons, an analog stick, and two shoulder buttons into the PlayStation Move's control scheme. Used in most of the PlayStation Move games that require navigating an in-game character, it replicates the control features of the left side of the DualShock wireless controller into your PlayStation Move experience."

Here are the key features of the Navigational Controller:

  • Wireless control completely untethered from the PlayStation®Move motion controller.
  • Intuitive navigation of in-game characters
  • Easy and intuitive XMB™ menu navigation.
  • Built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery
  • Charge the controller and automatically pair with the PS3™ system via a USB cable
  • Up to two motion controllers and two navigation controllers can be connected at once to the PS3™ system.
  • Note- DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller can be used in place of the navigation controller for all games that are compatible with the navigation controller

Nice name, by the way.

nothing fancy about the name right there, alright. but somehow, i find it a tad unimaginative. what would you have named it?

"Up to two motion controllers and two navigation controllers can be connected at once to the PS3™ system. "

hmm, that doesn't sound good. That means it can only handle two sets of motion-sensing controllers at once. Even the Wii can handle 4 sets.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to have four fat guys swinging around their arms in my living room.

I wonder if Move could match the precision of a keyboard and mouse in shooter games, should be interesting to see how it turns out.

I think this has to do with the ps3 only being able to connect up to 4 dualshock controllers at once.

4 controllers = 2 Nav-controllers + 2 move's.

The wii actually does the same as the nunchuck is connected to the wiimote (which is sending all the information between the console and the controller).

You can connect up to 7 controllers to the PS3 at one time...

That is because the Wii Nunchuk is tethered to the main controller. It's not a separate entity.

I noticed tha too, weird, dont you need the Move and the Navigation controller to act as 'one' controller? so that would really mean that only 2 players can play at once?

Yup, that sucks ROCKS!!! Seems like only 2 players at a time when both devices are needed.

i see no use on the consumer part for buying this , nothing special and most great games in the PS3 library dont need motion control

'Intuitive'?

"Up to two motion controllers and two navigation controllers can be connected at once to the PS3™ system. "

So if I wanted to play with 4 people we would have to just use the "MOVE" controller than. Much like 4 Wiimotes. That's disappointing. No local 4 player FPS then.

The name sounds good to me. More than two players would be good but I have seen videos of people playing wii where the players were hitting eash other because they were too close. Also some two player PS3 games in 3D would be the bomb too! I wonder if Rockstar will add some gunslinging action in Red Dead Redemption using these motion controllers. That would be tight!

you ppl have issues leave the 360 jokes out of this thing its for your beloved PS3 and it's not gonna do a very good job.. pretty sure the technology going into this "nunchuck" could have been done with a usb addon for the controller itself

ill be calling in NavBar

cause thats how i roll

why would you want more than 2 players, (put it like this, very few hardcore games would handle 2+, will make the casual suffer though, thing is it wouldnt be difficult to overcome this problem inanother rev)

Every one Upset about this supporting only two players is forgetting that Most PS3's now only have 2 USB ports and you need the PS3 Cam for this to work, (AKA) you may need TWO cams for some games.

have you ever heard of a usb hub ? :-*

there is no shortage of usb ports if sony need more then this will do the same thing as rockband do. they give you a usb hub which uses 1 up on the ps3 and gives you 4.

if you some how need more than that then you can buy a bigger hub

You guys should stop complaining about how it will only support 2 controllers and acting like you always have lots of people to play with...It's not like you are gonna have more than 2 people playing with you anyway. You'll probably only wish it had more controller support one or two times, but then you'll just go back to playing your regular games all alone.
Oh and before some dumbass starts complaining to me how they need 4 controllers...just shut up...i dont care...this is the internet...so phuck you :D

I personally think the name should be the Playstation Hands, to match with the Playstation Eye. Then you would just call them Right Hand and Left Hand.
