It's confirmed: PS3 controller is called SIXAXIS |
Ó
Some agree the palindrome is Sony at its most clever, but some would still rather call the PS3 controller "Dual Shock 3". But without the rumble, that leaves us with our hopes pigeonholed for other things. For Sony, it's the wireless capability that lets the PS3 controller stay up until 30 hours when fully charged. For others, it's probably the Bluetooth capability. But whatever it is, the name of Sony's next-gen PS3 controller is now confirmed: SIXAXIS.The six-axis sensing capability of the PS3 controller lets you access the PS3 through the network and practically eliminates additional settings to TVs. The USB-outfitted controller comes with the PS3 hub itself or can be bought in Japan for ¥ 5,000 (US$ 43) beginning November 11. Other PS3 accessories that Sony sells include the USB Memory Card Adaptor (¥ 1,500 or US$ 13) and the BD Remote (¥ 3,600 or US$ 31 by December 7th). The USB Memory Card Adaptor lets you transfer your beloved PS2 or PSX game data for the PS3 hard drive.
Will Sony come up with more news about its next-gen console in the coming days? We'll keep you updated, so keep reading.

wow thats a wack name bring back dual shock!!!!
OMG what a f@cked name...
All you Sony And Microsoft Fan boys are all the same, When the Ps2 was out and the Xbox was about to arrive all the arguments started about power, size and which one would win. Sony fan boys convinced that the amount of games already out would win it and Microsoft fan boys convinced that The power of the machine would win it. Now al you Muppets are arguing the reason that the other console last time around would fail is now the reason that your new console will win. Nintendo Will always be there with who ever makes it because they stick to there roots and the fans know this and can expect the best games even though the might not have the most power. Just Like the days of Sega mega drive and the Snes, and look who is still around out of them two
What do your comments have to do with the topic?
On topic. It is good to see that Sony is releasing all the details about the PS3. I thought at TGS they would tell all, but for some reason they felt the need to dream of the future rather than stay focused on the present.
Ken's speech sucked plain and simple. Oh well, atleast now I have some idea of what I am getting myself into. After seeing the Phil Harrison video explaing about the XMB and its features and hearing this news, I can say I feel a little more confident about purchasing a PS3.
I still am unsure about the backwards compatibility thing. Will we be able to display them in higher resolutions?
There are more questions, but it seems that Sony has not got around to answering them. Maybe they will in the coming weeks.
Those prices are excellent, far better than the Wii accessories, let's just hope they translate well for outside of Japan.
6X6 = sixaxis!!! cool
No one is going to want to say that, so maybe there'll be some kind of abbreviation. Maybe SixAxis Controller or SAC, but then that might get into all kinds of trouble:
"Hey, give me your SAC, I want to play!"
So maybe they will say the whole name, but if you say it really quickly, it starts to sound like 'sex access'. Another whole world of trouble.
Oh, what are we to do?!!?
duh
you took all this time coming up with ridiculous scenarios and simply "ax" didnt come to mind? #8 is right...duh. I cant wait to get my hands on that sweet ax.
"PS3 controller stay up until 30 hours when fully charged"
My god! That's so long. Compare to the 360's controller which only last a couple of hours.
Man you are clueless. In the offical specs of both consoles, the X360 controller lasts 40 hours; even with rumble. So why dont you crawl back into your fanboy cave. At least you could have used a realistic argument of say 20-30 hours. Mine have easily lasted 30 hours. I bet the PS3 will last more than 30 hours though, unless the motion sensor is power hungry.
You give playstation fans a bad name.
the memory card adapter is pretty cheap.
Yeah the 360 controller lasts for a long time man... I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul
PS3 controller... I'll miss the rumble :(
Mmmmmhha hha ha ha ha ... haaaaaaaaaaaaa ha haha haaaa...
@ #3
Actually PS3 has both the games and the power this time. Upcoming games that is, but none the less. Scratchbox 360 still doesnt, except for RE 5, which is good. It needs more of those to reach out to the 100 million + that bought a PS2 last time, for its game library.
First things first, JUST BECAUSE NINTENDO ANNOUNCED THE *****ING MOTION SENSING FIRST DOESNT MEAN THEY STARTED IT FIRST. It takes alot of prototyping and testing before deciding on any type of new periphial for a console. Microsoft Started working on their 360 controler not even a month after the Xbox came out. Sonys controller was hinted towards before Nintendo reviealed its own. Shame on sony for secrets right?
Second, the reason the PS2 won the 'console war' is because of games and marketing. MS was doomed from the start with their bad PR from the whole monopoly fiasco they had not to shortly before hand. They didnt have the right marketing, the flexibility of game genre's nor even any good games out for it. Game Libraries won the console war mainly. PS2 might not of had the best library when it launched, but by the time and after the XB launch their library picked up. Not to mention the amount of PS1 games playable right from launch.
Third the whole power vs games argument is flawed. Last gen, the only thing XB had for it was graphics, a handfull of above mediocre games. Nintendo had decent graphics but only had a handfull of games worth buying as well. The ps2 had games, ps1 and ps2, there are many desirable franchises that have landed in its library. Its selection is what pushed it to where it is today. Its why it won the console war. Same with the NES and SNES. Sure the genisis had a good start with game but Nintendo in the end gained a better library.
Finnaly, Whats going to decide what will win? The games pure and simple. Yes the PS3 has a graphical lead but that will not win it. Its game lineup will though, it has a hand full of desireable titles already and is not even out yet. The 360's library is only now becoming interesting and worth the thought. The wii, i dont know, there hasnt been much past the controler hype on it yet. Zelda, mario, and red steel look promising though.
With Out vibration FPS games will suck because they have a lack of enviriment.
You, my friend, are a moron. Everyone knows the best FPS experience is on the PC, without Rumble, so STFU.
You, my friend, are a fanboy. Everyone knows the best FPS experience is a matter of opinion, so STFU.
You, my friend, are an *****. Everyone knows the best FPS comes from the graphics and physics thats why everyone keeps upgrading their computer or else people would just stay with their 5 year old computers
You, my friend, are ...... well nothing, I just wanted to continue the pattern. This whole name thing is dumb, Sony can call their controller hairy balls and It won't make an ounce of difference to me. Because it will do the same thing no matter what its called. If you don't like the name **** off, because your a worthless piece of ****. Its a damn controller for crying out loud. Question, what is the name of the 360 controller anyone?
A Motion sensing controller with a USB cord $43(USD converted) Cheap! well its gonna be cheaper than $43 in the US since all the prices end in 9. I'll say its gonna cost you around $39.99 USD.
Regular = SixAxis
Backwards= sixAxiS
OOOooOOOooOOOoo oOOOo
Spooky, isn't it
Yeah and you should pronounce it "six-uh-k'sis" too.
Stupid name if you ask me. Nobody gives a damn if its an anagram. You're going to be SAYING the name, not spelling it.
"Give me the Sixaxis." Yeah right.
At least nobody was uncomfortable saying "hand me the wavebird"
It's a Palindrome, not an Anagram. And really, ho calls controllers by their official names? Just say PS3 pad.
crazy name anyways
sony never makes up thier minds
they changed the release dates how much 5 TIMES
they changed the look of the boomerang controller (and copied the wiimote)
they didnt know if they wanted to make it hd compatable
i mean come on are you serious?
Sony is probably going to change the name of the controller every two weeks
dont get me wrong i luv the ps series... i just dont like sony
