After all the rumors and the teasing, Capcom has finally confirmed an XBLA and PSN outing for Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Worst kept gaming industry secret in recent years? It's definitely a contender.

This version is being touted as the "definitive version" of the game and will be based on the Dreamcast code base. There will be an online mode of course, and since Backbone is in charge of MvsC2, the game will largely be using the net code in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

The game will also get a couple of HD upscaling options -- "Crisp" and "Smooth" -- to accompany the unfiltered "Classic" mode. These options are applied in real-time so you can easily change them even if you're in the middle of a game. Widescreen support is also supported. Here's an explanation of how it works:

Play area is unchanged, and this is not a zoom and crop like HD Remix was. To put it simply, the gameplay area will be in a 4:3 field, while the viewing area will be widescreen. At the same time, for purists and competitive play, a 4:3 option (with vertical bars on the left and right) still exists.

They're also throwing in some music options like volume control and custom soundtracks for those didn't like the game's original score. Also, there are no unlockables in this game. All 56 characters will be available to play right from the start.

If you're already dying to have a taste of the new and improved Marvel vs Capcom 2, don't worry. The PS3 version's demo will be on the PlayStation Store this week (most likely along with the Thursday update). It'll also be on the Euro PS Store soon after.

The release date has been set for this summer. Price is US$ 14.99 for the PS3 version and 1200 Microsoft Points for the Xbox 360 version. For now, check out this gameplay video.

» OMG YAY

Now all those eBay scalpers can go to hell with their $60-200 prices. F*ckers

People will just buy it on XBL/PSN. Can't wait to play this

» Woot!

I have all 3 versions (PS2 Dreamcast Xbox) and I I'm glad they are re releasing MvsC2 to PS3 and Xbox 360 because one of the things i wanted to do in my life was to collect all the versions of the game i can. I am also glad that they are going for the Dreamcast ver. because it was by far the best one out of the 3.

» I'd love to...

OWN YOU! Dunno if you got PSN or not, but if you do let's play. I'm curious if all that "hand/eye coordination improvement" you get from playing FPS will help you in a fighting game. It will be EPIC!

Dude it sucks using Dualshock 3 or the 360 controller with this game. That's the only setback for me and besides that I'm glad it's coming out. Now all we need is a sequel.

@Master Chef

I doubt the price will go down. Hard copy are still hard to find and many people do love hard copies over digital.

» lol

I just remembered you're the guy I was yelling at over western RPGs

If PSN games have trials (idk i dont look much) then deal, I buy everything on Xbox tho. Nothing against PS3, but I was using my Xbox for years before I bought it and have a ton of really good friends on there, so I figure ill just keep using it

» Of course

But the market will get much smaller. Before this you HAD to pay those jerks if you wanted to play it at all. Now if you're not hardcore to the extreme and don't absolutely need a hard copy of it you can just dl it for 1/3 the price

intresting, in what way was it the best version? I have the ps2 version and thought it was crap.. well not complete ***** just crap compared the street fighter games and even capcom vs snk 2.

» Trials?

You mean a demo? I think there is a demo coming thursday on PSN. Other than that, don't know what you mean. Oh wells.

@papajag

I use Dualshock for every fighting game and trust me I easily can best a lot of stick players. Besides, hori sticks and fighting pads are good and availabe to buy for PS3. I don't agree with people who say sticks are "better" than pads. I willingly challenge any pad haters to play me at something (MK vs DC is not an option though). Oh and yeah I'm sure this will lower the cost for a hard copy if it isn't in mint condition.

You never knew?! The dreamcast was pushing out MILLIONS of polygons the hardware was LIGHT YEARS ahead of the competition! That makes MVC2 on dreamcast "better'. Yeah not really, I'll stop being sarcastic now. Apparently there some people out there who's vision far exceeded mine cause I saw no difference in any version. So I'd love to know myself, but I agree with you MVC2 is kinda booty compared to other Street Fighters. I'm still going to buy it though. Doubt it will get me off my main games for long though.

» finally!

This is great, because i have a pristine copy for xbox but every since the NEW XBOX EXPERIENCE update I haven't been able to play ANY of my original XBOX games from the discs. I can finally get on and kick some ass on one of my favorite fighters of all time!

Gonna pass on this cos I hate this game even on my old DC but can we perhaps get a PSN/XBLA version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX (the PSP incarnation of the game with the extra fighters and game modes)? Would be nice to have that playable on the big screen and online.

holy jesus monkeyballs!

ITS THE BEST FIGHTER OF ALL TIME!

well one of the best..

i really missed this game after my sister broke my hard copy for ps2.... T_T

» yea

If the trial has a multiplayer sample then we'll go at it

BTW papajag what's wrong with the DS for fighting games? The d-pad on that is nearly perfect. 360 pad is the only one that sucks for fighting games, unless you buy those improved d-pads from 3rd party companies it's borderline unusable

by *****bandit - 2009-04-28 20:29
» Yeah.

I hope for that and SF3 3rd strike. And hey look! No tacky HD-remix sprites on this! I'm betting we'll see more stuff hit PSN from capcom if this is a success, which I'm sure it will be.

» SAD!

Got the demo, and no online multiplayer (figures). I was gonna fight for JRPGs everywhere, and you Western RPGs! What an epic battle that'd been! Oh well.
