Is a PS3 price cut the only option for Sony? |
Ó
A recent article from Digital Home explores the options (or lack of it) for Sony in the console wars where the PlayStation 3 is still behind the Wii and the Xbox 360. The article focuses on Sony's gamble on the console as a primary product and the Blu-ray as a primary format.According to the article, the PS3 is currently Sony's most important product; its flagship that would make or break the company. Sony also integrated its Blu-ray format into the console. The Blu-ray, however, is in a format war that's relatively just as fierce as the one raging with the consoles.
Now here lies the crux: should the PS3 not live up to its promise and totally fail in the gaming market, not only would it cost Sony its flagship but also its primary weapon in the format wars. The fall of the PS3 would not only take down Sony's place in the gaming industry but it will bring down the Blu-ray as well, which is critical to Sony's future.
The solution Digital Home offers is that Sony should offer price cuts for the PS3. A price cut would lower profits, but it would sell more consoles and would invariably give the Blu-ray an advantage in the market. Not only would the Sony carry profits from sales of PS3's but from Blu-ray format movies as well.
Gloom and doom aside though, the end is still nowhere in site for the console wars and it may still be a little early to tell whether Digital Home's prediction will come to pass. The consoles have not yet seen a full year of combat and the market is still expecting games that might change the direction of the market.
As Sony always points out, when the PlayStation 2 was released it had the same problems as the PS3 but now it's remains as the most played console, even more than the next gens. We'll have to wait and see what's in store for Sony's future and whether we'll see a PS3 price cut or not.

they need to see beyond their noses and some common sense(I mean real common sense, not the local troll
the PS3 will get a price cut eventually but its stupid to do that right now, they will start to get a lot of sales with big games and they are starting to come out(lair is now gold) an they will be coming up month by month from now, the price cut will come in future when needed (a massive 360 price cut or to make a new boom in sales)

Sony has to work a little harder at the firmware features and the PS3 will go up in the selling stats.
SONY, WAKEUP AND GO TO WORK!!!!

So you like that MS allows you a larger HD option, but then you'd pick the smaller HD option with the PS3? Wait....I thought a big HD was a priority?
You want to look at photos on your computer, that's fine, but the memory card ports will allow people to load images onto their PS3s to be used in games (LittleBigPlane t for one, as well as Home).
If you're going to come up with a line of BS, please have it make sense.

Price makes a BIG difference. The only reason I don't have a ps3 is because of the horrendous price. I got a Wii and got hooked on to Mario all over again and hence Sony, like me, lost millions of gamers who thought along the lines of:
"Dude! I don't want no gay ass HD-DVD player I don't even buy NORMAL dvds let alone HD ones.... So why the ***** should I have to pay 600 bucks for an HD DVD player if I want to buy a next-gen console?"
And now we have the result. Yeah yeah yeah....I know the ps3 is JUST STARTING, and that IT WILL PICK UP. But the fact still remains that if it didn't ahve the stupid ass blu-ray IT WOULDN'T HAVE TO PICK UP.....because it would already be selling strong.
Nice job sony. You destroy your hold on the gaming market just to propandagize your stupid ass HD-DVD format.
Btw. 60% of ps3 owners don't know what blu-ray means.

And if it didn't have Blu-Ray, it wouldn't have to pick up? If it didn't have Blu-ray it probably WOULDN'T pick up. Without Blu-ray PS3 loses one of the biggest advantages it has over the 360. They'd save on price by cutting the cell and making a hard drive optional too...but there's already a 360 out there.
60% of statistics are made up on the spot, BTW.

Do you wish you could have a free ps3 well all you need to do is go to http://www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4049743. Here all you have to do is sign up and do one referral. Once that is completed just refer people and wait for your ps3 in that mail.
Step 1: Go to http://www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4049743
Step 2: Sign up and choose an account type (Referral is the easiest and the best)
Step 3: Complete just 1 offer (like Blockbuster or Stamps.com) and refer up to 14 people to do the same (eBay! Do what I did, copy my ad). Its cool because although you have to use your credit card, you don't have to pay a single penny, just don't forget, if you sign up for stamps.com, don't forget to cancel the account before 30 days of subscription, YOU PAY $0..... (for stamps install the program and print one stamp to make sure it goes through.)
If Canadian go and sign up for the zip.ca one page two of most popular. Both are free REMEMBER TO CANCEL BEFORE IT EXPIRES LIKE AFTER IT IS CONFERMED
Step 4: Receive your PS3 for FREE!!!!!!!!!!( Even The Shipping Is Free!!!)
For proof that this is for real, check out this site: http://www.trainn.org/reviews.php

Sony can be breaked by it's ps3 as much as M$ can be breaked with it's x360, lol. They are two EXTREMLY BIG names and none of them can be "broken".
And anyway, I had an xbox360 and I'll have a ps3 too, I don't care about all this stupidity and nonsense. There is only nintendo that only have videogames to be backed up, so the most fragile brand is still nintendo, since after the wii, they'll have an even bigger challenge (now M$ and sony know what to do to make money), they will have to work even harder to continue to go well. Sony could stop doing consoles after the ps4 is the ps3 go wrong after a while, but I don't think so, so you'll see at least a ps4 and a ps5. Same for M$, even if their x360 would be "crushed" by the ps3 or even if their xbox720 would be crushed, they'll make another one anyway, and on both, you'll see great exclusives, M$ and sony are too powefull to lose, they can just be "almost the best", but never "the looser".

Get it through your thick head please: "No one gives two *****s about blu-ray."
My freakin' laptop can read blu-ray. So I am sure as hell not coughing up 600 bucks to buy ANOTHER blu-ray player. As will other millions of people that sony lost.
Spending money on a computer or gf/bf is JUSTIFIED, it's not a complete waste like this.
And oh yeah, that 60% made-up statistic is from the Official US PlayStation Magazine. I advise you take it up with them or perhaps take an economics course.

The gaing industry needs to be fought on a level playing field. As long as MS are involved the consumer will get screwed.

"U sony gay fanboy would stop sucking diicks then you would realise that most people dont give a fuuck about blue ray. They just care about the games. I would not buy any blue ray movies at all. Game consoles should remain Games console."
Seriously?......If I couldn't afford a blu-ray player and HDTV I would ***** and moan about how no one needs Blu-ray also. But in a way you're right....poor people can't afford those luxuries anyways which I'm assuming you fall into that category.
