BBC working on iPlayer for PS3 - Image 1Well they took their sweet time, but it looks like the BBC's iPlayer is finally on its way to the PlayStation 3.

The iPlayer has been promised to the PlayStation 3 crowd since April. Apparently, the delay was due to the console's Flash Player. Explains the BBC:

We're... working on bringing BBC iPlayer to Sony PS3, but we're not quite there yet as the PS3 uses a slightly older version of Flash which doesn't support some of the features used in our media player, and the very promising Flash 9 update now available on PS3 has some compatibility issues.

Our Flash developers are working on it.

The Wii got their version of the iPlayer a few months ago, since the platform offers a web browser. The Xbox 360's lack of it prevented the iPlayer from coming to Xbox Live.

PlayStation 3 owners outside of the UK may feel deprived of PlayTV, but maybe the iPlayer can sub for it. It's no DVR, but at least you get to watch programs when you want it - only programs from the BBC though.
