Insomniac: New banning policy for RFoM effective immediately |
Ó
Heads up, Resistance: Fall of Man players - a new banning policy has just been implemented by Insomniac and Sony, as Chris of Videogame-news.com reports. First off, offensive user names and clan tags - and obviously, a combination of both - would get you on the bad side of the law (not bad side of the law GTA-style, more like violating EULA bad side of the law style). Even the clever few who combine the first three letters of their clan tag with their usernames to spell out something naughty isn't exempt from this item, either.
Those caught and reported to be naming themselves after things that break the PG barrier would have themselves permanently banned and their Playstation Network accounts suspended.
Next up is cheating and exploiting, two things that ruin the fun of the game for everyone. If you've spotted a player using lag devices or exploits or any type of trickery to get an unfair advantage over the game, you can have them ejected from the player area by simply sending a private message to the MyResistance.Net "cheating" account.
The username to PM is "cheating", without the quotation marks.
We at QJ, along with the folks over at Insomniac and Sony, would like to remind gamers that cheating and the use of in-game exploits is strictly prohibited in any game type, and that includes custom and private games.
But what about if you're knee-deep into a game, and can't spare a moment to PM someone? Worry not, for Insomniac and Sony have deployed "In-game moderators" with the ability to check up on any game, whether it be ranked, custom or provide, and catch anyone sharing or abusing exploits without being seen. Kind of like Police Ninjas, but totally invisible.
Caught red-handed? Serves you right, but Insomniac and Sony are no ogres. A first-time ban would have you out of the game for only 24 hours. Don't push your luck too much, though, as the duration of the bans will grow longer and longer with every succeeding offense. Dodging your ban would have the same consequences, so don't even think about it.
So we're reminding everyone to keep things clean.

the game is rated 15, hence there should be leniency on the usernames used as technically speaking, kids should not be playing the game so there should not be any problem with it
It is dumb to put a ban on "offensive" names. This game is rated M.It is not for kids.
First I've gotten banned from Underground, now they are instituting this policy? When I signed up for the PSNetwork no one said I would get banned for having a clever(not really) username, all my stats are attached to this account. How would I even change my name if I wanted to to something 'non offensive'. Why should I even have to. I'm an adult, Sony should just make sure people that would get offeneded by 'ivedoneyourmom' stay off an adult orientated game. Who's to say what is offensive, next they will be banning all the chronic420s, and mrpeezpants. What a sad state of affairs this world has turned out to be.
While I agree with the lag-devices and other serious directed cheating, exploits aren't cheating - saying people who take advantage of game glitches is just a way of saying Insomniac saying "Hey! stop that! We're too lazy to patch the game, so quit it, my score sux because of you" Sorry, it's like telling Mario he can't use level warps. It's in the game, it's fair play, even if they didn't intend it that way.
The difference there is the level warps are built into the game, while the things in Resistance are glitches which shouldn't be there, and the developer is working to patch. They've also issued warnings about going off the map, and told you what the consequences are. I shouldn't have to worry about being sniped in my respawn spot in Sommerset because someone is shooting me from under the map. They're working to make the game fair for everyone, and I applaud them for it. I stopped playing the game for awhile because the number of people off the map was getting worse and worse, and combined with the guys using lag switches it just wasn't fun anymore. I'm also very thankful for the "Mute" option. I don't understand people that join the game and say things like "Hey f*gs, is anyone out there a f*g? Do you want to do me f*gs? I bet you f*gs want to do me..." or the guys that come up with all the nasty racial slurs. Man, I just want to play a game, not listen to some dude spout off. MUTED! Gord
I think a cleaner gameplay environment is a good thing. Big deal - change your name. Your rank is going to be reset anyway. Everyone will have a chance to be one of the big boys again - sitting high on the hill. What's the big deal - you can't used [MYM]Uthereatsc0k Grow up. If you really are 15+ and 18+ why are you acting like babies.
If the game has that kind of exploit where the player can go under the map and snipe you, that's a horrible error on the developers and should be patched immediately. Anyone using that exploit should not be banned though, as the fault lies on the developers. I personally like using exploits in online games and applaud a few games that have actually capitalized on them. Gunz: The Duel for the PC has a glitch where players can jump at a wall, sword slash, and immediately jump again into the wall and repeat. This caused players the ability to jump off a ledge and "Wall Slash" straight up to the next level. Not only is it not mentioned on the website as it is considered a glitch, but the developers will not fix it and instead released maps for the higher level players that really take advantage of the glitch. I personally enjoy being in a underground cavern with bottomless pits as players are flying up the side of the caves shooting each other. So I think players using exploits is totally fine. But if a exploit is that horrendous as you have just mentioned, developers should be held accountable and fix these errors.
grow up.
Except for the fact you have to leave your game to report someone....but at least it's a step in the right direction. I also think it depends on the glitch, but just but there is a problem that sony will find with this system....rampant abuse and people being reported as cheating, just for being to good at the game, or for no reason at all.....This is why live has no auto-ban (in ranked) games, as it was tried and failed.....even in player matches only the host can kick/ban, in most games....
What do you expect, there have got to be a billion Jason's on PSN, there is no way for people to get there name, and it would be pretty lame/inappropriate/dangerous to use my full name, who knows what kind of freaks are on there. I think Nintendo got it right with the uuids they use on DS and Wii, it however has its drawbacks, hmm whas my log in 153232512412 or 13253245412... And as for growing up, that seems like a rather silly thing to ask a bunch of people playing a video game. I think people just need to learn that the world is an ugly, violent, crass place and that there is no room for 'whiners' as you stated, the real whiners are the people that get offended by a string of characters intended on representing a silly, nonsensical idea. [MYM]Uthereatsc0k has no foundation in the real world, how do you know if [MYM]Uthereatsc0k's mom does or not do that, and even if she did you have no connection of the real person to the name. People that get offended by that crap are the same people that think Huck Fin is racist.
this is great, every game i played online this week has had at least one glitcher, and it is on no way fir game. those saying that are just trying to justify there glitcher which they do to make up for how ***** they actually are
"Anyone using that exploit should not be banned though, as the fault lies on the developers." BS. There is a word for this practice. Its called cheating. Its the same as saying, "It was the way she was dressed" or "Hey!! The bank shouldn't have left all that money that wasn't mine lying around" Its opportunist crap, and you know it. Grow up. If you want to argue that if there is an exploit, and everybody knows how to do it, so the playing field is level, fine. But not everybody wants to, and very few people want to play a game where somebody can snipe you with impunity because they have made themselves invincible by going off the board.
I am going to make an account with the name KING SP and I'm going to make a clan with a tag of [FUC].I am going to see how long it will take for someone to report me.This is just stupid. This isn't Barney Sing-A-Long.
Ok now I'm worried, you see my surname is coon and my username is a play on that (it's a nickname I've had since I was a kid) I'm now worried I might get banned because of this, is there a way to change your username (I'd look but my PS3 is buried at the mo why I re-decorate) I already can't log onto there thisisliving.tv website and my sis couldn't donate to a charity online last week because of this, it's getting abit bad when people start banning your surname without looking first.
and immature. Not to mention, what a stupid name to start with. "ivedoneyourmom"? WTF is that. Thats lame.
If you Lag, Your Cheating. If you Glitch, Your Cheating. If you do anything the game is not suppose to do, your Cheating other players.! And for What, to be cool with your friends! Because you can't really play very well ! All of you who cheat, just for fun, are taking away people who want to play. You show who you really are! Name's I agree should be not messed with.. as brought up it is a (M) game.
why cant they do this with Call of Duty 3 man i hate the team killers.
I didn't say that was an exploit I was in favor for. I specifically said it was a horrendous error on the developer. Your analogies are completely wrong in attacking my argument, you are trying to say I would justify rape and robbery. I don't even see how you are trying to connect those dots to what I am specifically saying. The exploit I am referring to, the "Wall Slash," is no way similiar to the error on the developers with those off the map sniping. But alas, the incompetence on the developer's part is to blame because if you leave such a hole in your game, you are to expect people to abuse that (especially if using it once is horrible enough). Little Timmy (or the average mental age of some gamers with idiotic names) won't think twice that it is unfair because the game allows him to do that. To actually try and say someone is being raped because of the way they dressed is similiar to someone using this exploit is just completely ignorant. If anything, the analogy would work on the banning of names. Someone gets banned for their personal choice of a name, their freedom of expression and speech, of a M rated game no less. Regardless of immature names, they have ever right to name themselves whatever they want to name themselves. Just like a woman has every right to dress anyway she wants and should not have to be worried about being judged or raped. Or in the name policy....banned. Your analogy of the bank is a little more on target the more I think about it and see where your coming from. Let's say the individual gets away, or even if they do not get away and are later caught. Someone is responsible for leaving that money around, and you can be sure they are being dealt with cause no bank just goes, OOPSIES! Someone loses their job, and rest assure it's on the bank's side. Obviously what you are contesting is that they should be banned for taking such an opportunist scheme, and that is by all means your own opinion. I personally feel that they shouldn't be banned because an error like that shouldn't exist in the first place, and now that it is know, why isn't it being dealt with immediately? It's great they are working on a patch, but till then, take a break from the game since obviously the developers are not done with it. In the analogy you so cleverly tried to use against me, obviously that is a crime and he should be dealt with, but again, I wouldn't care if he took all that money from my own bank. It's the bank's responsibility and I know my money is safe thanks to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) which covers all customers up to 100,000 dollars. So I would not only get my money back, but I know not to bank with such an incompetent bank. Feel free to lash out at me, I understand your view point and that sucks that people are doing that. It's aggravating too if they think they have any real skill from that. But I just don't see how a player should be banned when clearly the developers didn't test their game well enough.
LMAO!!!!
