Insomniac Games honchos talk of Resistance: Fall of Man Map packs |
You've heard it straight from the horse's mouth that Resistance: Fall of Man would have more content in the coming weeks. Now, going over IGN, we found a short interview with Insomniac Games honchos - Eric Ellis (Multiplayer Team Lead), Peter Kao (Gameplay programmer), and Ted Price (teh CEO). They basically talked about new patches and a map pack which is set to dawn upon us in months.Peter talked about the new modes added in the March update - Team Conversion and Assault. He says that Team Conversion is "the same game mechanic as Conversion except that you play as a team. Both teams start human and have one life on each side."
Assault, on the other hand, is a mode "based around the concept of attrition; wearing down an opponent's defenses before destroying their base". Eric then divulged the adjustments being made for the March patch. He says:
Spectators can now join custom games and observe from the player POV and use a free-roam camera. We've made fixes for just about every glitch or collision hole in the game. We've made matchmaking even quicker and more reliable. We've brought back the old radar as a new custom game option for our nostalgic players. We've done some small tweaking to the weapons to improve balance even further.
Now, on to the much awaited May map update. Again, here what Ellis said:
We are planning an update that enables worldwide play and that will allow for the map pack to be purchased and downloaded from within the game. Our matchmaker and custom game filtering will continue to make it easy for players to find matches in ranked and unranked games. Map pack players will just be able to enjoy a wider selection of playing fields in both.
The two new maps, as further explained by Ted Price, are both set in England. One is set in Westmorland the other in Camborn. The Westmorland map "is very open and because of the dominance of Chimeran architecture feels different than just about all of the maps we released with the packaged game". The Camborn map is a standout because "it's got both above-ground and subterranean combat. This creates a very different feel especially during team-based games." All multiplayer game types are available for both maps and you must have RFOM to play them.
These new maps' storyline is an extension of the backstory presented in the RFOM website. And as for the awaited news about Resitance: Fall ofMan 2, Price said:
It's great to know that people are already excited for a sequel but it's far too early for us to be talking about one. As you know, throughout Resistance's development I have consistently said that Resistance: Fall of Man is the first chapter in a larger story. But, of course, people have taken that to mean that we're working on a sequel right now -- something I don't believe I've confirmed or denied.

How about a keyboard and mouse support?
is the new map Camborn in cornwall uk
No it isn't Camborn or even Camborne. The mill says it's going to be Mousehole.
ouch, i spelled my own name wrong
do we get to drive stuff?
He said the Map Packs had to be purchased!
Thats not good.........
Think of it this way - the Gears of War map pack may have been free, but really it's not when you have to pay $50 a year for the 360 online service. Our PSN service is free, so a few dollars here and there is hardly that negative when compared to having to pay $50 a year for the life of your 360 system.
A keyboard and mouse will never happen. Wana know why? Cos 80% of players wouldnt buy a set for their ps3, and those 80% will get pissed off knowing that 20% have an advantage with the mouse and keyboard vs their controller.
Simply put, everyone with a controller evens the playing field.
