Insomniac crew talks about Resistance 2 visuals and gameplay |
Ó
The Chimera - your typical evil, but super advanced extraterrestrials -
have invaded Europe. It's up to you and Sgt. Nathan Hale to save the
world from utter destruction and intergalactic colonization. Luckily,
the Resistance 2 crew at Insomniac games tells us a little more than all that. The graphics are stunning - environment details and creature mechanics were fine-tuned to near perfection, with the Leviathan sitting as the centerpiece.
"The Leviathan is certainly the largest moving object we attempted in Resistance 2," said Insomniac CEO Ted Price. "To achieve the realistic, graphic look required a great deal of planning, together with high-resolution detail and parallax maps to accentuate the smaller details relative to the larger details of the surrounding city." The smoke, dust particles, splattering blood, and the smallest of debris have been given astonishing detail.
Some characters from the first Resistance will be joining the action to help beat the new monsters that'll come out in Resistance 2. "The Sentinels were all new, in fact most of the enemies were all new," said senior character artist Samuel Sharit. "We started from the ground up on this reprise and made a lot of new challenging opponents."
As for the weapons, the Magnum and the Marksman will be joining old favorites such as Carbine and Bullseye. With tougher baddies on the loose, the extra firepower will be most welcome.

this game will be ripped away from the stores...
Busy finish of the 1st one again, just to get back in the story. Rumour has it Nate dies in RFOM 2.
this games been out for a while :s
i bauhgt it like last week
The game is sick. It's also *****ing hard toward the middle and certainly the end. I did play through it on Difficult and then Superhuman though, so I'm not sure what it is like on Normal difficulty.
Awesome graphics, intense firefights and terrific enemy AI. The Chimera do not mess around in this game. Man, when you're without any support and you have to take down two Titans with no LAARK, and little to no cover? It's insane.
Also, the Leviathan battle was nice, but not as cool as I had hoped.
This is a great step forward for the PS3 in terms of FPS games, at least until Killzone (hopefully) wipes the floor with all other FPSs. Unfortunatley it will be overshadowed by the thousands of 1.9 million xbots (I leave that last .1 million who I assume still have souls left) in the world who bought Gears 2 (not saying it's a bad game, just that everyone and their dog bought Gears as a blind following on a game that completely recycled an old system without adding anything groundbreakingl y new. Yet it's still exalted...just like Halo.)
psnID: Arnagrim
Hit me up, I'm looking for more people to play with.
I just beat Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2. Resistance was above average but it was just like the first one and Resistance 1 wasnt groundbreaking either. They both play like every other FPS out there. GOW 2 was a lot more fun and there are a larger variety of enemies in the game. Plus Horde mode is a ton of fun. Both games had some lame parts like in Resistance 2 when you have to run away from the Swarm of bugs or pretty much all of the vehicle levels in GOW 2.
TheFinalHero is a hypocrite for calling people xbots when he is obviously sucking Sonys d***. It is sad that he has to look for friends to play with on QJ
I lol at ur fanboyism. Hypocrite? Look in the mirror and you'll spot a big one.
your both right in a way, I agree Resistance was a great game, just beat 2 and kind of saw it coming but didn't at the same time, anyway Gears, never really got into it but they did a great job refining RE4's formula, while Resistance is like any FPS out there, its pacing is much better than most and the AI and weapons make up for its faults, and for Gears its cover system is definately well done and the third person perspective is a nice change of pace, what I'm trying to say is they both are great games but they are both shooters and the formula is getting old...
people compare resistance 2 to Gears 2 all the time, and you know what... they are DIFFERENT TYPES of games. just because they are both listed as a FPS doesn't mean they are the same. Halo, Metroid, and COD are FPS games as well, but fall into 3 different categories. they are both good games, now leave it at that. Now as far as the article is concerned, i am glad they went mostly on just making the game bigger, vs a complete overhaul. Cant wait til i have time to pick it up and start playing
I said both games had their faults but that I liked GOW 2 better. My comment was directed at Thefinalhero for being an obnoxious Sony fanboy who cant appreciate anything not made by Sony. Ultrashot should actually make an intelligent comment about the games before his sorry ass just insults people. Go f*** yourself.
"What the hell is so groundbreaking about GOW 2?"
