Celebrating the first anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Konami announced the details for the 2009 Metal Gear Online Tournament. There's gonna be a limited number of players that they'll let into the tourney, so read up and find out how you can join.

Teams will go head-to-head in Team Deathmatch mode, winners will go up the bracket until one is left standing. Each player must have the SCENE Expansion Pack to participate.

How to register:
  1. Log into MGO with the character you wish to enter into the Tournament (starting June 23rd) - but hurry, only a limited number of players can participate
  2. Go to Lobby Select and choose Tournament Registration
  3. On the Lobby Screen select one of the 4 tournament lobbies to register (i.e. US TOURNEY 1, US TOURNEY 2, etc.)
  4. Select either Join Team (pick a team off the list to join), Create Team and Submit Entry (set up the team name and password), or Solo Entry (assigned to a random team)

Prizes and other contest specifics will be announced at a later date, so be on the lookout for updates.

MGO is not the multiplayer part of MGS4.

MGS4 and MGO are 2 completely different games. You don't need MGS4 to play MGO and MGO can be bought as a stand alone game.

This is why I was am questioning cloud505's comment.

Equivalent to the PC gaming world, MGO is to MGS4 what Counter-Strike (1.6/Source) is to Half-Life (1/2).
