Infinity Ward not doing Call of Duty 5?

Will Infinity Ward be taking another break from the Call of Duty franchise? That's one of the questions floating around in fans' heads as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) gears up for its release later this year.

Australian video game news website Gameplayer recently had the chance to talk to Infinity Ward's Grant Collier at this week's Activate Asia 2007 conference. According to Gameplayer, Collier was nonchalant when asked about Call of Duty 5 as he didn't think Infinity Ward would be making it.

If so, development tasks for Call of Duty 5 would probably fall once again to Treyarch, the studio that stood in for Infinity Ward for Call of Duty 3 (PS3, Xbox 360). Activision's drive to have a Call of Duty title on shelves every Christmas prompted the need to bring in a different developer for Call of Duty 3.

While the Treyarch entry has been generally labelled as inferior compared to the ones by Infinity Ward, Collier noted that he had high respect for the studio, who managed to churn out what he sees is a good game in only eight months.

After playing the beta, I'm sure I'll still be playing CoD4 by the time 5 is out. This is my favorite CoD yet

Treyarch is decent, but they just can't make CoD like Infinity Ward. I'll give 5 a rent this time around if it is made by them, since I really didn't like 3

Yes Kingofdaberbz is right. There's 2 COD studios that work on alternate versions of the game. This allows them to release each version of the series closer together. COD5 would already be in development and it'll be release in a year and 1/2. And once Infinity Ward has finished COD4, they start on COD6 and that'll be released in 3 years.
