inFamous Director: PlayStation 3 does everything you want

Infamous dev: PS3 can do 'everything you want' - Image 1Nate Fox, game director of inFamous, praised the PlayStation 3 at the Leipzig Games Convention, saying that it can do "everything you want."

Maybe not make you a sandwich, but he was talking about the console's graphic capabilities. Speaking at the Leipzig Games Convention, Fox reveals more details on inFamous, praising the PS3 while he's at it:

It's great to have that much more detail in the world. You have a lot more characters running around, particle effects. Everything you want, more, more, more, the hardware can take it. I think you can see it. The graphic quality of the game is really, really strong.

I don't think the PlayStation 3's power was ever in any doubt though. It's developing games for that much power that's a kick in the patootie. Has anyone kept count on how many games have been delayed because devs have a hard time developing for the console? Still, once devs pull it off, the payoff is big time. As Fox said, "it's great to have that much more detail."

Though I still wish it could make me a sandwich.

» Everything really?

Well then how come GTA and who knows how many other games don't run at 1080p? Because while the cell processor may be awesome they only but in 256mb or RAM! The damn thing can't hold half of what it needs to for some games. It's a great system, but if they had just thrown in an extra few bucks for more RAM it would be so much better. I mean seriously the Xbox 360 has 2x the RAM of the PS3 which is why it runs GTA at a higher resolution.

Well if nothing else a few great games come out for the PS3, and it is a GREAT media device. If you haven't set it and your computer up to stream media you don't know what you're missing. Its sooo easy, and its just awesome to be able to watch whatever video I want from my PC on my 32" HDTV.

» Interesting comment

I learned something new everyday.

Shame that you cant just install some external RAMs or something. Surprisingly it loads game quite fast, but then with no background programes I guess its only average. But I still love my PS3 though

Your entitled to your opinion and i respect that, but you need to get some facts right. The PS3 does have 512 mb of ram just like the 360 does. The only difference is the 360 has shared ram allowing the dev's to use any amount of the 512 for video processing, while the PS3's ram is divided 256 for the Video and the other 256 i believe is cell related(correct me if I'm wrong), but overall both systems have 512 mb of ram. They just use it differently.

» PS3...

Has 512 RAM. 256 MB of XDR main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX and the RSX can use up to 224 MB from the system RAM, for a total of 480 MB RAM via the Cell.

» actually...

360 has 512 MB of shared ram

PS3 has 256 MB of dedicated video ram and 256 MB of shared ram

According to information released BEFORE PS3 came out, PS3s GPU can use all 512 MB of ram. Why retards keep saying 360 has more ram is beyond me, 256+256+512.

And dedicated is better than shared

» ps3 ftw

all the more reason to love the ps3. there was an article on here yesterday on how consoles or worse off that PC's or w/e it was and i commented that i love my ps3 way more than my labtop, at least gaming wise. and that was proven last. wwith the ps3 they have FW updates, and pcs u just get to keep buyn new sh*t. so i bought spore last night and its fun an all but when it was done installing it said i had an old video card or something, and I JUST BOUGHT this labtop a month ago what BS that i need to go out an DL a new driver or get new hardware, when with the ps3 the onry updating thats needed comes in FW, no having to go out and buy new hardware for it

» Forget streaming

Streaming is old news. Put the content on the HDD. I'm about to put a 500GB HDD in my PS3 and stick 40 HD films on it which will only take up around 250GB of space. Loads of space for music, photo's game saves and data and loads of SD content.

First off, PS3 does have 512 MB of RAM. You fail for talking out of your ass. It just splits it up into two pieces of 256mb. One for the operating system and the other solely for games.

The reason why some games dont run at 1080p NATIVE (not general resolution, im talking 1080p right off the bat) is because devs have just started working with the system. If I'm correct, this was just Rockstar's first game on PS3. You really expected them to master the system already?

NO devs have mastered the PS3 yet. Even Uncharted, as beautiful as it looks, only used less than half the PS3's "true" power. Get the facts in your head before you come here and BAW.

» Hm...

Let me ask you something since when does a 256mb video card and 256mb of main RAM get added together to say total RAM? Never. I was talking about the amount of RAM available to the processor not the video card. When your looking at a computer you don't go "Oh its got 2gb of RAM and a 512mb video card so its got 2.5gb RAM!" now do you?

by Darkshneider - 2008-09-09 10:49
» So

360 has 512 MB of RAM, but it's shared. Meaning that it can be a bi-sexual and go both ways (GPU or CPU)? If you think about it, both systems have the same amount of RAM, both are shared between CPU and GPU, except the fact that PS3 uses XDR RAM which is faster than GDDR.

the 360 gets so hot u could prolly heat up ur hot cocoa on 1 of those...

» Let Me Clear It Up For You.

The PS3s RAM is 12x faster of that of a PC with 4-8 GB of RAM.

» inFAMOUS>GTAIV

GTAIV runs at 1080p or less. It says so on the game box. (below isnt the final boxart but its good enough)

http://www.vgboxart.com/viewfullbox.php?boxid=9288&boxloc=%2Fboxes%2FPS3%2F9288_grand_theft_auto_4-v4-orig.jpg

InFAMOUS has better graphics than GTAIV, fom what I've seen in HD videos of it. GTAIV was rushed out in an incomplete state in order to shift PS3 & 360 consoles sooner.

» geeks

Since you know so much, Why arn't you are developer? Its always geeks who find information, read it and act as if they are awesome on the net. Stop trying to say ps3/360 are better as sony/ms are not paying you at all for your useless comments.
