In-game ads - Image 1

In-game advertising giant IGA Worldwide has signed a deal with Activision Publishing to bring in-game ads to a bunch of titles slated for release on the Sony PlayStation 3 console.

If you guys remember, Sony announced earlier this year that they would be opening up the PS3 to in-game ads. Well, the ads are ready, and they've found a home: Guitar Hero: World Tour (Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii).

The PS3 version of the game will be the first result of the multi-year IGA-Activision deal. According to the announcement, the ads will be integrated into the titles "in a contextually relevant way". They'll be dynamic too, so they can be changed in real time.

The press release again spouted the "increase the realism" aspect that in-game ads are supposed to have, but then again, that's a pretty subjective thing. What's realistic for one person may be downright annoying to another. Well, as long as they don't distract us gamers too much, we could probably live with them.

» Won't even see them.

In game advertising in Guitar Hero? Unless the ad's are plastered all over the fret/drum boards I doubt I'll ever see them. Waste of the advertisers money if you ask me but at least the ads will suit the context of the game.

As long as this means cheaper games, slap an ad or 2 in there.

Just don't let it get as severe as most websites lately, more banners than actuall content on those places.

» Oh yay

I daresay the games *better* be cheaper. Paying £70-100 for a game should be enough, instead of having to view stupid advertisements throughout the game you worked hard to pay for. If the prices do not drop I daresay there will be some harsh words from gamers =-P

Madden 09 already has this. So EA already has this setup for their sports games. inbetween plays theres a info box, that at one time had an add for the bluray for Transformers. And now the box has a pic for the new "Eagle eye" movie thats out right now. Never botherd me at all.
