Yesterday we reported about some framerate issues dogging the PS3 version of id Software's upcoming multiplatform title, Rage.

As id puts it, word of the framerate issue -- which had the game running at 20 to 30 FPS on the PS3 compared to a smooth 60 on Xbox 360 and PC -- caused "quite a ruckus." Now they've posted this follow-up on the official Rage Twitter:

Like I said in yesterday's article, we still have a long way to go until Rage launches, so there's still time for id to work their magic and bring the PS3 version's framerate up.

In your other article it says that the ps3 version would run at 35 to 30 fps not 30 to 25 fps

» Hmm.

Maybe they're using Metric FPS and no the American Standard FPS. I'm not sure how the conversion works out. hurr hurr

» FPS

Dude, 20 FPS is pretty low... 30 is very much acceptable so long as it's steady, but if it's really going to bounce between 20 and 30 all the time, you're going to be able to notice the slowdown.

All because the morons keep PORTING Xbox 360 games. WTF? The PS3 is more powerful, first make the PS3 version then port for the 360 and the other weak platforms.

» Meh.

Until they say that it is going to be the SAME Rage experience on every console, then I will not care.

» Its not about the most powerful hardware.

Its more about the ease of use. Sure the PS3 is a great piece of hardware and somewhat more powerful, but a Windows environment is home base for id. They chose not to spend the money on building the Tech 5 engine from the ground up on the PS3 because they aren't in a position to make as much return on their investment. Think about it, if you focus on windows, you have a console with a larger installed user base, and also a large market of PC users. If they coded it for the PS3 then they'd be doing just as much work, if not more, for less results/money. Its about business, not effort.

Would you mow a 500sq/ft lawn for the same price as a 750sq/ft lawn? So they may be morons, but at the end of the day, they'll be the morons with the money.

» Shoddy reporting

Did Qj evan read the article in edge or did Microsoft press office supply you with it? The second sentance of the interview says "we expect this to be 60Hz on every supported platform" says John Carmack. I find the way this been reported very shoddy and I hope on future you do your homework and not just rely on microsoft for your articles.

60Hz does not mean 60FPS. And you mispelt 'even'.

I still say that multi-disc in this type of game is ridiculous. But hey if the 360 version is better then I'll get it for the 360. Of course, I won't be getting this game until I see reviews. To me this game sort of spell repetitive and nothing new with an okay storyline. This game might be worth a try though.

I don't care at all about the console versions. id games belong to the PC. ;)

» Lazy developer

Some developers like to state that they "can't" get games running as good on one system as the other. That's a sign of a shi tty developer

If it's being developed for PC at the time of 360 and PS3 it's being developed first on those systems, while the information is coded to the PS3 after, since it's the harder system to code for. id is being lazy on coding the PS3 version.

So if you were a cook (developer) and i gave you an egg and a brick and said "i want you to make me two identical omlets" and you couldn't make an omlet out of the brick it would somehow be your fault? I don't think so. PS3 is the brick btw

» @ TheRockness

Well said, though it is a little disappointing we're not seeing things pushed more. If the PS3 did have games coming out that looked better and ran faster then the 360, it would create more competition. I was really hopeful for a new GPU/CPU for the 360's being released in 2010 so games start moving forward again. The platforms have really stagnated at the moment. Maybe like it's been said we don't need more graphics, processing power or RAM, gamers want gameplay.

» Sublime that's a little unfair

Bricks are much more useful.

Just kidding guys, the PS3 is a great machine, Sony need to fix their dev tools for developers. I've been saying this for the last 2 years I've been flamed continuously for it too. :)

If they make the PS3 as easy to work with as the 360 I'm sure they could beat it. At the moment we've seen promise followed by failure continuously from various multi platform titles, most recent one being Ghost Busters.
