With the PS3's European release this March 23 getting closer and closer, it seems that Sony is finally starting to round off their plans on how exactly they will be celebrating this moment, and most importantly, with whom.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, they have just confirmed that Sony has taken up the London-based retail chain HMV to be their official retail partner for the PS3 launch. However, there are also unconfirmed reports floating about which say that because of this partnership, a special midnight launch at their HMV's main Oxford Street branch is being cooked up.

On the other hand, HMV's games chief Tim Ellis claims that "there are no confirmed plans just yet with Sony regarding the launch of PS3." Awww...

Despite this lack of confirmation for that bit about a special event, the possibility of this happening isn't actually that far off. After all, with everyone expecting Sony to divulge more details about the lauch within the coming week, it may just be that they're saving the best for last. Also, HMV is a prime candidate for holding such an event as they already have a history of organizing launches, with the latest one to their list being the release of WoW's latest expansion, The Burning Crusade.
