Hirai: PS3 will hold its own against lower-priced consoles |

Sony has stated before that they won't be giving their PlayStation 3 console a price cut, but president Kazuo Hirai has expressed confidence that the console will still hold its own against its lower-priced rivals.
"When you really compare apples to apples, then I think we have a very good value proposition," he told the Financial Times, pointing out the PS3's hard drive and Blu-ray movies as advantages over its rival consoles.
Hirai also told the FT that despite the economic slump, the video game industry won't be affected too much. “As long as we can generate excitement, then we will be less affected than other industries,” said Hirai. Sony's big hitters for the holiday season include Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet.

Now that all the JRPGs are popping on the xbox 360, I'll have to hope Level 5 will continue developping on the ps3 only (and since they made marvellous JRPG, I hope it's still gonna be the case for this one... with a cool bundle in japan, they could sell tons of ps3 with this in the holidays, especially with a price drop, this would kill! .. well, for japan).
I'm still sad. I don't want an xbox 360, but if the square-enix games are not ported, I'll buy one next year, around summer (I'd live at least the annoncement of a port, or something..)
will all the feature it is offering it is so far a fair price (imo) The lost of PS2 support is a big draw back but since I still got a PS2 I can deal with that. I am ready to get one... just the whole gloom of economy holding me back since I just lost about 10k in the stock market... not exactly the perfect mood here to spend 399 on a console =(
I own a 360 and would really like a ps3 but the ps3 is losing too many exclusives.
and to be honest i think this guy is wrong, the ps3 does need a price cut.. when the 360 starts outselling the ps3 in its home country you know theres something wrong
and now with tekken 6 BR for the 360 there's almost no point for me to get a ps3, the only games left i wana play are god of war 3, Gran turismo 5 and shadow of the colossus 2 (whenever that comes out)
I LOVE my PS3, but if you think that the PS3 will hold its own against Wii and 360 pricecuts you are being delusional.
The 360 has a HUGE following, and so does the Wii. Ignoring those facts makes me scared that SONY may have lost it!
And please remember that with the slumping economy many people will be faced with tough choices and believe me, the PS3 is not a necessary good. When faced with the choice between a 360 and a PS3 during harsh economic times, most people will choose the 360 because it's cheaper.
Like I said, I love the PS3 and it's the only console that I own, but let's not be idiots and ignore that there is a console war going on.
The PS3 should at least make smarter statements. If you tell the consumer that the console will not get a price cut, they WILL be disillusioned. Best to just SHUT UP or lower the price by

agree with you, the PS3 really needs a pricecut. Hopefully the new 45 nm CPUs and GPUs lead to lower prices.
R2 and LBP are the big games on holiday season??? what about Socom which im picking up in one hour. It comes with a 50 dollar Headset which is HQ.

but only if the likes of gamestation, etc starts to get rid of the morons they employ that are harassing the ps3 owners for not owning a 360 like i had to endure a week or two ago!!
That's funny! When I was at gamestop reserving my copy of LBP and the guy behind the counter asked me if I owned a 360.
I told him I'm not interested in any other game reservations. That ended that conversation.
