High priced PS3 bundles puts buyers off

PS3New internet website NotifyWire (they track online items to tell you when they are in stock to prevent you having to search for them; great if you're looking for a new PS3) has said that some online retailers selling high-priced PS3 bundles with software and hardware which buyers may not necessarily want are finding themselves having a surplus of consoles. Nobody likes to pay over the odds for something which you don't want, even for something as prestigious as a PS3.

Ian Drake, president of NotifyWire said "I think we're already at the point where people won't pay a premium for the console or be forced into buying bundles." Auction site eBay has profited by the release of next generation consoles this year, with the Wii and PS3 selling for double or triple their retail prices as we speak, much like the Xbox 360 did last year; but Drake seems to think that people are becoming tired of buying from eBay, losing confidence in a marketplace where consoles sell for such a large price.

"I think people are tired of being gouged on eBay, and services like NotifyWire.com are making it easier for the everyday person to buy the PlayStation 3 online from a retailer they know and trust," he said.

So which do you pick - a US$ 1000 PS3 console from eBay or a US$ 1000 bundle (seven PS3 games, an extra SIXAXIS controller and a 2GB memory stick) from some trusted retailers? The PS3 is in high demand and if you want one really badly you should grab one whilst you can, there's nothing wrong with shopping around larger retailers for large bundles which may still be in stock due to their extensive price tag. If you aren't successful in getting a one dollar PS3 and have US$ 1000 to spend then it's worth considering.

# Will the PlayStation 3 game system rescue Sony?Guest 2006-12-20 02:26
This seems to be a current hot topic; I just read an article on ps3blog.net on exactly this issue and I have just put up an article on my own fansite called Will the PlayStation 3 game system rescue Sony? at http://www.ps3l33t.com

I think the Sony name and the Playstation brand will suprise them all, though.

The PS2 rescued sony. The PS3 is pulling it under and if there wasn't money still coming in from PS2 sales and games, the gaming division would be bankrupt.

You should have probably checked the prices on ebay before just posting what you guessed they might cost from your head .. These are selling for near retail including below.. seems that demand is very low for ps3's at gouging prices since about a week after release and not even so high at retail price.

PS3 release has been an extreme dud compared to XB360 or wii

Personally, the price for just the PS3 alone is too expensive for me :-S. I mean I figured they were going to offer the hard drive separate like they did the PS2. I mean, all games for the PS3 don't necessitate a hard drive....do they :-S?

Maybe they should come out with some type of core package where the hard drive is bought separately. But, that more than likely won't happen until they can meet the demand :-S.

common sense, hows the view from inside your own arse???

Sony is going to do just fine this gen. Let me spare you the suspense.

As for the bundles, yeah they suck. All I want is the $600 console, Madden, RFOM, and another controller. Just sell me that!!!!

Sony does not need rescuing...

I have been trying to get one at retail price at local stores since the launch - they are definately not abundant - and as soon as they get to the stores the employees snatch them up before their customers can. It's sad but true.

PS2 saved Sony from the PSX... the greatest RPG console to date. Sony has been doing great since PSX.

If your going to judge the PS3s popularity with the ebay auction your looking at it the wrong way.

When the news was filled with PS3s selling on ebay for thousands of dollars everyone thought they could tap into this gold mine.

Ebay is now oversaturated with PS3s because of all these non-gamers buying PS3s just to sell them. People are stilling buying them to sell even. I found two people last sunday buying PS3s to sell on ebay.

It's not the fact that the PS3 is a dud, but the fact that the market is oversaturated, and this is causing a price drop.

That is why that comparison isn't the most accurate one to make.

no kidding I just want my PS3, Resistance, and 2nd controller. I'll get all the other games in the next few months when they get released (Assassin's Creed, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword)

Well with this the last week of Xmas shopping, im really shocked that there are still alot of unsold PS3s on ebay. And most of them are selling for retail, or less. And if you have a high reserve, i doubt you will ever sell. I disagree with the above poster (Spector). This IMHO is a clear sign that demand for the ps3 is just not there. Sure ebay is saturated with PS3 this year, but it was also saturated with 360s last year. And those still sold for 2 or 3 times retail, and there was way more supply in the market.

There weren't nearly as many 360s on Ebay due to the fact it wasn't all over the news about the huge prices on ebay like the PS3.

Anyone with half a brain can see the ebay market is over saturated and that's why the PS3s are going for cheaper, and they aren't going for under retail.

At all the stores PS3s are stilling flying off the shelves and hard to find, so your point is invalid.
