Ssnakes (thanks!) points us to a Kotaku sit-down with Hideo Kojima at the GO3 conference - oh, wait, did we just hear the sound of the thousand nations of the PS3 blog snapping to attention? Long story short: Hideo Kojima talks about Metal Gear Solid 4 (yay!). And why it's geared towards the PS3 (and nothing but). And what happens after MGS4. (Nothing about edible koalas, though).
To Kojima (and he really did say this), PS3 is like the movie theater: a "little bit high-priced" but demands "high quality as well." Xbox 360 is like DVD: also demands high quality, but "you need more variations." And the Wii is almost like "a TV channel, because every game you have it with your family." In another comparison, he compares the three consoles to different dinners: different offerings at different price scales.
Therefore, and quoting Kojima's words to Kotaku, "like I said, MGS4 is aimed for the movie theater,, it's aimed for the PS3, so the game's scenario and graphics need this theater-type hardware." That squashes that rumor, at least as far as Kojima is concerned.
His thoughts on multiplatform: "It's when a producer has a game that can work on a 'DVD level' that a game will go multiplatform." Let's not get into any mudslinging here, readers: Kojima is stating his opinion as a producer of his own games, and what he wants to get out of them. "I think it's up to each project, and the individual producer... if they want to take it multiplatform, they will." But Kojima wants much from MGS4, hence, using the PS3 as his target.
Moving on, drama is what this isn't about. After MGS4, what then? Will MGS continue? Yes, but... "Well, actually it's really up to the users, it's up to them to decide." But if the cry goes up "KOJIMA FOR MGS5!!!", you might want to reevaluate your options:
If users want more Metal Gear, then I will probably step up as producer, like the James Bond series does... That way I can have new, upcoming directors making MGS while I oversee the project, and then perhaps I can move onto something new.
That might disappoint some who really want to see Kojima at the helm of anything Metal Gear, but he has said this is the last Metal Gear he'll ever make, and to be honest, he does need the break (and Portable Ops was great, right?). Although when we look at it, Raiden needs an MGS5; it's been a long time since he's felt any main-character love.

yeah, xbox360 are 'straight to dvd' releases and wii are 'straight to telly' ... this means x360 gets 'alladin 2 - the return of jafar', wii gets ' columbo and the invisible woman' and ps3 gets 'spiderman 3' ... hehehe. although i would rather watch columbo tbh

Its a good thing Kojima said this cause microsoft talks a whole bunch of trash. I like xbox 360, they're going the right direction by adding a variety of games (although there's still alot of fps), but it pisses me off that microsoft dismisses anything and everything that the ps3 has.
Lets see how certain people here, websites and other forms of media try to spin this....
While the PS3 is great in every thing it does and all Microsoft is the competition and even if the PS3 cures cancer some day MS will simply ignore it because THEY ARE THE COMPETITION in other words they cannot say anything good about each other

Although kinda kewl MGSPO on the PSP it's graphics are the poorest shyti I've ever seen. It seems that they did this game on the rush. Firstable when you grab soldier their head and limbs sink through walls and objects. WTF?? Then the truck wheels are an hexagon!!!! For CHRIST SAKE!! Can't you do ROUND wheel? Look at LocoRoco how the flowing objects interact and how the loco bounces!!! This alone are grounds to ask for money back. Also when you shoot around it doesn't leave debris like Ghost In the Shell.

MGS 3 was the first MGS game i played and it was amazing.. thats when i started to look up other MGS games, but for me MGS 3 was the best...

um yea lets make fun of mgs games when although they may be beatable wihout cut scenes within 2-3 hours the actual games take atleast 10-20 hours while on the other hand geow gameplay plus cut scenees can also take you at most 3-4 hours..
If MGS4 were announced as multiplat, people would come on here and say "sweet! MGS was the only reason I would have bought a PS3, but now I can just get it for the XBOX!" or whatever, but now people are saying it's not all that great. But I guess this kinda thing is to be expected.

GoW 3 to 4 hours? pfft, I love the game but the story was more like 1 1\2 maybe less. MGS4 will actually be long with the main story all the things to collect, and Snake vs. Monkey,Snake Tales things like that will probably be in there too.

Graphically that game is one of the best looking games on the psp, only Syphon Filter has better graphics IMO. And if you're basing your opinion on graphics alone then you should be shot.
They must make one for Playstation 3! Man the cell processor would make it badass! It is made for fast nonstop action games like that with 1000 enemies on screen at once!
you must suck balls at gewow to say its an 11 hour game i beat it in 2 days and i got it on launch and played hard core 1st time and i just played it about 2 hours a day for 2 days and i thought maybe if i beat evel 5 they will give me an extra level or 2 well i was wrong it ended

I'm totally stoked that Hideo Kojima wants to keep MGS4 on the PS3, but Konami might have an upperhand in the matter.
Unless Konami and Sony have an agreement, and/or that MGS4 is too large for the DVD format, there's always still the chance that it can be ported to the Wii or X360 after a while.
Anyways, I'm just glad Sony still has one of their 'Big Sellers', and I'm even happier to see Snake in 'Smash Brothers' =D
MSG4 will never ever ever be ported to the wii the only MGS game that could would be MGS:PO... graphics engines are about the same...
How many times am I gonna hear that this is Kojima's last MGS game, he said that after solid on the PSone, then came MGS2 on PS2, which he said would be the last, then came 3 and now 4.
I own a PS3 and a 360 and have no interest in this game, 2 and 3 were terrible, the storylines were strange and over-long(made no sense) and the gameplay was boring and or irritating to say the least. No flow to the play at all. Give me Heavenly Sword above this anyday. I still think God Of War and ICO/Shadow put these games to shame in all departments.

If you have no interest in this game, then why did you read the post it the first place. The story lines where complex but amazing if you can understand them, no other game has bigger messages than MGS carries across. If you like things like God of War which has a storyline that most people could decipher (like a childs fairytale glammed up) and just want an excuse to kill stuff then thats cool, but konami have made numerous games like that, and theres even a mini game in MGS3 where you can do that.
the MGS series never died buddy it is still one of the greatest story lines in video games today. the 3 best in my opinion: Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, and Final Fantasy 7...even though FF7 was ruined when details were changed in advent children and such, nerds got obssessed with cosplay, they gave sephiroth a single black wing which never existed...and all these anime nerds think that the movie is so great but dont even understand a 10th of it because they havnt ever played the game...anyh0oo, i think Versus XIII will be great though.
Hideo isn't in charge of Konami. MGS4 coming to the 360 is always a possibility. MGS2 came to the XBOX even though Hideo said it was staying PS2 exclusive.

I don't care if MGS3 went to XBOX, I have MGS3 substence on my PS2. With the right offer from MS, it can always happen. It has happened so many times already with PS3 exclusives it really wouldn't suprise me.
I can't even hear my 360's drive over my surround sound, and all my games are still perfectly unscratched.

Mgs4 isn't going to 360 but final fantasy probably will. Right now, the ps3 is ***** i have Resistance and Nba 2k7 and they're boring, 360 is good right now but it didn't get good until just the end of last year. Soon, when the ps3 gets more games and fixes its online it will be better
Kojima Productions is mostly in charge of the game they decide to port it or not! Konami is just paying for the production costs and all that.

Xbox 360 can't handle FFXIII due to the fact it can't multitask on the graphics. The graphics are to be realtime rendered graphics that match that of prerendered CGI graphics (such as Advent Children and cutscenes from FF7: Dirge of Cerebeus). Don't believe me? Wikipedia it and look under "White Engine" (the graphics engine it uses).

It is not true that a dvd cannot handle mgs4, the compressing techniques are advanced enough,look at oblivion it fit on a dvd9 and there is probably more content in that game than there will be on mgs4. It is also false that the xbox 360 cannot handle the graphical multitasking , the gpu on the 360 is actualy better than the one on the ps3, is is more advanced in pixel shades and textural effects. What kojiama said about the theatre and dvd is ridiculus and based on no facts, its just a marketing thing for sony because he has alot of influence

He is smarter than you, and he knows more about making games on the Xbox 360 than you, you dumb *****! Unless Sony is paying Kojima prod. or Konami to keep it exclusive.(Which is certainly means it wont come to the Xbox 360,ever!). So if you are a Game Dev already you may be 70% right in your theory. I own a ps3, i don't even have a 360 and the ps3 is by far the biggest disappointment of a console ever. Doesn't have an official headset, crappy playstation network, cant even access the XMB bar while playing a game, no good games out as of now and no good support from 3rd party developers and thats what sony needs, 3rd party because they cant make any good games of their own, besides GOW and hopefully games like LAIR are good. The ps3 should have included home,linux and all the proper hardware like headsets and controllers with vibration at launch and should have held on to their excluves by paying up that extra money.If things dont brighten up for sony soon than im going to buy a 360, especially if final fantasy and mgs4 go to 360. Sony got lazy because they made soooooooooooo much money from the ps2 and let up their creative ideas. As a company they need to think about the customers and think about what they would do if they desperate, not just get lazy because ps2 is still selling.
Kojima is or was Vice President of Konami for awhile then he made a company within Konami called Kojima Productions. So in a way yes and no this game could be ported. But most likely it will stay exclusive to the PS3.
chill out fan boy, the 360 was ***** at release, it had no good titles either, the best title out was call of duty 2 which wasn't even exclusive, at least ps3 has resistance, and halo 3 isn;t evn that great of a game anyways, it might sell more than killzone but it won;t be better, im sure of that.
