Heavenly Sword to get DLC if sales are good

Heavenly Sword - Image 1Heavenly Sword is a beautiful game, though everyone seems to think that it's a bit on the short side. Needless to say, Tameem Antoniades of Ninja Theory had to respond to that clamor for more content with a lure: that is, Heavenly Sword will get more content depending on the game's sales.

The remark came about during a presentation/ Q&A at a recent Warhawk tourney Warhawk tournament at 3Rooms. According to PS3 Fanboy, Antoniades responded to the criticism about the game's length by saying that the game would get downloadable content if it sold well enough to demand it.

We remember the days when gamers got a full game and a ton of neat extras right out of the box. Of course, that was only a few years ago, before the advent of downloadable content, so there's a certain paradox of sorts that needs to be addressed here.

If gamers read reviews nowadays, then they know that the game is a bit short on content, but worth a purchase. At the same time, this new information makes us think that the game devs are making the need for added content conditional rather than mandatory. This begs the question: Is the current content of the game enough to make it worth a purchase, or will it be the promise of future DLC that brings you to pick up the game?

Would be damn nice if they decided to do a multiplayer mode, and maybe some kind of arena survival mode.

» wuz fun but

Maybe they could add another 6 hours of gameplay and actually make it worth the money.

» seriously.

put aside the reviews - it is a great game, downloadable content or not.

The people who beat it in no time flat are the ones that must have rushed through it - I've taken my time on my first playthrough, getting all the glyphs for each level (or skill points) before moving onto the next chapter and, after two or three days of putting in time with the game, am only just beginning Chapter 5.

In all the interviews the developers compare it to a "blockbuster movie" - which are generally an hour and a half long. Understandably, the game should be much longer than that (and it is) but, to get that movie feel, the game shouldn't be 40 hours long.

I don't know. I actually like the length of the game, a lot. It is long enough to feel substantial but short enough that, in the future, it won't feel daunting to replay. Plus, when friends come over, they can playthrough it in an evening, like we would if we were watching films.

So, really. I don't think DLC is necessary... I would be happy if they did release some but that is not necessary, in my opinion, at all. Heavenly Sword should be savoured not rushed through.

I get more satisfaction of playing a shorter game, when i put variatiate it over a certain amount of time instead of just playing it all day.

» hummm.... some things could be done in hours..

If the devs could put costumes, specials stuff or EVEN another playable character for the "EX" game, then sure, I'd buy it. I mean, the value would increase (now it takes 6 hours, but with replay value it's at least 4 hours more, so 10 hours, now it's looking better, and if you need to finish the game more than once (like metal gear games with the dog tags and the ratings) you get SO MUCH value!

» dlc?

downloadable content? What are they going to give us, 10 more minutes of game play? I was waiting so long for this game, only to beat it in 4 hrs!!! That's not the only flaw, why couln't they put alot more weopens that are upgradable with the points earned! I Guess I was expecting it to be much more like god of war. It would of been awesome if they also had puzzle type scenerio's like g.o.w, where you actually had to think in between button mashing!! 1 thing though, the cinematics were absoulty awesome and a bit funny, but 4 years to make this game???? It could of been SOOO much better.

» Worth it if it was only 3 Chapters long

I have been a long-time gamer; not a hardcore gamer. So, I like to play, but not devote my life to a single game. While I can play well, I'm not the world-touring professional. Heavenly Sword so far has been a great trip, and I think is an amazing feast for any well-skilled gamer. Those who rip through games in a day or two ... well, I don't know.

But, in any case, the visuals are so amazing in this, and the way the camera moves is so unique in a game (I love the long-distance camera sweeps while you still get to move Nariko) that I can't think not wanting to replay this masterpiece again and again. I'm only on Chapter 2 right now, but if there was only 1 more Chapter left (and it appears there are several to go), I still would not feel ripped off.

Great game. I have only played a couple hours and it looks worth the money.

» just too short

i've been playin games all my life...although im not a hardcore gamer, i do enjoy playing a game that is on the edge of technology. this game is beautiful and gameplay is prefect...im not a fan of a 50 hour game but i literally beat this game in 1 day and to me that is just TOO SHORT. i think the dlc is a good idea to try to please people who already bought the game and good marketing for people who thinkin of buyin the game.

short game or not...everybody ps3 lover should own this game

» Been holding off due to personal finances

This gambit by Ninja Theory to make DLC conditional on game sales won't encourage me to by the game. I was planning on getting it anyway. I haven't because personal finances are tight (yes, tight enough to make $60 mean something). But, if they are counting the sales to make a decision on, I'd want my sale to add to the count. I also just recently got Lair and WarHawk, and barely have enough time to play them. So, I guess I'm gonna do some creative budgeting to get this game sooner rather than later, and just play the game when I get to it.

So, I guess to answer the original question; Yes, the current content (I'm looking at both quantity and quality, quality weighing more due to my lack to time) is sufficient to buy the game. But the promise of DLC based on sales is enough to get me to buy the game now instead of a month or two down the line once the price goes down.
