Heavenly Sword running without firmware updates (Redux)

Yesterday Ben02 tipped us off to a video his team's posted showing Heavenly Sword running on a PS3 without having to update its system firmware. Throwing caution into the wind - and with a grain of salt, if we might add - some of the commenters have been discussing the reliability of the video, saying that the skipping and jumps between clips in the video posed doubt over it being real.

To clear things up, Ben02 once again tipped us off to an updated video of the hack. This time, there aren't any cuts, and the two strips of tape tacked on the monitor to hide his system info are kept there all throughout. In this video, there's not much, as Quixand put it, "abrakadabra action!!!" that we could see. Check it out for yourself and you be the judge now:

While it's been previously reported that PS3 TIFF exploits have been found in the past, this video proves that the hacking community is still very much alive and just won't stand fazed by the mean black machine that is the PS3. Props for the effort, and once again, thanks to Ben02 for his kind tip off in our inbox!

I admit it could be real, but if you wanted to get technical about the authenticity, he should have kept the camera recording the ps3 and the tv screen at the same time. Notice at the 2:28 marker, he takes the camera off the screen and all you see is the ps3, who is to say he simply didn't have another ps3 running and connected to another input, and then he changes the channel to the second input when the tv is not in focus. Like I said before, it could be real, but it could also be a fake.

...but even if it`s not, it doesn`t mean homebrew is around the corner. I really hope not because it would ruin the PS3 much like it has the PSP.

ok don't get me wrong.. I love homebrew... but everyone are doing for the isos... and I really hate it because the developers are not doing that much with the games in the PSP... look everyone is saying with the new loading speed in the new PSP... "the games run better in the memory stick... the lauch a new PSP that with better loading time and... forget it...

# who needs exploits?Twenty-Se7en 2007-09-18 16:50
Why do we need these "exploits" and crap on a system that runs linux?

Take the time that you put into decrypting firmware to allow you to do this and that and put it somewhere useful - liking trying to unlock the RSX graphics card in the linux environment. The ps3 would be hardcore then!

PS3 titles only needs the fw they were compiled under to run. 1.90 is pretty new so it makes sense that HS was compiled under an older fw. You've not 'discovered' anything and I laugh at you.
