Heavenly Sword: God(dess) of War (in Persia) - Image 1 Heavenly Sword: God(dess) of War (in Persia) - Image 2

Yesterday, EuroGamer gave us a preview of their interview with Heavenly Sword co-founder Tameem Antoniades. While we were just told about how the game was 90% complete and could have multiplayer support, we now get to see the full transcript of that same interview - and my, what an informative sit-down it is.

Aside from talking about the combat in the game and how previously working on Kung Fu Chaos (Microsoft Xbox) contributed to Heavenly Sword, one of the more interesting points in the interview was when they touched on how the title stacked up to similar games (and movies) of the somewhat same genre. When suggested by EuroGamer that the game looks like a "Prince of Persia meets God of War," the answer from Antoniades was definitely something we didn't expect:

If you really want a small list of influences and inspirations, how about this: the poetic beauty of ICO, the dynamic action of Panzer Dragoon Orta, the extreme style of Devil May Cry, the depth of combat of Virtua Fighter, the visual emotion of "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", the 'wire-fu' style of Yuen Woo Ping, the over-the-top action of "Kung Fu Hustle", the madness of "Versus" and the scale of "Lord of the Rings".

What. A. Mouthful. That's indeed a lot of "X meets Y" comparisons, but despite it all, hey!, it works and helps us put the game in its place among all the other titles under the Action-Adventure umbrella. But in the end, Antoniades says that he'd prefer the game to be given its own merit. Don't be comparing apples and oranges, basically. Heavenly Sword is a wholly new experience as compared to other video games or movies.

Cool beans. So, to make everyone happy, let's go for a compromise: it's actually Heavenly Sword: God(dess) of War (in Persia). Ha, we crack ourselves up sometimes.

who wouldn't want to be a combo of God of War and Prince of Persia? Those are two of the greatest action adventure games EVER! SERIOUSLY!

The way they're referencing those specific games and movies, this game sounds too good to be true.

I really hope what they're flaunting is what we get.

# more like God of warGuest 2007-05-17 20:05
from what I saw, it's a kind of god of war (with the same kind of weapons, super heroe main character, same kind of moves, same "push this button FAST while evrything move to kill a boss or something") with new stuff like HUDGE battle (when he said LOTR), guns, another kind of story, ps3 graphics...

This said, I'm prett sure that the game will be great, but nothing compared to God of War 2, BUT it will be way better than god of war 1 was, so I suppose it'll be a hell of a good start for those devs. I hope they'll make more than one since practice makes perfect (gow1 was great, gow2 was awesome, I wonder how gow3 will be, lol).

Also, this game COULD be better than gow2 since it will pop way after, so the devs can update their things if they see something good, but I'm pretty sure the story won't be as good, or the lenght, the difficulty or the value. Anyway, we'll see when the game will be at our home since DAH, I'll buy it! lol

Yes, this is the real little lad from the infamous berries and cream starburst commercial. When I was a little lad, and I wanted berries and cream, mummy used to make me do the berries and cream dance. Now, mummy's gone. Nevertheless, I still do the berries and cream dance whenever I hear or see berries and cream starbursts. So, as a special treat on this comment, I will now do the dance for all of you! You look lovely!

"Berries and cream, berries and cream, I'm a little lad who loves berrriiieess aanndd cccrrrreeeaaamm !"
