A lot of fanboys have been screaming about the dichotomy of the market today. The end all and be all of the argument is that they believe that the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 are as different as night and day. The head of Sega Racing Studio, Guy Wilday, recently spoke about both consoles in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. He discussed both consoles from a developer's standpoint and noted that while there are differences, the end result is that there is very little difference in the output of both consoles.
First, he pointed out the strengths and difficulties in dealing with the PlayStation 3. "Sony always created very technically innovative hardware and always have," said Wilday. "PlayStation 3 is no different in that respect." According to Wilday, this made it a bit difficult to develop games for the console, especially from the get-go.
The flip-side of very innovative hardware is that it takes you a while to get up to speed with it. The learning curve is steeper in that you have to get into it and understand exactly what the benefits are, and understand exactly how to do certain things to get the most out of the platform.
Wilday noted that development is simpler on Microsoft's Xbox 360. The main reason for this is the fact that the development tools and support were already refined. In the end, it became a trade-off between innovating and pushing the boundaries, or sticking with the tried and tested development tools and methods. In lieu of all of this, he said something that some of the more rabid fanboys should note.
We've sat them side by side and you're really hard-pushed to tell the difference. I think that's a testament to where you are with both platforms. The learning curve with PlayStation 3 is steeper, but once you're there the opportunities are very exciting.
That said, if there are really very few notable differences on the output of a game on both consoles, why should we care if someone's playing a game on the PS3 or Xbox 360? As long as we're having a great experience on our consoles, then that's all that matters, right?

Not to fanboys. What matters to fanboys are their ego's in being able to proudly proclaim that what they spent their hard earned money on is better than what someone they don't even know spent their hard earned money on.
We have to remember, fanboys make no sense, are quite a bit denser than most, contain no logic or reasoning, and are usually quite a bit dumber.
Me? I don't like making fun of consoles. I prefer to make fun of people making fun of consoles. It makes my e-peen bigger.
I think the power of the consoles is actually about equal. They have small advantages either way that can be exploited, but in general, there is no better console.
Gamespot did another graphics comparison between the PS3 and XBOX 360 and it was much closer this time. Many of the games were just slightly better on the 360, but it was so close it was very hard to tell.
I love my XBOX, but the PS3 just doesn't appeal to me. It may someday, but not now. It doesn't offer anything I can't already do between my PC and XBOX. I routinely bash it, but it's all in good fun.
I just act like a fanboy to piss off real fanboys. It entertains me. I really like to get into the blu ray HD-DVD debate. It's like some kind of religious discussion or something. People act like they're ready to kill me. I love it. Who the hell cares? Oh yeah, fanboys.
I've been coming to this site and just recently started commenting this week. Some would say I'm a Sony fanboy.. I own a Wii and PS3.. but I have played Xbox 360.. and basically borrowed it for a week from my friend(Beat Gears of War and tested everything).
I have to say the expiriance is awesome, everything they offer is great, and I'll admit they do have more games right now.. but I guess I just was never was an XBox guy.. never got into Halo or anything XBox offered, and it transfered to this console war. But still.. I'm not blind to notice all that XBox does right.. I guess I'm one of the proponents that "Hey.. I'm sure PS3 will do that someday anyways.. I'll wait for Lair and some firmware updates"
I just want good games... and honestly I just want to freakin play Manhunt 2 sometime this century... +/
Oh and the reason my subject was 'Yeah man' was because I posted a few time in the recent Blu Ray, HD-DVD articles... Those people get REALLY defenseive when you mention ANYTHING to the effect of "Well hey guy.. the format wars not over yet.. anything can happen". I imagine you sitting there laughing cause I'm assuming you probobly could care less which HD movie format wins.. lmao.

How in the world is the PS3 launch lineup any better than the 360s? 80% of the launch games for the ps3 were old 360 games that 360 owners had been playing for months prior to that. All the ps3 had was a generic shooter (RFoM) and Motorstorm (actually a cool game).
The 360 on the other hand had a fair lineup, and far better than what the ps3 offered. COD2, Condemned, PDZ, PGR4, THAW, all quite good for being launch games.

So let's see here, the PS3 is better because its launch games, released in late 2006, (and the good ones didn't even come till early 07) look better than the 360's launch games, which were released a year earlier or more?
I'm not going to deny that the PS3 is a slightly more powerful system than the 360 if you're getting the full benefit of the Cell, but what you said is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. lmxloco's comment couldn't be more right, fanboys don't even know what logic and reasoning are.

I think this quote shows the PS3's potential. Both consoles will be way better by Fall 2008 but after that, Im thinkin the ps3 will be the only one continuing to get better. Jus think about it like this: the consoles look similar right now, according to this guy, but he specifically mentions the opportunities with the ps3. the 360 will get better too but i dont think as good as the ps3

i just bought a console so all games to me are unplayed and new!!! not all xbox owners has had their consoles for a long time already anyway... it would be the same if i was a new 360 owner instead of a new ps3 owner.
case for example when i bought my PS3 i only had to wait 2 to 3 weeks for oblivion to become available... now what if i didn't buy a PS3 on that date and bought a 360 instead (meaning i'm a new XBox owner) and i wanted to play Oblivion or Marvel Ultimate Alliance on my new 360 console... it would be the same!!!
the ps3 is not as old as the 360 so as a ps3 owner i don't really care if you've played that game before me, i just got my console now... and it would be the same if i got a 360 now instead of a ps3...

Anyway, Right now, in terms of total system graphical output. Developers have done 75% of what x360 can do and only 45% of what ps3 can do. So, give it time. Ps3 will surpass x360 in terms of graphix. By the time that happens..
