We shared with you yesterday our quick impressions of the demo-only Gran Turismo HD and we're pretty sure that made you even more willing about downloading it (albeit the PlayStation Network, for some reasons, wouldn't allow you to). Since we are very big advocates of racing games, if we may reveal, we want to make sure that everyone who has a PS3 will be playing Gran Turismo before the day ends. If the review didn't quite do it for you maybe the screenshots will finally do!

On a more personal note, we really felt sad when developer Polyphony Digital decided not to have a full, boxed title. It was even sadder when creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced it himself early this month. We guess we will never know for certain what really happened behind their closed doors...

Oh heck! These are all water under the bridge now. And besides, Gran Turismo 5 will soon be careening to our PS3 units anyway. We guess we will just have to enjoy this rather fascinating demo.

i got it on the 23rd i think, and i wasnt impressed ...... i got a 32' sammy HDtv using HDMI, and it didnt look that great to me..... but thats just my opinion. I just find it hard to understand why polyphony digital takes so long to develope a game. Like the PSP version never came out. WTF?

PS3 is a Supercomputer that allow you to install Linux such as FC5 and YDL. Then you can *cough* Demo, Saved Game and even BD on HDD then transfer to PC!

# Supercomputer, Hah!Guest 2006-12-25 02:27
Yes it's a super computer that has less than 200MB of available ram for it's OS. Please cut the bullcrap, I can run a faster linux OS on a 5 year old computer.

Sony fans believe the darndest things.

The PS3 runs in the asme class as a High End spple G4 or a low end G5.

Read benchmarks before you start to say things you know nothing about. BTW my web server runs faster on the PS3 then on a 2.0GHZ intel PC. So much for a 5 year old computer running faster.

# Downloading... for 2 days now...Guest 2006-12-25 06:22
I have been trying to get the game downloaded for 2 straight days. I can't believe it took that long. It's bad for SONY when lots of people can't download.

I constantly check and find that there "error when downloading..." all the freaking time.

It is now at 60%. hopefully, it will finish.

I want to see it for myself how good the game is at 1080i.

Does it even do 1080p?

Until then

Start off by telling me your impressions of GT HD (keep it real and unbiased)

# why?Guest 2006-12-25 08:40
The graphics are amazing (if you have HDMI cable and at least 1080i tv), The cars are really detailed and all handle differently. GT has always been known for it's realizm in the lineup, they actually give the cars their specs and get race driver's to test em.....it is simply as if you are driving the skyline in real life..., replays are amazing, when I show it to my friends they think its a tv commercial lol, plus there will be Tekken and Metal Gear....

"The PS3 runs in the asme class as a High End spple G4 or a low end G5."

When you say benchmarks, what are the benchmarks measuring exactly? Floating-point performance, application performance, general performance? Do you have any links?

Yes the PS3 should offer excellent performance for floating-point dependant applications (such as movie/mp3 encoding), but what about it's performance as a linux computer in general. I'm sorry but I have to agree with Devise here. I'm not sure about 5 years (I don't have the figures to compare), but just the same I want today's performance, not the performance of an older PC with little memory.

Going back to the original post, it's laughable that some still buy into the marketing hype that the PS3 is a super computer.

I think if people stopped posting in the comments section altogether, or if it was removed, QJ.NET itself would be a more mature, respectable place for news. It's people like you guys that ***** it up for the rest of us by arguing about retarded ***** all day and trying to one-up each other. You know, the internet is good for things other than arguing with anonymous people, even if it is to back up the hype on your precious system.

Yes, I own a PS3, yes I waited in line for it, yes I have GT:HD, and it's half the reason I bought this console. I'm happy, are you?

Besides, no-one is forcing you to read this, you could easily ignore all the comments sections and the forums and just read the news.

So get off your high horse and stop being such a hypocrite.

Idiots who don't fully understand how and what Memory is used for or that when it is in fact just as fast as the CPU itself under the Flex I.O., you just plain don't need all the Ram! "Cell BDE" is a Streaming set of 8 parallel processors all capable operating independently. But also aware of each other as no matter even if separated by distance. They are like they're connected. It's the liveing Cell, man!

So when Sony completes some of the March updates you will see more of the abilites of Cell come alive!

And all you Xbots don't waste your time trying to convince us that Sony and the PS3 suck! Because if we're lucky enough to have one in our posession we KNOW the TRUTH first hand! We get to handle, touch, and sense it's power right in front of our faces. And we during our launch are not having near the problems that the people with X360's went through at their launch.

No flaming power cord recalls, no Black Screens of Death, no complete lockups, no heat so bad you can cook eggs and bacon on it. No power brick, you could kill a man with. No green leftover crap from the 60's. No Microcrap Butterflys. But more exclusives than any other nexgen consoles, More games than any family of consoles for more generations. Now PS3 is on the virge of doing the unheard of and undreamed of run for a 3Peat. That with according to a recent poll, over 60% of all PS2 owners plan on eventually upgrading to the PS3. If this is so, then you can count on 65 million sold from their ranks alone.

Wonder why sales of X360 fell through the floor and will never be the same. Because they have competition and no matter how many reviewers and virial ads Microsoft pays for, they are dead. They were dead the moment they made X360 a closed format. They even deader when they decided to get into the Hardware business, without owning any of their own factories. It's why the reality is that their little game excursion is getting investors pissed off and costing them into the Billions of dollars with no picture of a clear profit way b3yond the horizon.

So in comparison to X360, PS3 really shows it's heretage in a better way. Especially in light of the Pentagon's Cell BDE IBM Super Computer or the Cell BDE Super Computer's each and every "Future Force Warrior" will have on his back!

So yes you Xbots will someday see the light that is the Cell BDE in the Sony PS3!

I think the graphics looks good, but the game play sucks. Just like gran turismo 4, I gave that game away and kept my gt3 because it was more fun to play. 1080p is great and all and cool, but the car looks like it's going 10mph no matter what speed it is. When the odometer says 80mph I want the sensation that it's going 80mph. When the car looks like it's going 10mph and it controls like it's going 80mph it just throws you off. I hope they "speed" up the action, by that I mean the perceivable speed. I've driven a real car at 80mph before, and it does not look the same as going 80mph in GT4 or GT4 HD. Not that it did in gt3 and 2 but at least it was more fun to play with despite the low res graphics.

# Why a gran turismo demo?Guest 2006-12-26 01:56
The answer is simple. Polyphony digital didn't want to invest in a full retail exclusive game on a system that might not last 3 years. As have most developers who were going to make exclusive games for the PS3. If they don't think they'll get the sales they're looking for, they are either going multiplatform, cancelled, or turned into a demo. I think that survey you're quoting (with no link of course) showing 60 percent of PS2 owners plan on getting a PS3 was taken before everybody realized how overhyped it really was.

WTF, you must own a sorry car in real life, I own a Benz and a Honda Civic, when I drive 80 miles an hour it really does feel like I am driving 30 or 40 miles an hour. The graphics are tight and who ever said that Polyphony is not developing a full game for the PS3 because it install base is smoking crack, Sony owns a huge chunk of the company, kind of like M$ and Bungie.

i couldnt agree more. i own a dodge charger daytona edition and wen i go 120 it barely feels like im speeding. and at 80 ur just slowing cruisin. u must own a old cavalier or berretta or something that has as much pickup as my grandmother.

For all of you PS3 Naysayers, here is a comparison between GT HD on the PS3 (Realtime) and real life. have not seen anything that looks like this on the year old 360. I am not knocking the 360 but dont knock the PS3 because it is defenitely a powerhouse, and only about 2 months old.

# There is 1.1 GTHD in PlayStation StoreGuest 2006-12-26 17:16
Just to let you guys know Polyphony put a new version of GTHD in the Store. I don't know the differences.

I mandaged to download my version on the 24th here in Japan. Took me almost an hour to download because of other eager people downloading too. Afterwards the new download took only a few minutes.

The game was ok, but it's not that good looking. Cars are detailed, but there is still a lot of work to do for the handling of the cars and the scenery. It looks very much a port from the GT4 that has been stated before, but with added graphics. Only one track is not that good, so you get bored pretty quick. Nice feature is that you can get better and faster cars that you can try and break records done by other GTHD players. The feeling of speed is not that good on the first car, but gets immediately better with the newer cars. Also removing the driving aids makes the playing and feeling of the car much better. I wish Polyphony will add the damage to cars, because after Motor Storm´s carnage to vehicles you really crave for some feedback in the form of bent metal in other car games.

The only way is up from this demo.

# And just some more opinionsGuest 2006-12-26 17:26
Just to add to the conversation about why Polyphony has _propably_ made the GTHD in to a demo or a "concept". I think they saw that the to be finished game would not be good enough to justify a new GT version or not up to gamers standards. The other reason is propably that there are not enough PS3 owners at the moment so that you get enough money back from the game, but in time of GT5 there will be a lot that will buy the game. More profit.

PS3 is not going anywhere in three years. Already Resistance and Motorstorm proves that there is power under the hood of this console. Especially 2007 will be a good year in console gaming for everyone just by looking at the "to be released" games list. There is a bunch of great games coming for the PS3, Wii and Xbox360. From the PS3 list, I can't wait for Lair, Heavenly sword and others... Finally all of the three systems are out and the games can only get better and better. Good times ahead fellow gamers, good times ahead.

# still not impressGuest 2006-12-27 20:44
Natas and Frazier, you two are such numbnuts. I don't care if your car rides like silk and it doesn't feel like it's speeding. The fact is when you are going 80mph you ARE going 80mph in real life and object passes you by at 80mph despite you not feeling like it's going 80mph. I'm talking about the game GT4HD here. I'm saying that when I go 80mph in the game, objects in the game aren't passing by me at 80mph like in real life. Thefore, the game does not have a "sense" of speed. I'm not saying the PS3 is slow here. I have a PS3 and I played the demo. If you ps3 fanboy stop worshipping the ps3 so much maybe you can be objective about this demo. The demo does not do the ps3 justice and I wouldn't buy the game if it came out like that.

It use to be people rely on word of mouth and reviews to help them decide which games to buy, but now we can just download the demo. Games will live and die by the demo. GT4HD wouldn't have made it. I bought GT2 and GT3 and I enjoyed it, but GT4 was a disappointment. Good graphics, but slow. I'm saying the same thing about GT4HD, slow. I'll be testing GT5 when it comes out, and if it suck I just won't buy it.
