GTA IV to have a New York City setting? |

Gaming site CVG managed to sneak in one of the gazillion online forums (it didn't say which forum specifically) and learned something juicy about up and coming video game Grand Theft Auto IV (360 and PS3). According to the site, GTA IV is set in the city that never sleeps - New York City. (Yes, we know Liberty City is based on New York City...) Furthermore, CVG added that the insider information came from someone involved in the game's soundtrack who will come up with NYC-themed music.
That part sounds interesting as we can imagine underground rock mixed with, what, Broadway. Anyway, as always, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar are neither confirming nor denying this little detail.
Grand Theft Auto IV is expected to hit retail stores in October of this year. The first ever trailer for the game will be available on March 29. Maybe we can get some more clues once the game trailer comes out.

GTA 3 anyone? Liberty City is New York... It is common knowledge, so either they make it in LC again or they make another city based on the same... which would be incredibly lame. FYI; New York = Liberty City Miami = Vice City San Francisco = San Fierro Las Vegas = Las Venturas Los Angeles = Los Santos
i've been trying to tell game sites this for a while. if its in the old story, its gunna be liberty city if it is new york styled.
we already have GTAIII and Liberty City Stories (although both are good). They should make it like another city like Washington DC or Detroit or Chicago. P.S. also i wonder if rockstar will make a san andreas stories. although since vice city stories is already packed in the umd it seems unlikely.

They Mention Carser City many times in GTA VC. Maybe that's the next one.

Yeah yeah yeah, we all know that Liberty city was NY, But cmon, what a crappy NYC that was. Not to mention just the names sucked, but it was small and did not resemble NYC in the smallest way. So i think if they did a New GTA with NYC with the POWER of the new consoles, they can have all the surrounding burroughs, some of upstate, to serve as the woods area, and you can have all the mafia theme reinstated. Also if they fit all that info on the PS2 disc in los santos, then they have 50 gigs, where they can have Vice city, los santos and a redone NYC.

because vegas was already done. Honestly i really doubt this. We'll find out in 16 days but i still strongly believe it will be london. it's the only city of the original games that has not been done yet. However, if it is NYC, but not based on NYC but the city itself it wouldn't be too bad. But for the love of god not liberty city again. I can say right now it's not going to be the following: DC Detroit Chicago Carser City Mexico City The most likely cities as we've always known was London, Toronto, Tokyo or a possible NYC remake. Though London has always been the most popular. And even if this soundtrack bit is true. It could just be that a section of the game is in NYC and the majority of it is in another area. Like in San Andreas you go back to Liberty City for one mission.

Think about it.. Youve had a city (Liberty city), a city 3 times the size (Vice City), a state with 3 cities (San Andreas), so whats three times larger? 3 states... And where would be the perfect spot for that? The east coast of Australia (Melbourne, New Castle, Sydney, Brisbane, Goldcoast)....

In the case of GTAIV, which is also on 360 here, pay attention, they need to fit it on a DVD9, aka no 50GB of data (which wouldn't happen anyway) 2. Game development costs are already too high, as are game prices, and most games are around 7GB. But seven times that? Not gonna happen, ever, unless games really do become $100 like Kutaragi joked
San Andreas was easily the worst of the last three GTAs, the cities may have been big but weren't nearly as interesting as Vice City or Liberty City
I think that they should do it in Mexico City since the whole city is really *****ed up. It has worst pollution, a lot of traffic, more violent gangs, most kidnappings, thefts, murders, ghettos, drugs, corrupt cops and etc. then another other city probably known to earth. You can get mugged the very first minute your there, yes its that bad! Even the residents of Mexico City are afraid to live there sometimes cause its that bad. Trust me, if they should do one a new city, it should be Mexico City.

San andreas was the worst of the GTA's. although it was massive, it wa alll too "ghetto" and u just couldnt get into the story because he was a criminal and yet he loved his family so much, it was just stupid. The city's just had no personaility, and because of the wide space, it just wansnt eploited enough to be fun. lerning the layout of vice city was interesting, lerning the layout of los santos is just pointless

I think that NJ would make a great setting since we have so many bad teriitorys here in south and north jersey such as... Camden county-90%african american vineland-my hometown-puerto rican and white 50-50 millville-African american bridgeton-Mexican deptford-Arabic and indian each section is pretty much populated by a race as i mentioned above
Its actually very possible to add 7 times the area, without adding 7 times the data. The stuctures and environemnts (Ie wireframes) are quite small. Music and textures are the real space hogs, Well and FMV, but GTA doesnt need FMV. It could easily fit on a DVD9, they just have to be more creative with textures.

Europe and Canada are great places to live but for a game...If you want an average game then set them there. There will be some cool different things that ones set in america can't offer but it won't be worth it. It's too boring everywhere else. KEEP IT IN AMERICA!

ight look i no i dont hav an account on here or anything but there has been a rumor going around the northeast part of the country of the game taking place here including 5 cities having a PS3 engine instead of PS2 & able 2 put more then 3 cities in 1 game. Liberty City is everybody's favorite city not neccesarily having the best games of the series but is the GTA city that everybody knows and loves. Liberty City will return in this game from what I hear however more will be added. Carcer City is unlikely to be Cleveland becuase even though on a map New York and Cleveland aren't far away it is about 7 hrs driving time. Carcer City is actucally most likely a copy of Philadelphia. The tunnel in Liberty City stories that reads upstate is an obvious copy of upstate new york which in the game will probably lead to upstate new york equivalent to the rural areas of san andreas and will also lead 2 a city that is inspired from Boston. Even though Philadelphia is south of nyc there is a road that wraps around the mountains that were closed off in GTA heading out past the water on the western side of shoreside vale which is thought to be an ocean but will actucally be a copy of new york harbor and will hav roads leading south including a copy of the new jersey turnpike. the turnpike in real life is inspired by famous ppl from new jersey for the name of its rest stops. However in the game they may be named off of famous ppl in the GTA series Ex. Tommy Vercetti rest stop, Miles O'Donovan rest stop and other ppl that we find out r actucally form the state which is inspied from new jersey. the liberty city harbor which is based on new york harbor will include a staue of liberty look alike which is father out on the water and is the reason why it counldn't be seen in GTA III or liberty city stories. Also a play on Ellis Island will be near the statue. The reason rockstar is adding more nyc look alikes 2 liberty city is becuase vice city copies miami los santos los angeles san fierro san francisco las venturas las vegas but however even though liberty city is based loosely on nyc it does not copy the real life inspiration of the cities as much as the other cities in the GTA world so rockstar will try 2 make it more clear that liberty city is clearly suppoused 2 be new york and trying 2 get rid of the specualtion that liberty city is an nyc/ chicago mix and trying 2 make it more of juss NYC. South of Philadelphia cities that r plays on baltimore and washington D.C. will also be included in the new installement of the GTA series. Also included is a highway representing the beltway in d.c. Portland Harbor which is suppoused 2 be the brooklyn docks and the other major docks such as the south philly docks and the baltimore docks/marina will all be run by the mafia in the game in which u work 4 in GTA IV and will all be major ports for drug trafficking. This will lead to massive mafia wars with strong italian presence in nyc boston and philadelphia and also fighting wit plays on the bloods and crips which will be featured in liberty city the plays on philly d.c. and baltimore and will lead 2 massive wars between the families of liberty sindacco, forelli, and leone the mobs of philly and boston and the blacks of all cities except boston because boston has lik 3 black ppl in it's entire area.
