Grand Theft Auto IV - Image 1The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) has issued an 18+ rating on Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV set for release sometime this year on the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. The development did not come as a surprise to many who have followed the series since its birth on the original PlayStation.

According to the UK PlayStation site, Grand Theft Auto IV was given the restrictive rating due to profanity in the game script and violence in the way it is played. Similar ratings were given to other Grand Theft Auto series members by American ratings board ESRB.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has been under heavy scrutiny from its critics for about a decade now. The sandbox-style play allows users to do crimes in a virtual city which gives players a sense of freedom not found in other  titles. This Rockstar Games signature way of play has earned it both accolades and lawsuits from diverse sectors with varying viewpoints.

I would love to see jack thompson stop thats not a good idea. It would actually promote what he's saying about the game.

phew

The only thing stopping this from being a killer game, was if its rating was turned down.
