GT 5: Prologue net code came in with PS3 firmware 2.17? - Image 1As all of you will remember, Sony rolled out firmware 2.17 for the PlayStation 3 just a couple of days ago. Even until now, however, a changelog for English-speaking gamers has yet to be revealed.

That leaves the firmware update to a lot of speculations including this one that concerns PS3 exclusive Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. According to our source, a net code for the said Polyphony Digital racing game came in with the system update.

Unfortunately, no one knows what this code is for or whether an explanation or probably a complimentary code will be included on the game's disc.

Bottom line is, there's no available detail as of yet regarding this. GT 5: Prologue will be released across Europe on March 28 while gamers in the U.S. will be able to get it on April 17.

We guess all will be explained before those dates so keep checking back here at QJ.NET for more updates.

» Does anybody know?

Does every game have code that comes with system firmware? It seems odd that a system update would offer support for a particular game. I just assumed game-makers would create games around the existing system firmware.

Is this just because of the close relationship between PD and Sony or is this a common thing?

» uhh

There are many more games coming out than firmwares so that debunks your theory. It could be because Sony and PD are so close that Sony is willing to implement ideas for the service on PD's request.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

That debunks what theory? He asked a question.

To answer his question, no, the games to not require changes to the firmware. What can happen is a changed firmware can cause problems for a game then an update or fix could be made for that game.

In this case, this sounds like complete garbage!

"....to our source, a net code for the said...."

Net code? That's not real terminology.

"probably a complimentary code will be included on the game's disc."

That doesn't remotly make any sense. What the heck would make it "complimentary"?

» I suppose japanese had bugs at first

Bugs with the PSN. So they corrected it, it's surely just that. Nothing important.
